“Ah!! It’s a misunderstanding! My brother-in-law and my sister are just messing around! Everyone, back to training!! Training!” George King waved his hand, and the group burst into laughter, turning around to head back.
Edward King finally realized what was happening, her face instantly turning as red as a tomato. She also realized that her actions might have caused her brother to misunderstand, so she hurriedly let go of Grace Miller’s sleeve as if it were on fire. Watching George King and the others walk away, she grew anxious.
“George King!! Stop right there! It’s not what you think!!”
“Huh?” George King turned around in confusion, pausing for a moment.
Grace Miller’s lips curled into a smile.
“Well, that’s that. I’ll be going now.”
“Don’t you dare!!” Edward King was terrified that the person who had embarrassed her so much would take the chance to run away. In her panic, without thinking, she grabbed Grace Miller’s sleeve tightly again.
From a distance, George King saw this scene clearly, and an ambiguous expression appeared on his face.
“Let’s go, let’s go!!! My little sister is shy!! Training! Off to training!”
“Captain! Congratulations!!”
“Congrats to you too!!”
“The captain’s little tiger at home has finally settled down!”
“The weather’s nice today!! After training, I’ll treat everyone to a celebration!”
“Oh oh oh oh~~~”
“Long live the captain!!”
The basketball team’s laughter and teasing echoed continuously.
Edward King’s face was so red it looked like it might start bleeding. She hurriedly let go of Grace Miller’s sleeve, pointing at Grace Miller, shaking all over with anger.
“You… you…!!” She couldn’t get a word out for a long time, just kept swallowing her breath.
Grace Miller looked at her with a beaming smile.
“I told you not to regret it. See for yourself.”
Edward King started trembling even more.
“You… just you wait!!” She finally managed to get a breath out.
“What’s the point? I already said I have something to do.” Grace Miller quickly calculated the time in his mind. If he left now, he should still be able to catch up. If something really happened, it would be a good chance to test the results of his recent training.
“Then I’m off.” Grace Miller wore a smug smile as he turned and walked toward the snack street. This time, Edward King didn’t dare grab him again, and could only watch helplessly as he swaggered away at a brisk pace.
……
Snack Street, as the name suggests, is a street full of snacks. Because it’s located between two middle schools, most of the customers on the street are students.
One food cart after another, the stalls lined up in two straight rows, with students crowding in the middle. Most people had some kind of food in their hands—grilled skewers, grilled squid, stinky tofu, and the like.
Some student couples who didn’t dare show affection openly at school fed each other their snacks here without a care. The stall owners shouted loudly, the occasional sound of a bicycle’s electronic horn rang out, and all kinds of noises blended together, making the place rather noisy.
The afternoon sun had lost most of its heat, and the coolness of evening swept over everyone with the breeze, carrying with it the mixed aromas of various snacks.
Grace Miller walked into Snack Street, glanced around, but didn’t see any sign of Lily Scott. The street was crowded, people coming and going, and with such a large flow of people, it would be very difficult to quickly find his target.
“If I can’t find her, so be it. I’ll just stroll around. If I run into her, great; if not, it’s her own bad luck.” Grace Miller thought to himself. He casually blended into the crowd and walked forward.
Everyone’s life has its own trajectory. Before taking action, one should consider the possible consequences. If you can’t bear them, don’t do it. This was Grace Miller’s principle. He only chased after her out of a bit of regret. If he had to go out of his way for Lily Scott, that would be impossible according to his values.
He wandered aimlessly along Snack Street, the aroma from the barbecue stalls constantly wafting into his nose. Suddenly, his stomach growled.
“Uh, I’m hungry.” Grace Miller glanced blankly at a nearby fried potato stall, his hand in his pocket moving slightly.
“Not enough money. I only have fifty cents left—this little bit…” Grace Miller withdrew his gaze helplessly. Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a short, middle-aged man. The man had a sinister look, and despite the hot weather in May, he was wearing a grayish coat, clutching something tightly to his chest, making it bulge. Grace Miller also noticed that the man tried his best not to bump into anyone as he walked.
“This guy is really suspicious.” He noticed that the spot under the man’s coat was sticking out, and a corner of a familiar-looking black backpack was peeking out.
Just as the man was about to pass by Grace Miller, Grace Miller pretended to be looking at the snacks around him and subtly moved in the man’s direction.
“Bang!”
The two of them collided hard.
“Ouch!” Grace Miller cried out, pretending to be hurt.
In the instant he bumped into the middle-aged man, he caught a clear glimpse of what the man was holding—a somewhat worn black backpack. A faint scent of a young girl drifted into Grace Miller’s nose.
“It’s Lily Scott’s backpack. I really did just run into her by chance.” Grace Miller shook his head slightly, marveling at his own luck.
