Chapter 14

“Just something I overheard.” Yin Zhaluota’s reply was still as cool as ever. He really hadn’t gone out of his way to gossip; it was just that this matter was being talked about so much that even if he didn’t want to hear it, he still ended up catching wind of the news.

As for John Harris’s somewhat roguish style, Yin Zhaluota could only feel helpless. After being pestered by him and his streetwise ways every day for the past two years, he’d gotten used to it.

Of course, this tolerance only applied to John Harris’s particular brand of roguishness. If anyone else dared to treat him this way, even if he didn’t beat them to a pulp, he’d definitely make sure they remembered it for life.

“What are you guys talking about?” Brian Carter still looked completely confused.

“Women.” Yin Zhaluota answered with the simplest word.

Brian Carter was momentarily stunned, then glanced at John Harris beside him and smiled slightly. “Makes sense. That’s the only topic that would get him this interested.”

“Exactly.” Yin Zhaluota immediately and clearly aligned himself with Brian Carter.

“This time I’m really not excited!” John Harris’s excited expression quickly faded, replaced by a look of serious caution. He lowered his voice, as if about to do something sneaky, and said, “This new transfer student, Emily Bennett, is something else! Her grandfather is the head of one of the five major conglomerates on Earth. And coincidentally, she’s the only precious granddaughter of her generation.”

“Gold mine.” Yin Zhaluota continued with his brief and direct commentary.

“Not just that.” John Harris shook his head. “Usually, kids from super-rich families win out in terms of temperament, but aren’t necessarily that good-looking. But this girl—she’s top-notch in both looks and temperament. Lots of guys in East Asian schools see her as their dream girl. I heard that once her email address got leaked, and that 10-gigabyte mailbox actually got filled up with love letters…”

“Whoever gets her can save themselves a lifetime of hard work.” Brian Carter also got used to making brief summaries like Yin Zhaluota. Maybe that’s one reason he and Yin Zhaluota could become friends?

“Well… haha…” John Harris shook his head repeatedly. “A woman like that—would you dare to chase her? Plenty of rich young heirs have been shot down by her.”

Brian Carter just curled his lips and said nothing. A rich heiress like that really isn’t someone ordinary people can pursue.

“Qiangzi, talking behind my back again?”

Chapter 9: An Incredible Aura

Some say a beautiful voice is like an oriole’s song. Brian Carter always thought that was just a metaphor, but when he heard the girl’s voice from behind, he realized such voices really do exist in this world.

John Harris was jolted as if struck by lightning when he heard the voice. The usually suave superstar turned his head slowly with a slightly embarrassed smile and said, “Emily, you’ve got me wrong this time. I was just promoting your magnificent and radiant image.”

The girl stepping out of the futuristic flying saucer-shaped magnetic-levitation Ferrari would catch anyone’s eye. Paired with the convertible’s upper half made of semi-transparent composite material, the whole scene was dazzlingly bright.

Brian Carter had only ever seen such a car online. There were only ten of them on Earth, known as the limited edition of limited editions, priced at thirty-five million US dollars. And even then, money alone couldn’t buy one—without a powerful background, even having the cash was useless.

“Is that so?” Emily Bennett walked over to John Harris, looked Yin Zhaluota and Brian Carter up and down, then casually patted John Harris on the shoulder. “What’s this? Not going to introduce your friends? We’ll be classmates from now on.”

Brian Carter was a bit surprised. This girl, whom John Harris had described as a goddess, didn’t put on any airs at all and seemed very easygoing. Judging by John Harris’s reaction, he’d probably suffered at her hands before—maybe he was one of the many suitors who’d been rejected?

Could someone as sharp as John Harris really get the short end of the stick? Brian Carter just shook his head indifferently. A goddess like her was from a world too different from his own—no point thinking about her.

“Haha, my oversight!” John Harris said in a gentlemanly way, pointing to Emily Bennett: “This is Miss Bennett, a perfect blend of beauty and intelligence.”

Emily Bennett rolled her eyes at John Harris. This guy’s personality hadn’t changed a bit! Only someone like him would hide the fact that he’s the second young master of the mighty Super Beast Group and come here to live as an ordinary student, wanting to experience a normal life.

“As for this one—” John Harris draped his arm over Yin Zhaluota’s shoulder. “The future of Earth’s—maybe even humanity’s—number one master of potions, the second most handsome guy at Jianzhong after me, the cool guy Yin Zhaluota. Jianzhong’s second campus heartthrob, with a female fan club second only to mine, currently single.”

“Hello.” Emily Bennett nodded graciously at Yin Zhaluota. “Nice to meet you.”

“Likewise.” Yin Zhaluota nodded politely, though his attitude didn’t show much happiness or sincerity.

“And this one is even more impressive.” John Harris patted Brian Carter on the back. “The only person in the whole school who can get Yin Zhaluota to make friends on his own initiative. Currently single, no girlfriend.”
