Chapter 1

Chapter One: I Should Be Under the Car

William Grant, who had fallen asleep from exhaustion, heard the low whispers of a man and a woman by his ear.

He didn’t know how long it lasted, until the sound of the door being bolted echoed.

At last, the William Grant under the bed was startled awake from his groggy state.

Then, he heard two breathing sounds rising and falling in the room.

“Shishi…”

“Zhou Lang…”

“Shishi…”

William Grant didn’t get the response he expected; instead, he heard the bed begin to react.

The interwoven breaths instantly became rapid.

“……”

Listening to the moans and hums from the bed, and the sounds like a whale gulping water or someone feasting heartily—

The dizzy and muddled William Grant didn’t know for a moment whether he should politely crawl out and leave,

Or knock on the bedboard to remind the brother above to mind his manners.

But neither seemed quite appropriate, since he himself wasn’t exactly in a proper place.

After listening under the bed for a while, William Grant felt like there was a child above who hadn’t even been weaned yet. The thought of such a young child being in the carriage—

While he himself was under the carriage—made William Grant involuntarily think of a saying: Is this the collapse of morality, or the distortion of human nature?

Rustling, moaning, and even seeing a corner of the bedsheet gradually disappear into the carriage—no, the bed.

At that moment, a somewhat muffled voice came from the bed: “Don’t be angry, okay?”

Lying under the bed, William Grant couldn’t help but want to add a line for this not-yet-weaned old boy.

Forgive him—he’s even tugged at the bedsheet, what hurdle can’t he get over?

Bang bang bang—a series of urgent knocks suddenly sounded, and then, a delicate and anxious voice came from outside the door.

“Miss, that Zhao gentleman is here, he’s already entered the courtyard.”

“What?!” The man and woman both exclaimed in surprise.

“Ah, this… what should we do?”

“Miss, hurry… I’ll go down first to greet Zhao gentleman.”

“You go, just say I’m not feeling well and can’t greet him in person.”

A flurry of hurried movements—lying silently under the bed, William Grant could already hear the creaking of the floorboards outside.

“Hurry, under the bed, Mr. Bennett, get in quickly.”

“Huh? This…”

“Hurry up, listen to me.”

William Grant’s eyes instantly bulged—damn! What should he do?

……

Unfortunately, there was no time for William Grant to think.

At that moment, Mr. Bennett helplessly stuck out his butt, got down, and was about to crawl under the bed.

Only to see a pair of bright eyes staring right at him, and he was instantly dumbfounded. “This! This! This!”

There’s actually a living person here?!

“What this, hurry up and get in.” Urged on, Mr. Bennett already heard voices from outside the room.

That dainty little foot he liked so much kept landing on his butt.

Mr. Bennett could only grit his teeth, push with his legs, and squeeze in by force, then…

William Grant just watched as Mr. Bennett, eyes fierce and glaring at him, crawled in.

Thinking about it, since the newcomer was a guest, he should at least be polite.

He took the initiative to scoot further in, then lowered his voice and gestured.

“Move in a bit more, or you’ll be seen from the doorway.”

“……”

Face dark, suspicious and uncertain, Mr. Bennett looked at this young man.

Listening to his experienced explanation, he was completely numb.

He didn’t know whether to say thank you, or to kick this brat out with his toe.

The door was knocked on. William Grant and Mr. Bennett lay shoulder to shoulder under the bed, outwardly calm but inwardly anything but.

“Shishi… Shishi…” A man’s low call came from outside the door.

“Zhao gentleman?” On the bed, a lazy and sultry female voice sounded.

“It’s me, Zhao. Shishi, open the door.”

“Don’t open it, tell him to get lost!”

At this moment, under the bed, both William Grant and Mr. Bennett inwardly roared in unison.

Unfortunately, things rarely go as one wishes. With a creak, the door slowly opened…

……

Four eyes under the bed stared in unison at the door, watching as, after it opened, two legs stepped inside.

Then, with another creak, the door closed, but the person didn’t leave.

“Sir… I’m not feeling well today.”

“Shishi, it wasn’t easy for me to find a chance to come out.

You’re sending me away before I’ve even said a word—isn’t that too much?

Come, come, let’s sit here, keep me company for a chat. I promise, it’s just talking…”

“Don’t believe him, a man’s mouth is full of lies.”

Under the bed, shoulder to shoulder, William Grant and Mr. Bennett both inwardly complained in unison.
