Chapter 7

Ethan Brooks drew in a sharp breath. If this was really the case, then both sides’ battle plans had flaws, but the flaws in Liujin Kingdom’s plan were definitely fewer. Moreover, Ethan Brooks was certain that the Zheyun Kingdom’s military believed that it was impossible to be attacked by fire in the barren canyon, which was why they settled on the plan to flood the enemy.

The Zheyun Kingdom’s army was definitely sending only a small force for the surprise attack—so even if they failed, it wouldn’t be a total loss, but if they succeeded, they could wipe out the enemy’s entire army. Both sides were indeed playing their cards well.

But there was still a huge flaw in Liujin Kingdom’s plan that puzzled Ethan Brooks: since Zheyun Kingdom had made this plan, it meant that Liujin Kingdom’s main force must be stationed in a narrow area, and all their troops must be in the basin. Otherwise, if the camps were empty, Zheyun Kingdom would surely know.

If even the enemy’s army had left and Zheyun Kingdom didn’t know, then the Zheyun Kingdom’s commander might as well buy a block of tofu and kill himself with it.

But since Liujin Kingdom’s army was still in the basin, then Zheyun Kingdom’s flooding really could drown the entire Liujin Kingdom army. If Liujin Kingdom’s army knew about Zheyun Kingdom’s plan, why would they leave such a huge flaw?

You have to know, when the flood comes, nearly a hundred thousand troops absolutely cannot retreat all at once. To say that Liujin Kingdom hadn’t learned of Zheyun Kingdom’s battle plan—Ethan Brooks absolutely didn’t believe it. No matter how foolish a commander was, he wouldn’t station his camps densely in such a narrow area.

Not only did Ethan Brooks remain silent in a daze, but none of the other soldiers who came in volunteered to take on this mission.

When Edward Foster saw that everyone was silent, his face immediately darkened, and he said coldly, “There’s an advance reward of three silver coins for this mission, and our squad only needs to send five people to form a team. The rest will come from other camps.”

But as soon as Edward Foster finished speaking, Ethan Brooks stepped forward in delight and said, “William Foster, is there really a reward of three silver coins? I, Samuel Carter, and Brian Cooper will take this mission.”

As soon as Ethan Brooks spoke, almost everyone looked at Ethan Brooks as if he were an idiot—this guy was selling his life for just three silver coins.

Samuel Carter and Brian Cooper, seeing that Ethan Brooks had already accepted the mission, had nothing to say. They could only lower their heads and step forward to stand beside Ethan Brooks.

Edward Foster was very pleased to see this and immediately said, “Good, I like straightforward people like you. Liam Brooks will be the team leader for this mission. You three go back and prepare; the other two will come to report to you soon.” With that, Edward Foster took out nine silver coins.

Ethan Brooks immediately stepped forward happily to collect the coins, then pulled Samuel Carter and Brian Cooper and quickly left the camp.

Chapter 005: The One Thing I Can’t Figure Out

Samuel Carter and Brian Cooper weren’t exactly clever, but even they could see that this was basically a suicide mission. So when Ethan Brooks dragged them out, neither of them was in high spirits.

Ethan Brooks looked at Samuel Carter and Brian Cooper’s faces and knew what they were thinking. He pulled them aside to a secluded spot, wanting to explain things to them—otherwise, it would be a problem if they tried to run away at night.

“Samuel Carter big brother, do you think that by taking this mission, I’m definitely going to die?” Ethan Brooks waited until there was no one around before pulling Samuel Carter aside and asking.

Samuel Carter and Brian Cooper said with straight faces, “Isn’t that the case?”

But Ethan Brooks smiled slightly. “If taking this mission is a one-in-ten-thousand chance of survival, then staying here is certain death.”

Samuel Carter and Brian Cooper were stunned, looking at Ethan Brooks, not understanding why he said that.

What Ethan Brooks didn’t notice was that, as he spoke, a captain happened to walk nearby and overheard him. The captain’s first reaction was to arrest this guy for spreading panic and have him executed. But then he realized this was a deserted spot, so he stopped, wanting to hear what this soldier had to say.

Seeing the two looking at him, Ethan Brooks continued, “You both saw the sand table William Foster showed us today, right?”

“Yeah, we were told to memorize the breakout route. I remember it all,” Brian Cooper said.

Ethan Brooks then drew the map simply on the ground and said, “You saw the Liujin Kingdom’s camp, right? Did you hear what the general said after William Foster? Our army will attack here in the next few days, forcing the Liujin Kingdom’s troops into the basin. Then we’ll break the dam and flood their army. Our army will probably choose to launch a night raid, so the enemy will suffer even greater losses in the water.”

Suddenly, Samuel Carter had an epiphany. “Yeah, why didn’t I think of that? This way, our army is sure to win! Our general is truly wise, truly wise.”

Jack Brooks sneered, “If that were really the case, I wouldn’t have dragged you two to take this mission. Samuel Carter, look—where is the Liujin Kingdom’s camp? It’s at a narrow valley entrance. Do you think their general is an idiot, stationing his troops there?”

“That’s not a big deal. The Liujin Kingdom’s army couldn’t beat us, so they retreated there in the end. They had no choice,” Samuel Carter clearly disagreed with Ethan Brooks’s opinion.

But Ethan Brooks didn’t argue. Instead, he asked, “Do you think our soldiers are stronger than theirs, or have you seen how many of their men have been lost?”
