Chapter 2

“Is this child my son?”

The burly man pondered this, feeling even more displeased toward the baby in his arms. But just then, the muttering of a robust woman reached his ears: Maybe it’s a monster, maybe Joan was killed by it.

A monster?

A thought flashed through the burly man’s mind, sending a chill down his spine. His hand loosened involuntarily.

With a thud, Nancy Brooks fell onto the bed. Fortunately, it wasn’t very high—though it hurt, it wasn’t enough to make him cry out loud.

An infant’s body, an adult’s mind.

Nancy Brooks couldn’t adapt to this change right away. When he landed on the bed, he instinctively stayed silent.

Could this child really be a monster?

Little did they know, this reaction only deepened the suspicions of those around him.

The burly man was already feeling uneasy. Seeing Nancy Brooks neither cry nor fuss, but instead look at him coldly, a fine layer of sweat broke out on his forehead.

“Someone, throw this monster into the lotus pond and drown it!”

“Father-in-law, isn’t that a bit much?”

Behind the burly man, a young man stepped forward, about seventeen or eighteen years old, strong and sturdy.

He spoke softly, “Maybe he’s just mute… You’re nearly forty and still have no son. If…”

“Brian Ford, look at his eyes, look at his gaze… Have you ever seen a newborn child look like that? He can’t be kept, he can’t be kept… He even killed his own mother. If he grows up, he definitely won’t spare me. Maybe by then, the whole Dong family will become his food. Kill him!”

The burly man pointed at Nancy Brooks in terror, shouting loudly.

Chapter One: Rebirth (2)

The young man called Brian Ford frowned slightly. He looked at Nancy Brooks, a trace of pity in his eyes.

But he didn’t dare to persuade further. After all, Nancy Brooks’s behavior was just too strange. He couldn’t tell if this child was human or ghost, and he also worried that his father-in-law’s words might one day come true. So he kept his mouth shut.

A robust woman stepped forward and picked up Nancy Brooks.

It was only then that Nancy Brooks reacted.

“I’m not a monster, I’m not a monster!” he shouted loudly, struggling with all his might. But the sound that came from his mouth was a baby’s wail. And his struggle only deepened everyone’s suspicions.

Did this child understand what was being said? If so, he must be a monster!

Nancy Brooks struggled desperately in the woman’s arms, but the strength of a newborn was nothing to an adult.

He thought he’d died an unnatural death, but unexpectedly got a new life. Yet just as he was reborn, he was about to die again.

That blind fortune-teller in the county was right—Nancy Brooks’s “Fei” probably really meant “unnatural death”!

Nancy Brooks lost all hope and gave up resisting.

Just as the woman was about to carry him out the door, she suddenly stopped.

An elegantly dressed old woman, supported by several maids, blocked the woman’s path. Behind the old woman stood a delicate, pretty girl of about thirteen or fourteen, anxiously watching Nancy Brooks in the woman’s arms.

Seeing the old woman, the robust woman hurriedly knelt down.

“Grace, is it a boy?”

“Grandmother, it’s a boy.”

“Give me the child!”

There was an undeniable authority in the old woman’s words. The maids quickly took Nancy Brooks from the woman and placed him in the old woman’s hands.

How could this old lady do such a thing!

Nancy Brooks was furious and protested loudly. The old woman, after taking Nancy Brooks, actually reached out to touch his little pee-pee. Even though he was in a baby’s body, he still had an adult’s mind. In his previous life, Nancy Brooks was a virgin and had never touched a woman. Who would have thought that after being reborn, he’d be molested by an old lady like this.

The louder he protested, the louder his cries became.

The old woman’s face hadn’t looked good at first, but after touching Nancy Brooks’s little pee-pee, she actually looked delighted.

When she heard Nancy Brooks’s cries, her joy only grew, and in the end, she was beaming with happiness, not even bothering to acknowledge the burly man and his followers kneeling before her, just nodding and smiling nonstop.

“It’s a boy, it’s a boy! The Dong family has an heir, the Dong family has an heir!”

So this family’s surname is Dong too? What a coincidence.

“Your son greets his mother!”

Don’t be fooled by the burly man’s fierce appearance—he was extremely respectful to the old woman, without a trace of displeasure.

“Grandmother, is it really a little brother?”

“Yes, a little brother, a little brother… Grace, you must treat your little brother well from now on.”

“Grandmother, let me hold him, let me hold him!”

“Be careful, don’t drop him.”

The girl was very pretty, looking nothing like the burly man. She held Nancy Brooks, giggling nonstop, and said, “Call me sister, hurry, call me sister… Daddy, Grace has a little brother now! Hee hee, call me sister!”
