Chapter 16

Whether it’s the provincial capital Bigorre, the textile center Suhit, or the capital Trier, they’re all better choices. Even if you want to pick a place with a good environment and nice air, those big cities also have certain areas to choose from.

Audrey Miller once said, the best way to hide is to hide in a big city... Logan Smith’s thoughts churned, unable to calm down.

It was only today that he learned the plot of land Audrey Miller chose, the land where the house was built, once belonged to a wizard...

“Where was that wizard buried?” Raymond Craig couldn’t help but ask.

There was no hope for the property inside the house; they could only see if the wizard’s remains were special.

Nora Collins said with a laugh, “Such a big event would definitely have alarmed the parish priest.

“At the time, everyone used nine oxen to drag the coffin to the cemetery beside the church, where the parish priest held a ceremony, performed a purification, and finally burned the body to ashes, dug a hole, and buried it.”

“I see...” Raymond Craig couldn’t hide his disappointment.

“Why are you asking about this?” Nora Collins studied his expression for a while before asking.

Logan Smith let out a laugh and spoke a truth that sounded more like a lie:

“We want to find the wizard’s treasure.”

“Young people shouldn’t always be fantasizing.” Nora Collins admonished.

“Alright.” Logan Smith acted very obedient.

He and Raymond Craig bid farewell to Nora Collins and set off toward the village square.

“There’s no hope, Logan Smith, there’s just no hope.” After rounding a building, Raymond Craig said dejectedly.

“Indeed, whatever could be burned was burned, and whatever could be taken has been taken away decades ago.” Logan Smith nodded.

Because of the opportunity that arose from the dream, he wasn’t quite as disappointed.

Raymond Craig agreed, “Yeah, in the whole legend, only that owl hasn’t been destroyed.”

“Owl...” Logan Smith’s eyes lit up, and he looked toward the forested hills outside the village.

Raymond Craig shivered and quickly added, “But after all these years, it must have died long ago.”

He was very afraid of coming into contact with such an evil creature as an owl.

In southern Intis, owls, nightingales, and crows are all considered ominous, evil creatures that serve the devil, often taking away human souls or bringing misfortune.

Chapter 8 Owl

Logan Smith had just suddenly gotten an inspiration; he didn’t really want to act on it.

Not to mention so many years had passed, and owls have much shorter lifespans than humans. The one that flew over when the wizard died should have long since rotted into the earth. Just the sheer number of owls in these mountains made Logan Smith lose any desire to track it down.

There were just too many!

And that owl didn’t have any obvious features... No, in the legend, that owl had no specific image, and Nora Collins hadn’t mentioned any just now... We still didn’t ask carefully enough... Logan Smith came back to his senses and smiled at Raymond Craig: “An owl related to a wizard might just live a hundred years.”

Seeing Raymond Craig getting more and more frightened, he comforted him, “Don’t worry, this is the last resort. I don’t want to face a monster either.

“Let’s ask some other elders, maybe there’s a key clue Nora Collins overlooked.”

He then said in a bewitching tone, “If I were a wizard, I definitely wouldn’t keep all my treasures on me or at home. I’d surely hide some somewhere, in case the Inquisition suddenly raided and I had to flee at once, with empty pockets.”

One of the main duties of the “Eternal Blazing Sun” Church’s Inquisition is to eliminate all wizards and witches. Their “great achievements” are widely spread in the countryside.

“That’s right!” Raymond Craig was reinvigorated.

He said longingly, “What a pity, so many years have passed, the treasures the church seized must have been spent long ago.”

“Young man, that’s a dangerous thought.” Logan Smith teased.

The two continued to visit old Pierre of the Mori family, Natalie Collins, and other elders.

Although their answers were much the same as Nora Collins’s, with experience, Logan Smith and Raymond Craig still managed to ask for more details.

For example, that owl was medium to large in size, basically the same as its kind: a sharp beak, a cat-like face, brown feathers with fine speckles, tawny sclera, and black pupils...

But its body was a size larger than similar owls, and its eyes seemed to move, not as stiff as its kind, making it look dazed.

In all the descriptions, these differences made that owl seem even more evil.

“Looks like there aren’t any useful clues.” On the road to the village square, Logan Smith said to Raymond Craig, “We can only focus on other legends.”

“Mm.” Raymond Craig was no longer as frustrated as at the start. “Which one should we pick?”

This guy is so enthusiastic and hardworking... Logan Smith secretly praised, preparing to give Raymond Craig a little reward.

He nodded, “Go back and think it over carefully. We’ll discuss and decide tomorrow.

“This afternoon, I’ll teach you some fighting techniques.”

“Great!” Raymond Craig was delighted by this unexpected event.
