Chapter 2

Below the sprite is the sprite bug, a type of sprite born from plants, with a lifespan of ten years and the ability to influence plant growth. If it encounters an opportunity within ten years, it can evolve into a sprite. As for the sprite bug itself, it is also only through a stroke of luck that one is born from a plant.

The Tulip Family has been cultivating Coral Island for over twenty years and has harvested more than a hundred sprite bugs. Counting those that have already died, there have only been a little over one hundred and fifty, and among them, only twelve have evolved into sprites.

“Sprites... It’s a pity that my predecessor was indeed disliked by the count. Even Sarah Thompson has obtained a sprite, while I have only four sprite bugs!”

At Edward Thompson’s coming-of-age ceremony, the Earl of Coral Island announced his appointment as the Baron of Flower Town and gifted him four sprite bugs.

That was all.

“Master, it’s dinner time. Shall we begin?” Butler Carter knocked and entered, bowing slightly.

“It’s already dinner time? Alright, please invite the two teachers to join me.” Edward Thompson stretched his waist in an unrefined manner. After this period of recuperation, he was feeling quite stifled.

Before long, the two teachers arrived together.

The blond man in a tailcoat was the family tutor, Henry Clark. He was already forty-five years old, a fallen lord knight who depended on the Tulip Family, mainly responsible for Edward Thompson’s academic education. Of course, his main job was as the administrative officer of Flower Town, helping Edward Thompson manage the entire town.

“Edward Thompson, you look much better. Thank goodness, I can see you running around healthy and lively again.” Henry Clark said playfully, in a very casual manner.

The other, with a stern expression and meticulous movements, was Edward Thompson’s knight instructor, Marcus.

His strength had already reached the level of Earth Knight, but he had not yet obtained a noble title. For generations, his family had served as retainer knights for the Tulip Family, and in his generation, they finally produced an Earth Knight.

Edward Thompson smiled slightly. “Since both teachers are here, Mr. Carter, please serve the meal.”

“As you wish, master.” The old butler Carter gracefully left the living room to notify the kitchen downstairs to bring up the food.

“Marcus, my body has almost fully recovered. I hope to resume my knight training lessons starting tomorrow,” said Edward Thompson.

There was no expression on Marcus’s square face. “You may.”

Seeing this, Edward Thompson smiled faintly, knowing in his heart that this Earth Knight harbored some resentment. He hoped to earn merit on the battlefield, become a lord knight, enter high society, and become a member of the nobility. But instead, he was assigned to be Edward Thompson’s knight instructor, stuck in the backwater of Flower Town.

And within the Tulip Family, Edward Thompson was notorious for being a good-for-nothing, which meant that following Edward Thompson, the chance of becoming a noble was almost nonexistent.

Soon, the old butler led the male and female servants in, carrying trays of food.

There wasn’t much to eat. The quality of life in Flower Town was very low, with little output, and Edward Thompson, as a son not favored by the count, did not have abundant supplies and could not afford a luxurious lifestyle.

Yet Edward Thompson ate very earnestly.

Transmigration is a technical skill; becoming a noble was already a stroke of great luck. One must know that in this world, aside from the nobility, most commoners are just two-legged sheep to be slaughtered.

Including his two teachers, they were all essentially his servants, and a single word from him could decide their life or death.

Chapter 2: The Snake Script Formed by Smoke

Roasted goat meat, boiled lamprey, a small portion of apple puree and pear slices, wheat beer with hops, and white bread made from fine wheat flour.

This was Edward Thompson’s dinner.

The Western-style food didn’t really suit his taste, but he couldn’t cook at all and couldn’t make the home-style dishes he liked. Moreover, in this world, it was strictly forbidden for nobles to enter the kitchen or storerooms—places meant for servants. Doing so would be a breach of noble etiquette and would be laughed at.

Of course, the royal court was an exception.

The court’s chefs and servants were all nobles from various minor lords. Edward Thompson’s father, the Earl of Coral Island, once served as a groom for the new generation Sapphire Grand Duke, responsible for feeding the duke’s beloved steed—a fine horse with dragon blood.

Even now, the Earl of Coral Island would occasionally enter the palace to serve as a groom.

He enjoyed this immensely, fearing that another noble might take his place and interfere with his close relationship with the grand duke.

Similarly, the Sapphire Grand Duke had also served as a personal attendant to the king of his suzerain state, the Iron Ridge Kingdom, waiting on him in all daily matters.

Basically, commoners are the servants of nobles, and minor nobles are the servants of greater nobles.

Only by becoming the king of a nation can one truly be the master.

“Fortunately, here in Flower Town, I am the sole master and don’t have to serve anyone.” Steven Thompson thought contentedly as he ate his less-than-ideal dinner.

The count was his father and didn’t like him, so he basically wouldn’t come to bother him.

After dinner, the old butler Carter directed the maids to clear the dishes, while the personal manservant brought water for washing up and assisted Edward Thompson in rinsing his mouth.

Once the routine was finished, Carter led the servants out. “I’ll be right outside, master. If you or the two gentlemen need anything, please just call.”
