Chapter 0005 Abraham Brooks Is in Trouble

The three ruffians were taken into custody by the Kaifeng Prefecture. At first, the patrol officers tried to stand up for them, twisting right and wrong. But once Abraham Brooks appeared, all of that vanished like smoke.

Exile!

The verdict from Kaifeng Prefecture made the night market merchants cheer with joy, and the shouts for Abraham Brooks even reached the imperial city.

But Ethan Sullivan had been chatting with those vendors a lot lately, gathering information, and he knew that the title Abraham Brooks was open to debate.

So when a minor official appeared before him, Ethan Sullivan knew what was coming.

The official put on a stern face and said, “Do you know what you’re doing?”

Ethan Sullivan replied blankly, “I don’t.”

The official sniffed, glanced at the golden potstickers in the pan, and said, “Inciting a crowd, stirring up the people—if it weren’t for the emperor ordering prayers for blessings lately, you’d already be dead and buried!”

What the heck?

Ethan Sullivan was a bit dumbfounded.

When he learned that the official who came to arrest people by the imperial city that day was Abraham Brooks, Ethan Sullivan was sure this minor official was sent by him.

Kid, your tricks to sway the people—I know all about them. If it weren’t for the emperor’s ban on killing these days, I’d make sure you were dead beyond dead!

Ethan Sullivan nodded numbly, ready to accept his fate, and planned to move out of Bianliang City with his sister.

Seeing him give in, the official smugly said, “Brian Sullivan was a traitor, and I didn’t expect his son to be just as cunning…”

“Bullshit!”

The official stared at Ethan Sullivan in shock and snapped, “How dare you!”

Grace looked uneasy. This was also why Ethan Sullivan never wanted to make a scene, preferring to fight back indirectly through the vendors.

He held Grace’s hand and said, “My sister and I are just trying to survive in the capital. Who are we bothering?”

The official sneered and waved over a ruffian, instructing him to call for more people.

Ethan Sullivan didn’t want trouble, but he knew that since Abraham Brooks had made his stance clear, from now on, minor officials, constables, and even ruffians would be emboldened to come after him.

This was just following orders.

But all I want is to survive!

For the first time, Ethan Sullivan felt that those names that shone in the history books were actually cold and indifferent.

“When my sister and I were driven to desperation by those ruffians, where was Abraham Brooks?”

His voice grew louder, drawing more people over.

The night market was bustling, a mix of all sorts.

A young boy in the crowd was also watching everything unfold.

The official said coldly, “Why didn’t you report it to the authorities?”

“Hahahaha!”

Ethan Sullivan laughed heartily.

“Report it? Those three ruffians have run wild in the night market for years, and the Kaifeng Prefecture is right across the street. May I ask why Abraham Brooks didn’t know?”

Ethan Sullivan stared sharply and demanded, “Who’s backing them up? Who’s protecting these scoundrels who harm the people? Who?!”

The patrol officer who shielded the ruffians was only reprimanded—just going with the flow.

But Ethan Sullivan aimed his criticism directly at Abraham Brooks.

Only this way could he and his sister be safe.

The official’s face turned ashen. “You’re looking for death!”

Ethan Sullivan started laughing and said, “If that’s the case, then I’ll go seek death myself, so Abraham Brooks can cover things up a bit.”

He calmly picked up the bewildered Grace and walked toward the Kaifeng Prefecture office.

The onlookers silently followed.

Most people knew why Ethan Sullivan dealt with those three ruffians, so they naturally resented the attitude of the Kaifeng Prefecture.

The merchants were even more fed up.

“Ethan Sullivan, don’t worry. If you get taken in, we’ll all take care of your sister and raise her like a princess!”

“Abraham Brooks, ha!”

“This is a ‘Clear Sky’ who sides with the thugs!”

“Your Majesty, there are traitors among us!”

In some ways, the Song Dynasty was free-spirited, and the people were used to speaking their minds, so they dared to mock Abraham Brooks.

But Ethan Sullivan knew why Abraham Brooks was doing this.

He had just demonstrated the power of pyramid schemes, and Abraham Brooks had keenly sensed the danger in this trend.

This era had the most gullible people—once they were swayed, things could spiral out of control.

So he sent people to warn Ethan Sullivan, even with murderous intent.

Ethan Sullivan had to fight back, or he wouldn’t be able to take a single step in Bianliang City.

And the official’s contempt when mentioning Brian Sullivan only fueled his anger.

He had never met Brian Sullivan, but he knew about the dangers he faced from the Liao army while on patrol, so he couldn’t allow anyone to slander him.

The young boy in the crowd, protected by servants, also followed along.

Ethan Sullivan made his way to the front of the Kaifeng Prefecture office, then hugged Grace and said, “Grace, don’t be afraid. It’ll be just as fun as before.”

On the journey from Xiongzhou to Kaifeng, Ethan Sullivan often played games with Grace to keep her happy. Her favorite was the game where officials interrogated criminals.

“Brother…”

Grace clung to his neck, her timid eyes making Ethan Sullivan’s anger flare to the max.

“Brother is just playing the game of catching criminals with them!”

Ethan Sullivan comforted his sister, feeling for the first time the downside of not having a complete family.

If he had a home, he could leave his sister there to be cared for, instead of dragging her out to suffer with him.

But tonight, he could endure no more.

He had to make a scene for the sake of a peaceful life for himself and his sister in Bianliang City!
