Chapter 9

“By the way, Senior Sister White, next time something like this happens…”

Brian Clark pointed at David Foster, who was measuring dimensions, and whispered, “Could you discuss it with me first?”

  “Is there something wrong?”

“I’m still young, I want to keep working hard.”

  “What?”

“Nothing, I’m just talking nonsense again.”

  ……

At noon, the disciples in charge of recruiting workers arrived, bringing dozens of people up the mountain.

James White didn’t mention the cost of rebuilding Yuhua Sect, and Brian Clark didn’t ask. Whether he asked or not, it was the same—they couldn’t afford it even if they sold everything.

Watching the mountain gate grow busier, Brian Clark secretly enjoyed the pointing and whispering from those around, feeling he had the makings of a kept man, and at the same time felt ashamed of his own delight.

His senior sister treated him so well; he ought to respect her.

So, he decided to truly respect James White from the bottom of his heart, letting all the gossip about being a pretty boy go in one ear and out the other, without even thinking of explaining himself.

Explaining would be too deliberate, and he disdained superficial respect.

James White also heard some of the rumors, but with her calm mind, she was unmoved. She brought Brian Clark to the deep pool behind the mountain to begin his first step of cultivation.

  Reading.

Three sets of twelve Daoist classics were placed before Brian Clark. His task was to read them repeatedly until the spiritual energy in his body reacted, completing the initial ‘awakening’ stage.

The bad news was, the twelve classics stacked up to about half a meter high, daunting to look at; the good news was, there were no tables of contents—they were all here.

So this is how NPCs ‘awaken’? This is totally different from players!

Awakening is when players choose their main class. Each account can only choose once, and once chosen, it can’t be changed. Players who regret their choice can only delete their account and start over.

In the world of Kyushu, there are four main classes: Daoist, Demonic, Beast, and Buddhist cultivators. Each has its own focus in the early stages and distinct features later on, and every class has its own irreplaceable charm.

In Kyushu, Daoist, Beast, and Buddhist cultivation are officially recognized by all nations as orthodox paths. Demonic cultivation is considered unorthodox, as most demonic cultivators have terrible reputations and occupy ninety percent of the wanted lists in every country, so it’s not accepted as mainstream.

That’s the official story. In private…

Let’s put it this way: whether Daoist or Beast cultivator, all cultivation paths ultimately lead to the same destination. The true way is to learn from all schools. If you don’t know at least a couple of demonic techniques, you’d be embarrassed to call yourself an immortal cultivator.

Similarly, as a demonic cultivator, having a few sarira for protection is perfectly reasonable and logical.

Of the four main classes, Daoist cultivation is the most compatible, embracing all rivers and seas, and offers the greatest flexibility in choosing techniques.

Demonic cultivators are passionate and extreme, believing in breaking before making, always advancing and never retreating. That’s why fools and tough guys flock together, producing all sorts of oddballs.

Beast cultivation is the most restrictive—only those of the beast race or humans with beast bloodlines can practice it. Essentially, it’s about refining the bloodline, tracing the acquired back to the innate, like a caterpillar evolving into Rayquaza, awakening the hidden power in their blood. Beast cultivators with powerful bloodlines can even awaken innate divine abilities, easily crushing those of the same level.

Compared to these flashy types, Buddhist cultivation is much more traditional, reserved, and sticks to its roots, without any fancy tricks.

In the early stages, Buddhist cultivators have the lowest combat power, but in the later stages, a strong Buddhist cultivator can do it all—compete in spells with Daoists, go head-to-head with demonic cultivators, and arm-wrestle beast cultivators in close combat.

Of course, all this happened before the players logged in. Once the Fourth Calamity descended, these fearless guys went wild, leaving the local NPC cultivators exclaiming in amazement—so immortals could cultivate like this too!

Chapter 6: Feeling It

When 【Kyushu World】 first launched, players favored the four main classes differently, with the majority choosing demonic and beast cultivators—together making up a full seventy percent.

Daoist cultivators accounted for just over twenty percent, and Buddhist cultivators less than ten percent.

There were dedicated threads on the official forum discussing this. Players were quite unanimous: in the real world, everyone is a good kid, law-abiding and harmless, but in the virtual world, they wanted to rebel for once.

As for the real reason, those who get it, get it; those who don’t, don’t ask. If you ask, it’s just that everyone’s tired of fairies—demon girls and devil girls are the new trend.

It’s too real to say outright, so it’s kept under wraps—no malice intended.

  As for Buddhist cultivators…

Best not to mention it—they lost out by being too proper.

Players could choose their preferred main class when creating an account, then descend into various regions of Kyushu World to find an NPC and complete the ‘awakening’ initiation.

The process was simple and quick. As long as you found the right NPC, without exception, you’d display your ‘astonishing talent’ and successfully awaken on the first try.

Brian Clark had no choice—the three sets of twelve Daoist classics meant he could only choose Daoist cultivation. The NPC template left him uncertain whether he had outstanding talent and could enter the Dao in one go like the players.

If he did, all would be well. If not, forget it—he’d stop trying so hard in the future.

Scalp tingling, he opened the first Daoist text and began to read silently, word by word. As the words and diagrams entered his eyes, a warm current immediately rose in his lower abdomen.

  It’s working!

“Junior Brother Clark, if you feel the spiritual energy in your body impacting the Yangwei and Yinwei meridians, and your blood and energy are full…”
