Chapter 20

“In these two months, I spent all my savings just to find a job.” Then William Clark briefly recounted everything he had experienced during these two months.

Flores listened quietly, truly surprised that there was such a story behind this young man.

His opinion of the young man rose even higher.

A person who is confident, yet able to endure hardship, who does not shrink from difficulties, and who bravely pursues his ideals...

He took out his wallet, pulled out a stack of bills without even counting them, and handed them to William Clark.

“You don’t need to go back to Madrid. Just stay temporarily in the dormitory at Las Margaritas Sports City (Estadio_de_lasMargaritas). This is from me personally, it’s not much, just to help you out for now.”

William Clark looked at the stack of bills in front of him. He didn’t know exactly how much it was, but every bill was the largest denomination—ten thousand pesetas.

This was definitely not “not much money.”

He really hadn’t expected the president of Getafe Club to be such an easygoing old man.

Not only did he give him a job, but also gave him money. You have to know, this was their first meeting, and it hadn’t even been half an hour.

He thought about how the two old men he’d met in the past two days were both good people. Could it be that his luck was turning around?

William Clark didn’t bother with any pretentious refusals and simply accepted the money. “I’ll treat this as a loan from you, Mr. President. I’ll definitely pay you back.”

Flores smiled. “No need to pay me back. Just do your best, young man.”

William Clark nodded vigorously.

After two months of cold shoulders, he finally tasted a bit of warmth in the world.

No matter how much he knew about Getafe, he felt he really should work hard to live up to the president’s trust.

He wondered if, when his brother first arrived on the European continent to pursue his dreams, it was the same for him.

After a hearty dinner, William Clark lay on the bed in the dormitory at Las Margaritas Sports City.

He felt happy.

Finally, he didn’t have to eat that awful, rock-hard baguette anymore.

Spanish paella actually tasted pretty good...

He rolled around on the bed, then began to think.

Everything that happened today felt like a dream. He really hadn’t expected to get the job so easily.

The constant failures of the past two months had made him feel that finding a job wasn’t so easy. In fact, he’d come to Getafe with the attitude of “trying anything at this point.”

He had even thought that if he failed the interview, he’d just find any job in Getafe, so he didn’t need money for the return trip.

Unexpectedly, he actually succeeded!

He didn’t know which sentence during the interview had moved that old man.

But he didn’t plan to dwell on it—there was no point in overthinking.

As long as the result was good, that was all that mattered.

He only knew that although he had once strayed from the path in pursuit of his ultimate dream, now he was back on track!

Now he had another chance to fulfill the dream he shared with his brother—to become a head coach remembered in history!

However...

William Clark turned over and sat up.

If it were his brother pursuing this dream, he had no doubt that, given time, his brother would definitely succeed.

But what about himself?

He wasn’t really a coach.

He had never received any coaching training; he had only crammed a few days’ worth of textbooks. In reality, when it came to training a team and being a qualified coach, he was still completely clueless.

He was just an ordinary football fan, only a bit more knowledgeable than most.

But so what?

There are millions of fans like him in the world—why can’t they become coaches? There must be reasons.

Before he came here, he’d heard a piece of news.

It was said that a twenty-one-year-old Swedish university student, because he was good at playing the FM game, was hired as a coach by a club in the Azerbaijan Premier League. This fan beat out several competitors, including former AC Milan star and French legend Papin. This should be the best example of an ordinary fan’s dream coming true.

But in reality, this guy wasn’t just an “ordinary fan.”

Before becoming the head coach of that Azerbaijan Premier League team, he had worked as a scout, so he was already an insider in the football world. The reason the Azerbaijan club chose him as head coach was precisely because of his talent and ability in finding players.

William Clark couldn’t compare to that.

William Clark was truly an outsider, with no foundation at all.

So how could he fulfill the dream he shared with his brother and become an outstanding head coach?

Learn slowly through actual work?

That seemed to be the only way. But William Clark didn’t know if his employer would give him that time. If he couldn’t show his ability soon, maybe he’d be fired before two months were up.
