Chapter 16

"Don't, teacher, someone could die from this!" William Carter said with a wry smile.

"Hmph, how could someone die just from doing a problem? I don't believe it." James Turner looked William Carter up and down, nodding approvingly. "Not bad, very good. I rarely praise a student like this. If you weren't just a freshman, I'd really want to talk to the people at the academic office and have you transferred to my office for research."

"Teacher, you flatter me. There's still so much I need to learn. If I really did research with you, I'd probably just hold you back." William Carter knew Professor Turner was joking, so he replied modestly.

James Turner snorted and criticized, "Hmph, don't give me those polite words. If you're going to be a scholar, then focus on your studies. Stop stuffing yourself with all that empty talk."

Although he was inexplicably criticized, William Carter knew that Professor Turner wasn't really angry, but was truly treating him as his student and teaching him.

When this old gentleman is really angry, he always has a smile on his face. For example, just now when he was writing on the blackboard, thinking William Carter was just pretending to do fake scholarship, he must have been really mad.

"You're right, teacher. I understand."

Seeing the sincere look on William Carter's face, James Turner nodded, his tone softening a bit as he continued, "It's a good thing to be interested in mathematics. I hope you keep it up. Also, the direction you've chosen is good. It may not be a hot field, but it's easy to achieve results. If you have a good idea, just go for it. If you don't understand something, read more and ask more questions. That's how scholarship is done. Who knows, you might discover something others can't."

After a pause, Professor Turner continued, "Our math department at Jin University may not be that strong, but the physics department is top-notch. In the application of Fourier transforms, their use in spectrum analysis, data compression, and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing is quite extensive. If you make some achievements in this area, I believe by your senior year, several professors from the physics department next door will be fighting over you."

At this point, Professor Turner smiled and said, "Study more, read more, practice more, and research more. That's all the nonsense I'll say. Go think it over yourself, I won't take up any more of your time."

"Thank you, Professor! Your heartfelt advice, I will always remember." William Carter said sincerely.

"Don't give me that crap, what did I just tell you? If you want to thank me, just say thanks, then hurry up and get lost. Do you want me to get up and see you out?" James Turner scolded with a laugh.

William Carter chuckled, grabbed his scratch paper and pen, turned and walked out, and even closed the door to the Q&A room behind him.

Looking back at the blackboard, James Turner smacked his lips, sighed, and couldn't help but marvel in his heart.

Jinling really deserves to be the ancient capital of six dynasties, a place that produces outstanding people.

Our Jin University, standing on this dragon vein, truly is a place where talent flourishes!

The undergraduates in the audience looked bewildered, glancing at the dizzying formulas on the blackboard, then at their own exercise books, feeling a mix of emotions.

Maybe I'm attending a fake university...

Chapter 10: I Have Two Girlfriends

Men's dorm, Room 201.

Under the desk lamp, David Foster, who was working on problems, suddenly put down his pen, glanced at the dorm door, and asked in a tone of indifference, carelessness, and utter nonchalance, "Why isn't that pork knuckle back yet?"

Sitting on the bed playing Dota Legends, Thomas Hill didn't even look up and replied cheekily, "No idea. Why do you care so much about him? Are you gay? Driver bro, that's disgusting!"

"Get down here! I'll kick your ass!"

David Foster cursed, jumped up, grabbed the ladder and shook the bed, scaring Thomas Hill so much that he stopped looking at his phone and quickly hugged the railing, begging for mercy.

"Dave Dave, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Stop shaking! Someone's going to die! Ahhh~"

Actually, no one could possibly die. The beds were two rows joined together, with so many books and clothes in the cabinets weighing them down. Even if David Foster hung his whole body weight on it, there was no way such a huge rectangular block could be toppled.

These two jokers messing around had pretty much become a daily routine in Room 201.

At this moment, Eric Grant, who was reviewing English, suddenly looked up and said out of nowhere, "But come to think of it, pork knuckle hasn't been doing part-time jobs lately, and I haven't seen him, uh, at night either. He's been spending all his time in the library. Could it be..."

"Could it be?" David Foster perked up his ears.

"Could it be he's dating someone?" Eric Grant asked uncertainly.

David Foster: "..."

Thomas Hill: "..."

"...Uh, why aren't you guys saying anything?" Realizing he'd killed the mood, Eric Grant said awkwardly.

David Foster and Thomas Hill exchanged a glance, then looked at Eric Grant together.

David Foster said seriously, "Frank."

"Damn it, call me Frank one more time and I'll lose it!"

Thomas Hill said solemnly, "Frank, we're in the math department."

"......"

The logic was flawless. For a moment, Eric Grant was left speechless, almost to the point of tears.

The proportion of single guys in the math department absolutely tops the entire Jin University. Other engineering departments can at least pick a class beauty, but in their department... if they wanted to pick a class beauty, they'd probably have to convince the class monitor to cross-dress.
