Taking a deep breath, Brian Carter finally resisted the immense temptation and turned his head away.
“All right, I believe you. Hurry up and put your clothes on.” In fact, there was another wicked voice in Brian Carter’s heart calling out, “Lolis have three virtues: clear voice, gentle body, easy to push down…”
“Request of master can be fulfilled.”
Lindsay Brooks dressed quickly as well. When the evil urge in Brian Carter’s heart drove him to turn his head back, hoping to sneak another glance at the endless spring scenery before she finished dressing, she had already restored her previous attire and posture.
A sweet, almost dangerously tempting smile still hung on Lindsay Brooks’s face as she spoke softly in her unchanging, gentle tone, “There is one minute and fifteen seconds left before forced entry into the first trial scene of the Immortal Program. For your safety, master, please enter the first trial scene quickly.”
“What happens if I don’t go in?” Brian Carter’s gaze wandered over the harsh desert environment ahead, and he shrugged noncommittally.
“The system will use methods such as electric shocks, burning, lasers, ion blasts, gravity strikes, and other stimuli to forcibly make the master enter, based on the master’s physical strength and endurance limits.”
Lindsay Brooks’s meticulous answer made Brian Carter involuntarily suck in a cold breath. Such a brutal system setting—who’s the master here, really!
“There are fifty-six seconds left before forced entry into the first trial scene of the Immortal Program…”
Brian Carter looked around, but Lindsay Brooks’s reminder chilled his heart again. With a bitter face, he said, “At least tell me what kind of trial this is!”
“Due to insufficient time, it is impossible to explain clearly to the master. After entering the first trial scene, the system program will provide an answer. There are thirty-seven seconds left before forced entry into the first trial scene of the Immortal Program…”
“Will you go in with me?” Brian Carter looked at Lindsay Brooks with a glimmer of hope, thinking to himself, if he could have a companion to enter this unknown and dangerous place—especially an intelligent being who recognized him as master—it would surely save him a lot of trouble.
“No.”
Lindsay Brooks decisively shattered Brian Carter’s fantasy, then dropped another bombshell that almost made Brian Carter turn and run, “Only after the master dies will Lindsay Brooks be authorized by the system to enter the trial space to resurrect the master, and must leave the trial scene before the master is revived. Unless the master achieves a 70% completion rate in the tasks of the three major trial scenes, Lindsay Brooks will not be permitted by the system to accompany the master into the final two ultimate trial scenes of the Immortal Program.”
“I’m going to die…”
Brian Carter jumped anxiously and said, “Didn’t you say before that this space was created based on my sea of consciousness? How could I die in my own consciousness space?”
“Master may have misunderstood. In a certain sense, this space is already infinitely close to the existence of a parallel universe, a brand-new space artificially created by a twelfth-level civilization empire, established after the Immortal Program was activated. It is not your consciousness space… At the same time, I must inform the master of one thing: the very purpose of the Immortal Program is to force out the ultimate potential of living beings through harsh environments and powerful opponents, and the best way to achieve this is—death…”
It was clear that Lindsay Brooks had more to say, but before Brian Carter could finish listening, more than a dozen electric snakes, each about as thick as a thumb, descended from the sky and struck him with unerring accuracy. The powerful current instantly charred Brian Carter’s hair and even cracked his skin in several places. The excruciating pain made Brian Carter let out a wailing scream like a ghost, and then he felt another surge of electricity enter his back, blasting him off his feet with irresistible force and sending him headfirst into the system-generated first trial scene—the Death Black Desert.
Chapter Six: Death Black Desert
“Trial mode fully activated… Trial task completion rate 0%… First trial scene is a 100% simulation of the Alpha Star System’s biological forbidden zone: Death Black Desert. Trial objectives—physical evolution, mental power enhancement…”
With the mechanical system voice ringing in his ears, Brian Carter gradually regained consciousness from the agony of the electric shock. He got up, only to have one foot sink into knee-deep gray-black sand. After quickly checking himself from head to toe, Brian Carter was shocked to find that all the injuries from the electric shock had completely disappeared, leaving only the unpleasant memory of extreme pain in his heart.
“…All of this is real.”
Brian Carter finally realized the dire situation he was in. He struggled to pull his leg out of the sand, only to be shocked that even this slight movement had drained him of so much strength. Gasping for breath, Brian Carter realized that the gravity here was far beyond Earth’s normal gravity. Although he couldn’t determine the exact gravity coefficient of this desert, he could roughly estimate that it was at least more than twice normal gravity.
Flopping down on the ground, Brian Carter couldn’t help but point at the sky and curse, “Dragging me to this godforsaken place without even telling me how to get out… Lindsay Brooks… get out here… Lindsay Brooks…”
