It was exactly Charles Foster, Michael Thompson, and Robert Thompson, the three of them.
The three lounged lazily at the entrance of the village, basking in the sun. When they saw Henry Clark, their gazes swept up and down over him.
Henry Clark ignored them and went straight to the bamboo grove to practice his boxing.
“Henry Clark, that kid, has actually grown so strong. Just a few months ago, he was still a sickly weakling.”
Said Michael Thompson.
“His father, William Clark, is an old hunter, goes into the mountains hunting every day, surely brings back game. This kid must have eaten plenty of meat, otherwise how could he have grown so fast? Damn it, we don’t even get to eat meat, it’s so unfair. Brother Feng, how about…”
Robert Thompson looked at Charles Foster, hinting at something.
Charles Foster licked his lips and said, “Michael Thompson, go keep an eye near William Clark’s house. Once William Clark and his wife go out to work, sneak in and see if there’s any meat.”
“Alright, leave it to me.”
Michael Thompson said excitedly.
Chapter 7: Breaking the Limit
Henry Clark was practicing boxing in the bamboo grove when he suddenly heard a commotion coming from the village.
“That sounds like mother’s voice.”
Henry Clark’s expression changed slightly, and he stopped.
This bamboo grove was already close to Kaoshan Village, not far away, and now that Henry Clark was close to breaking his limit, his energy and blood were overflowing, his senses sharp. Amid the noise, he heard Olivia Smith’s voice.
Henry Clark dared not delay and hurried back at once.
“Yan, something’s wrong! Your father is about to fight with Charles Foster and the others.”
As soon as he entered the village entrance, an old lady saw Henry Clark and said anxiously.
“Charles Foster…”
Henry Clark’s heart tightened.
Charles Foster was also overflowing with energy and blood, close to breaking his limit, his strength far beyond ordinary people. William Clark was skilled in archery and had once been a second-level martial artist; his body had been tempered by energy and blood, making him stronger than most. But in a real fight, he might not be a match for Charles Foster.
Moreover, Charles Foster had two helpers.
Henry Clark quickened his pace and soon arrived home.
He saw that a crowd of villagers had already gathered around his house to watch the commotion, and William Clark and Olivia Smith were facing off against Charles Foster, Robert Thompson, and Michael Thompson.
“William Clark, I told you, I’m only taking half the meat. Don’t refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit.”
Charles Foster gripped a hatchet, his face fierce, like a vicious wolf.
“No way. That meat was hunted with our own lives on the line. Don’t even think about taking it.”
Said William Clark.
“Hmph, we’re all villagers of Kaoshan Village. Why do you get to eat meat every day while we can only eat coarse grains and wild vegetables?” Michael Thompson shouted.
“If you want to eat, you can go hunting yourselves.”
Said William Clark.
“William Clark, do you think you catch game all by yourself? If it weren’t for us protecting Kaoshan Village, the place would have been destroyed by bandits and wild beasts long ago, and you wouldn’t have a safe place to hunt. So, the game you catch should be shared for everyone to enjoy.”
Charles Foster said coldly.
Such shameless words almost made Henry Clark laugh in anger.
He pushed through the crowd to the front of the house, drew his bow, and aimed at Charles Foster and the others.
Michael Thompson held a hoe, Robert Thompson gripped a carrying pole. Seeing Henry Clark aiming at them, they grew nervous.
But Charles Foster’s expression didn’t change. He held the hatchet across his body and said, “Henry Clark, you want to make a move? Go ahead and try.”
In the end, Henry Clark did not act.
There were three of them. If he missed with his first shot, William Clark might be fine, but Olivia Smith would surely be in danger. If she were struck by a hatchet or hoe, the consequences would be unbearable.
Besides, even if he could hit, killing someone in front of so many witnesses would likely bring trouble from the Liu clan.
Weighing the pros and cons, Henry Clark made his decision.
“Dad, give it to them,” Henry Clark said.
“Yan, but you…”
William Clark was unwilling. That meat was essential for Henry Clark’s training.
But looking at Olivia Smith beside him, he sighed inwardly. If a fight broke out, he’d have trouble protecting even himself, let alone Olivia Smith.
“Dad, it’s fine. Give it to them.”
Henry Clark’s gaze was resolute.
“Alright, fine.” William Clark finally gave in.
“Hahaha, William Clark, your son knows what’s best.”
Charles Foster laughed triumphantly and ordered Robert Thompson and Michael Thompson to carry away the wild boar meat.
The two of them took away over a hundred jin, then the three left smugly.
The surrounding villagers, seeing how much wild boar meat William Clark’s family had, all had red eyes.
“You want some too?”
Henry Clark stood with his bow, and William Clark stood beside him with his hunting bow.
The villagers shrank back. They didn’t have the strength of Charles Foster and the others. Though greedy, they didn’t dare to rob, and eventually dispersed.
Afterwards, Henry Clark learned the whole story from William Clark and Olivia Smith.
It turned out that today, William Clark and his wife had come home early for some reason, only to catch Charles Foster and the other two stealing wild boar meat. They caught them red-handed.
In the heat of the moment, William Clark grabbed his hunting bow, while Charles Foster and the others picked up hatchets and hoes to confront him. That was how the earlier standoff happened.
“Mom, cook me more meat, as much as possible. I need to practice boxing.”
Henry Clark said, then turned and walked toward the bamboo grove. As he turned, a cold murderous intent flashed in his eyes.
Two hours later, Henry Clark returned. Olivia Smith had already cooked a big pot of wild boar meat, more than ten jin in total.
