Chapter 5

His arms lifted gently, and between his palms was the purple coffin that had fallen into the medicinal liquid. As his fingers softly caressed its surface, the swirling black and white streams of light above it slipped into his palm, then, as if with a clear target, easily entered his sea of consciousness. In the end, the black and white lights merged into one, forming a scroll.

The scroll was divided into four pages, in two colors: the top two pages were white, the bottom two were black.

“The Book of Life and Death!”

He had succeeded in his tribulation, but at the moment of crossing the void, he triggered a spatial disturbance. The layers of space became chaotic, and his body was destroyed in the violent spatial turbulence, leaving only a wisp of divine sense that arrived here. What he hadn’t expected was that the Book of Life and Death had actually survived.

Henry Clark tossed aside the purple coffin and slowly stood up from the stone tub. As a well-preserved velvet robe covered the crisscrossing scars all over his body, he tied the sash and said calmly, “If you’ve seen enough, go wait outside.”

Outside.

John Foster’s pretty face flushed red as she realized she had just seen a young man’s body completely exposed. Embarrassed, she quickly turned and slipped away. No one but herself knew how fast her heart had been beating in that instant. Yet, after just a few breaths, her heart settled again, weighed down with heaviness:

“The wounds on his body…”

“How could they be so terrifying?”

“What on earth has he been through? How much pain and torment has he suffered?”

Henry Clark finished dressing and, after entering the courtyard, looked at the hunchbacked old man whose face was full of concern and asked indifferently, “This time, who is it?”

The hunchbacked old man replied respectfully, “The Yin-Yang old monster, Robert Foster.”

Henry Clark curled his lip and snorted, “Coward.”

The hunchbacked old man chuckled at these words, “Robert Foster has insulted this old servant in the same way before.”

Henry Clark said disdainfully, “That old thing has done all sorts of evil, but he’s also planted seeds of fear in his enemies’ hearts. They only dare to shout and break things here to vent their anger, but never dare to take our lives. These cowards are destined to be bullied.”

The hunchbacked old man gave a bitter smile, “Young master, the Rare Medicine Shop has been destroyed. What should we do?”

Henry Clark turned to look north, where the endless mountain range lay, filled with countless natural treasures and countless dangers. After a long while, he said calmly, “If it’s destroyed, so be it! It’s time for us to go out and see the world. Before we leave, I’ll go see that little girl…”

Chapter 0003: Karma and Retribution

The Sky Net Empire, three prefectures and eighteen cities.

Hanshan City was under the jurisdiction of the Purple Mansion Prefecture. Not only was it the southernmost part of the prefecture, but also the southern border of the Sky Net Empire, adjacent to the wild southern marshes. To the north was the Golden Luan Mountain Range, which stretched for thousands of miles and was a name that struck fear into the hearts of the people of Purple Mansion Prefecture.

Memory.

Is a precious treasure.

After living a hundred years on Earth, he had gone from a spirited youth, to a life of glory and wealth, and later to hiding his brilliance and living in peace, witnessing too much life and death, experiencing too many partings.

He was Edward Clark!

And now, he was Henry Clark.

The previous Henry Clark’s memories had been fused with his own. He was in control, but had inherited everything of Henry Clark, including this poisoned body. In this world, Henry Clark was withdrawn, knew how to endure, and had suffered from poison for years, forging an extremely strong will.

Two personalities.

Two lives.

The current Henry Clark felt that his own personality was clearly influenced by the previous Henry Clark.

And here…

Henry Clark knew well the vastness and brilliance of this world. Compared to the end-of-law era Earth, it was worlds apart. Hanshan City, where he had been trapped for ten years like a cage, was seen by outsiders as a place of chaos, an adventurer’s world, the largest trading market in the south. But to the current Henry Clark, it was like an undiscovered treasure, full of opportunities everywhere.

Once, his strength was a hundred times greater than it is now.

But if given the choice, he would still prefer this rebirth-like experience.

Because…

Here there are immortal mountains, spiritual lands, and cultivators who can summon wind and rain, chase stars and moon.

The destruction of the Rare Medicine Shop and the exhaustion of blue silver was a disaster on top of disaster for the poisoned Henry Clark, but it also ignited his fighting spirit. After all, a hundred years of tempering on Earth, countless times hovering on the edge of life and death, had long forged his indomitable resilience.

“Young master.”

The hunchbacked old medicine servant’s eyes flashed coldly as he glanced at James Bolton and David Bolton, the father and daughter waiting outside the courtyard, and said calmly, “There are still people outside seeking medicine.”

Seeking medicine?

A cold smile appeared at the corner of Henry Clark’s lips. If he were the previous Henry Clark, he would have been quite displeased.

But in his past life, having experienced the warmth and coldness of human relationships and seen through the essence of many things, he didn’t blame James Bolton and his daughter for not helping. After all, when faced with danger, some people choose to protect themselves. Instead, it was the stunning young woman by his side who had won his favor.

John Foster gazed at Henry Clark’s expression, feeling a strange sensation in her heart. She had seen people smile before, but never with such coldness. Yet, when this smile appeared on the face of a sixteen- or seventeen-year-old boy, it sent a chill through her heart.
