Chapter 10

"Alright, everyone is tired today, let's stop here for now. We'll continue the interrogation tomorrow."

Back at home, Brian Hall was still thinking about the case.

Was the micro-expression analysis wrong?

Or was there another real culprit!

With this question in mind, Brian Hall slowly fell asleep.

……

The next morning.

Huayuan Community, Room 1201.

After getting up, Brian Hall washed up, changed into clean clothes, and went downstairs for breakfast.

Brian Hall's parents also lived in this building, in Room 601.

Brian Hall's father is named Edward Hall, he is also a police officer, working at the Guang'an Police Station.

His mother, Grace Morgan, is retired and stays at home.

Brian Hall entered the house and saw his father sitting by the coffee table, drinking tea and reading the newspaper.

"Dad, haven't you had enough of the police station?" Brian Hall joked.

"What do you know, kid? You keep learning as long as you live. I'm studying national policies and actively responding to the country's call."

"Where's Mom?"

"She went to the market to buy groceries."

"What are we having for breakfast?" Brian Hall yawned.

"Go wash your hands, I'll get you some food."

"I get this kind of treatment?" Brian Hall was a bit flattered.

"Your mom said you criminal police are busy, so as a community officer, I should support your work more." Edward Hall snorted.

Brian Hall laughed, "Mom really has a high level of awareness."

"Show-off."

After washing his hands, Brian Hall went to the dining room. On the table were a plate of egg fried rice, a bowl of corn porridge, a small plate of pickles, and some braised beef.

"Not bad at all." Brian Hall was a bit hungry, took a couple of bites of the egg fried rice, and suddenly remembered something: "Dad, is this rice leftover from yesterday?"

"Overnight rice has less moisture, so it tastes better when fried." Edward Hall would cook sometimes when he had free time.

Brian Hall mused, "Overnight? So not from the same day."

"Eat slowly, there's more in the pot." Edward Hall said, then went back to the living room to read the newspaper.

With a few pieces of braised beef, Brian Hall finished the egg fried rice. He didn't even bother with the corn porridge, hurrying off to the sub-bureau.

He had a theory that might explain why the suspect's genetic material appeared at the crime scene...

Chapter 0007: Full of Doubts

Qindao Sub-bureau, Interrogation Room.

John Brooks sat in the interrogation chair, dark circles under his eyes, looking uneasy.

The interrogation was still being conducted by Brian Hall and David Thompson, with a video recorder on the table.

"John Brooks, after spending a night in the detention center, have you remembered any new clues?" Brian Hall asked.

"I didn't do anything. I was really at home on the night of June 18th, you have to believe me."

Brian Hall changed the question: "Where were you on the night of June 17th?"

John Brooks was stunned for a moment, then shook his head, "I can't remember."

"If you want to clear your name, cooperate with our investigation."

"Let me think..." John Brooks muttered, recalling for a moment, "That night, I..."

John Brooks's voice grew quieter and quieter, until the rest was inaudible.

"John Brooks, do you know what time it is? You're still hemming and hawing. Do you want to spend your next life in prison?" Brian Hall scolded.

"No, no, I'll talk." John Brooks swallowed, "On the night of June 17th, I went to get my hair done."

"Get your hair done? You're a man, what are you..." Halfway through, David Thompson realized, "You went to see a prostitute?"

"Seem... seems like it." John Brooks stammered.

"Think carefully, I want a clear answer."

John Brooks lowered his head, "Yes, I went to that kind of place."

"That kind of place, and you know to be embarrassed?" David Thompson snorted.

"I know I was wrong, I shouldn't have gone there, but I really didn't force anyone, really didn't." John Brooks shouted.

"Address."

"At the Yindu Foot Massage Parlor on Huiyuan Road."

"What was the name of the woman who did your hair?"

"Jasmine."

"Full name."

"I don't know, it was my first time there, I only know she's called Jasmine."

"If you want to clear your name, try to remember more. The more clues you provide, the more accurate our investigation will be." Brian Hall advised.

"Yes, yes."

……

After leaving the interrogation room.

David Thompson asked, "Binzi, do you really believe he's innocent?"

"First, his reaction doesn't look like a murderer's; second, aside from John Brooks's genetic material, there's no evidence linking John Brooks to this case. No tools or suspect's belongings were found at his home either."

"The murder happened on June 18th. Why did you ask about his whereabouts on the 17th?" David Thompson was puzzled.

"It's hard to say now, we need to check out the Yindu Foot Massage Parlor first." Brian Hall stroked his chin. Everything was still just his speculation.

"This foot massage parlor is involved in prostitution. Should we call in the public security team?"

Brian Hall hesitated for a moment, "Let's contact the local police station instead."

Huiyuan Road is under the jurisdiction of the Guang'an Police Station, and Edward Hall is the chief there.

Brian Hall made a call, briefly described the situation, and Edward Hall assigned a few officers to assist them in investigating the Yindu Foot Massage Parlor that night.

To catch criminals and evidence, going during the day is pointless.

……

Midnight, Yindu Foot Massage Parlor.
