Chapter 3

“Gone? Where did she go?” William Thompson grew angry. If that wasn’t a hallucination, then those little feet that kicked his handsome face were real too? No wonder his face felt swollen when he woke up, and it still hadn’t gone down.

“She went to report to the Heavenly Court. Since she’s ascended to the Immortal Realm, of course she has to be under its jurisdiction.” The old man spoke as if it was only natural.

“Damn it…” William Thompson cursed under his breath.

“Ahem…” At this moment, the old man leered and moved closer to William Thompson. “Young master, do you have a grudge against her?”

“No!”

“Then did you steal her magic treasure?”

“No, I didn’t!”

“Could it be… you molested her?” The old man looked astonished.

“Damn… what exactly are you trying to say?” William Thompson asked impatiently.

The old man stroked his goatee. “Actually, Fairy Gu is quite pretty…” He paused, as if recalling something shocking, and shivered all over. “Just a bit too fierce. But that’s understandable—if anyone had half of their Ascension Immortal Light shared away for no reason, even an immortal would be angry. So, young master, even if she kicked you hundreds of times and slapped you hundreds of times, you shouldn’t be mad at her… Ah, did I mention that another function of the Ascension Immortal Light is to help newly ascended immortals shape their immortal golden bodies?”

William Thompson only felt a blaze of anger in his heart. No wonder his whole body felt like it had been kicked by hundreds of people! Turns out that crazy woman really did kick him hundreds of times. Damn it.

“Oh, right.” The old man spoke up again. “When Fairy Gu went to report to the Heavenly Court, she told me to take good care of you.”

William Thompson was surprised. “That woman still has a conscience?”

“She said, when she has some free time, she’ll come back and deal with you slowly.”

Chapter 2 “The Spiritual Gathering Treasury”

It had already been several days since arriving in the Immortal Realm. William Thompson was the type to go with the flow, and after the initial panic and helplessness, he had completely adapted to the environment here and was amazed by his own luck.

The Immortal Realm—how many people’s dream was it? And he had stomped right into it. William Thompson couldn’t help but secretly praise the thunder god for striking him at just the right moment.

Just as the old man said, he had forcibly snatched away a small half of Fairy Gu’s Ascension Immortal Light. Not only had his body become incredibly sturdy, but his recovery was freakishly strong. The swelling from a few days ago had already completely healed, and his cultivation had jumped from having no foundation at all straight to the late Xuan Zhao stage. And because of the transformation from the Ascension Immortal Light, if he cultivated in the future, he would definitely progress with half the effort for double the results.

In the old man’s words: “Kid, you really stepped in a big pile of dog shit.”

A few days of idle chatting had let William Thompson learn some basic knowledge about cultivation. In the mortal world, cultivation is divided into thirteen stages: Foundation Establishment, Xuan Zhao, Fasting, Enlightenment, Fusion, Heart Movement, Spiritual Silence, Nascent Soul, Out-of-Body, Distraction, Integration, Tribulation Crossing, and Great Perfection. Each stage has early, middle, and late phases.

As for the old man dressed like a Shaanbei peasant, according to himself, he was the 47th Ascension Immortal Envoy of the Immortal Realm, and his own cultivation had already reached the late Great Perfection stage. In a few decades, he’d be qualified to join the ranks of the immortals.

Not everyone in the Immortal Realm is an immortal. You have to know, the Immortal Realm is just one of the countless realms in this universe, and not everyone is invincible. It’s just that people in the Immortal Realm start off much better than those in the mortal world. Every newborn baby is already a Nascent Soul expert, and the truly gifted can even reach the Out-of-Body or Distraction stage right from birth.

Right now, William Thompson really couldn’t even compare to a baby—he’d only reached the late Xuan Zhao stage, not even the Fasting stage.

“You really are the first of your kind since the dawn of the Immortal Realm,” the old man shook his head. “The number one good-for-nothing!”

This was what the old man said after William Thompson, starving, pounced on a sparrow-like little bird in the forest, only to be turned into an ice sculpture by a barrage of ice arrows from the bird.

“That bearded reedling is just a first-rank spirit beast in the Immortal Realm, and it beat you up like this. You really are useless.”

“Damn it, how was I supposed to know it could shoot ice arrows? What kind of Immortal Realm is this? This is hell. Wuwuwu… I’m so hungry.” William Thompson clutched his stomach and shivered as he spoke.

If the old man hadn’t rescued him in time, he might have been frozen to death by that little bird.

The travel bag he’d carried when ascending to the Immortal Realm had come with him, but its contents only lasted William Thompson a few days. Today, he was so hungry he couldn’t stand it anymore, so he set his sights on the small animals in the forest.

“Do you have anything to eat?” William Thompson looked pitifully at the Shaanbei peasant in front of him. “Or, could you help me catch a few spirit beasts?”

The Ascension Immortal Envoy rolled his eyes. He’d been in this position for nearly a hundred years, and every ascended immortal had always treated him with utmost respect. Today, someone actually wanted to use him as a hunter.

But he couldn’t just watch him starve to death. Fairy Gu had told him to take good care of this guy before she left. Thinking of that fierce woman, the old man couldn’t help but shiver.

“Here, take these.” The old man flipped his hand, and a few fruits appeared in his palm.

William Thompson’s eyes lit up green as he howled and snatched the fruits from the old man’s hand, gobbling them down in a few big bites.
