Chapter 6

This is definitely a treasure. Whether it's its various strange properties in the past, or the newly revealed page of talisman diagrams, these are things that only exist in myths and legends—if that's not a treasure, what is it?

In the past, although he had been holding onto this treasure, it had never changed in the slightest, and he couldn't figure out any use for it. Over time, he gradually forgot about it, only keeping it out of habit for more than ten years. But now that it has changed, and even produced a page of talisman diagrams, this is absolutely wonderful.

“【文气】, there’s actually something called 【文气】 contained in antiques? No wonder this yellow paper didn’t change at all after I carried it for over ten years, but now it’s suddenly different.”

……

With joy written all over his face, Brian Carter suddenly had a flash of realization in his mind.

Why had it never changed before, but changed today? It must be because he had been involved in the antique business for several years, coming into contact with a large number of antiques containing 【文气】, which finally stimulated it to awaken.

For more than three years, he had been traveling around with Mr. Brooks, coming into contact with all kinds of ancient ceramics, furniture, jade, bronze coins, and other collectibles—many of which were probably genuine.

And as long as they were genuine, they would contain more or less 【文气】. The yellow-covered book wouldn’t absorb 【文气】 on its own, but after being immersed in such an environment for a long time, it would naturally be stimulated and awaken.

Thinking of this, Brian Carter became truly excited. If 【文气】 was attached to other things, he wouldn’t be so confident, but in the antique business, he did have some expertise.

He believed he could find genuine antiques for the yellow-covered book to absorb.

Not to mention, this 【觅文符】 also had the effect of x-ray vision, which would make his search much easier and more convenient.

So, if he wanted to further strengthen the yellow-covered book, it wouldn’t be particularly difficult.

Once again overjoyed, Brian Carter couldn’t wait to look at the talisman diagram below. The process was the same—after staring at it for a few moments, another idea exploded into Brian Carter’s mind, and he instantly grasped all the key points of drawing this talisman. He even suspected that if he had paper and brush in hand right now, he could draw a 【觅文符】 in one go.

By then, as long as he found a genuine antique, he could let the yellow-covered book directly absorb the 【文气】.

“Tsk.” With this feeling, Brian Carter immediately felt an itch to find paper and a brush.

However, he still carefully folded the yellow-covered book and put it back into the breast pocket of his shirt, buttoning it up. Every movement was as gentle and cautious as possible.

In the past few years, he often didn’t take this thing seriously, even using it for all sorts of purposes. If it weren’t for the habit of always carrying the yellow paper, and the fact that Brian Carter wasn’t psychologically abnormal, he might have even used it as toilet paper at times.

After all, everyone has a few times in decades of life when they forget to bring paper to the bathroom, and Brian Carter was no exception.

Fortunately, he never did that. Even if he had, washing it with water afterward wouldn’t have left any trace or smell, but just thinking about it was enough to make one shudder.

Although he never used it as toilet paper, Brian Carter had certainly done plenty of other things with it.

But that was in the past. Now that the yellow paper had truly revealed its nature, he once again treated it as a precious treasure, just like when he first got it as a child—if not even more so.

After finishing all this, Brian Carter let out a gentle sigh of relief, patted his chest, and took out his phone to check the time. It was just after ten in the morning, and Aunt Grace was probably still at the hospital for treatment.

“It’s still early. Should I go back and try out this 【觅文符】?”

Everything that just happened was so unexpected, and even after calming down, he still found it hard to believe. If he didn’t actually try it himself and confirm through practice that this 【觅文符】 really had x-ray vision, he still wouldn’t be able to fully believe it.

After thinking it over, he finally decided to first go buy some paper and ink, and draw a talisman to test its effect.

After all, now that he knew he had such a magical thing in his hands, not exploring all its secrets himself would be pure torture.

The materials needed to draw the 【觅文符】 weren’t hard to find—just a sheet of yellow paper and a brush. However, during the drawing process, he would need to pour all his energy, spirit, and focus into it.

He had to guide the talisman with his heart, letting all his energy, spirit, and focus merge into the talisman as he drew, in order to create a true talisman.

Because the talisman contained all of the artist’s energy, spirit, and focus, even if it succeeded, only the person who drew it could use it. If it fell into someone else’s hands, it would just be a “scribble.”

All of this, Brian Carter had already fully understood when he looked at the talisman diagram and received the information on how to draw it.

Even if he didn’t quite understand what “energy, spirit, and focus” meant, as long as he knew what it felt like, and followed the process in his mind, there shouldn’t be any problem.

After making up his mind, he immediately hurried home, and bought the necessary brush, ink, paper, and inkstone at a nearby shop.
