“Ever since that cat spirit appeared, the only one in the residence who hasn’t dared to show herself, madam... seems to be you.” Liam Carter’s gaze was gentle as he looked into Mrs. Miller’s eyes.
Mrs. Miller let out a mocking laugh. “Young Hero Liam, are you suggesting that I’m a demon?”
“Whether you are or not, we’ll know with a test.” Liam Carter replied.
“You have a demon-revealing mirror?” Mrs. Miller raised her brows, clearly unconvinced.
For demons and monsters to reveal their true forms, either they must actively use their magic and thus leak demonic energy; or one must possess special divine abilities, which Liam Carter’s cultivation was not yet sufficient to learn; or one must have a specialized magical artifact, the most famous being the demon-revealing mirror.
But such mirrors are extremely rare. It’s said there’s one in the imperial palace, one at Yunque Temple of the Buddhist sect, and indeed, the Shushan Sect also has one. But whether a mere junior disciple would be allowed to bring one down the mountain is highly questionable.
“No.” Liam Carter shook his head. “But I have something similar.”
Chapter 006: What are you doing with my wife?
The atmosphere seemed a bit tense.
After a brief pause, suddenly, both voices in the room spoke in unison: “What’s that over there?”
Liam Carter and Mrs. Miller simultaneously pointed their left hands behind each other’s backs, while their right hands were hidden behind them.
Yet neither of them turned around.
The tricks were getting serious.
The mood was a bit awkward.
“Heh.” Mrs. Miller chuckled. “Fine, since that’s how it is, I won’t waste words with you. Ever since you entered the room, I’ve hidden Illusion Heart Poison in the candles I lit. If you want the antidote, you’d better leave quietly and mind your own business.”
“If I dared to come in, of course I was prepared. In fact, from the moment you lit the incense, I’ve been holding my breath, not daring to inhale.” Liam Carter said.
Mrs. Miller’s smile faded. Only now did she realize that, though she might have four hundred tricks up her sleeve, this seemingly young man before her had at least as many, if not more.
“All these years, I’ve never harmed anyone. I just want to live a peaceful life with my husband. Now that you’ve completed your task, can’t you just leave as if nothing happened?” Her tone turned somewhat pleading.
Liam Carter replied, “But that wouldn’t be right.”
In the next instant, the situation changed dramatically!
The delicate woman before him suddenly sprang up, flicking her right hand. A long, black whip shot toward Liam Carter like a spirit snake flicking its tongue, aiming to capture him in one swift move!
Liam Carter flicked his left hand, and with a clang, his bracelet transformed into a sword, blocking Mrs. Miller’s whip. He tried to twist and cut it off.
But whatever that whip was made of, even a Shushan flying sword couldn’t sever it.
Bang—
Each held one end, locked in a struggle of strength.
The bedroom was cramped, and as their energies clashed, the sounds of impact rang out, furniture and decorations shattering all around.
After a brief stalemate, Mrs. Miller raised her left hand, which instantly turned into a sharp claw, slashing out three deadly black streaks.
Liam Carter dodged aside, raising his left arm to shoot out a red beam.
Mrs. Miller dodged nimbly as well, but the red beam seemed almost sentient. As she sidestepped, it curved with a whoosh and quickly wrapped around her.
Tortoise Shell Bind!
Demon-Binding Rope!
At such close range, the Demon-Binding Rope was nearly impossible to evade. In terms of cultivation, Mrs. Miller should have been far stronger than the cat spirit from last night, yet she was still caught in one move!
Thud.
Bound tightly in layers of red rope in the tortoise shell style, Mrs. Miller immediately lost her balance and fell to the ground, her black whip dropping beside her.
But she still raised her head, gritting her teeth as she glared at Liam Carter. “You…”
Just as the fight ended, a voice called from outside the door.
“Wife? What was that noise just now? Are you alright?” Calling out, Mr. Miller stepped into the bedroom.
And then—
He saw the scene before him.
The room was a complete mess, and his wife was lying on the ground, tied up in a strange and conspicuous position…
“Ah.” Mr. Miller staggered back two steps, holding his forehead, his eyes dazed. He couldn’t help but exclaim, “Th-this… what are you doing with my wife?”
…
Liam Carter quickly stopped Mr. Miller, telling him not to panic, that things weren’t as they seemed… He had him sit down to calm his nerves, and then asked him to help Mrs. Miller up from the floor.
After being tied up like that, the graceful Mrs. Miller was indeed a bit alluring, and Liam Carter didn’t dare to lend a hand at all.
“Young Hero Liam, aren’t you going to untie my wife first?” Mr. Miller asked.
“Well…” Liam Carter said, “I’m afraid I can’t.”
He then explained that Mrs. Miller was a demon.
“What?” Mr. Miller was shocked. “My wife is a demon? Impossible! Y-you’re slandering her!”
Liam Carter said, “If you don’t believe me, Mr. Miller, I have a way to make her reveal her true form.”
“No need!” Ever since Mr. Miller entered, Mrs. Miller had been silent, but now she suddenly shouted, making Liam Carter put away the half brick he’d just pulled out.
“Husband, actually… I’ve never dared to tell you.” Mrs. Miller said in a low voice, “I really am a demon.”
“What? Th-this… how can that be? You’re so gentle and kind…” Mr. Miller still refused to believe it.
“Who says all demons are evil?” When Mrs. Miller looked up again, her face was already streaked with tears.
