Chapter 16

Unfortunately, just as William Carter had expected, the knocking on the door had absolutely no effect.

Of course, he didn’t pound on the door like he had the previous night, as if it were his enemy—after all, the person inside was just a little girl who liked to sleep in.

So, with a helpless sigh, he placed his palm on the doorknob and pushed the door open.

Faint daylight filtered in through the window behind the curtains, making everything in the room appear even more hazy.

In the dimness, he could only vaguely make out the slender figure sleeping soundly.

The soft light fell on her youthful face, making her expression look peaceful and lovely.

William Carter stopped at the doorway, his hand groping along the wall for the light switch. Only after turning on the light did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Thankfully, Ethan Lane’s sleeping posture wasn’t as bad as he’d imagined, and she didn’t have the bad habit of kicking off the covers—what a relief.

For some reason, he felt a faint sense of disappointment—actually, it wouldn’t matter if a kid kicked the covers a little, there’s nothing to see anyway, and if you’re wrapped up too tightly you can’t breathe…

Alright, enough of these random thoughts, time to continue the arduous “wake-up mission.”

William Carter looked down at the “obstacles” on the floor—various clothes the little girl had tossed aside—helplessly bent down, picked up the clothes Ethan Lane had thrown all over the floor, and tossed them back onto her bed.

Even though she was almost sixteen or seventeen, Ethan Lane still hadn’t changed her habit of throwing things everywhere. It was truly exasperating.

On the bed, Ethan Lane was curled up under the covers, sleeping sweetly, completely unaware of William Carter’s arrival.

Her long black hair, no longer tied up, was scattered messily across the pillow, and her teeth unconsciously bit into the pillow she was hugging, leaving a patch soaked with drool.

As if she were dreaming of something nice, she smiled faintly in her sleep, a hint of childishness at the corner of her lips.

Standing at her bedside, William Carter looked at her dazed sleeping face and helplessly scratched his nose. “Still just a kid.”

He reached out and nudged her shoulder, raising his voice a bit: “Time to get up, time to get up!”

After calling for quite a while, Ethan Lane only curled up tighter, mumbling something indistinctly, then turned over and continued sleeping in another direction.

“Tsk…” William Carter’s expression twitched, not knowing what else to do.

With no other choice, William Carter could only reach out and tug at her cheek. “Hey, Ethan Lane, get up! Get up!”

After tugging for a while, the sleeping Ethan Lane seemed to get annoyed. She angrily grabbed William Carter’s hand, let go of the pillow with her teeth, and then bit down hard!

William Carter fell silent for a moment. He hadn’t expected Ethan Lane to retaliate so decisively even in her sleep.

It was just her subconscious reaction; she didn’t bite very hard, just clamped his thumb in her mouth.

He tried to pull his finger out a couple of times, but couldn’t get it free. Ethan Lane only bit down harder.

With his finger in her mouth, she sucked on it as if she were eating a popsicle, and he could even faintly feel her tiny tongue gently licking…

Chapter 8: You Must Have Been a Dog in Your Past Life…

So, what’s the situation now?

To put it in one sentence, it would be: I was trying to wake up a little girl in the morning, but since she wouldn’t wake up, I pinched her cheek, and accidentally got my finger bitten and can’t pull it out, so now I feel really awkward and don’t know what to do.

Honestly, you’d run out of breath trying to say that all in one go, and if you don’t break it up carefully, you’d have no idea what it means—a really long sentence.

In short, the “complexity” of the situation is obvious.

And the “victim” of this incident—William Carter—his expression was also growing more and more complicated.

Looking at the little girl who wouldn’t let go of his finger, he sighed helplessly: “Ethan Lane, you must have been a dog in your past life… No, you’re still one in this life.”

He tried to pull his finger out again, but not only did it not come free, Ethan Lane bit down even harder.

“No choice, you brought this on yourself.”

Taking a deep breath, William Carter raised his other hand and pinched her nose. Let’s see you keep biting now!

He’d actually learned this trick from her—he’d been tormented by her like this plenty of times while he was sleeping.

Sure enough, this move was super effective. Before his eyes, Ethan Lane’s expression grew more and more strained as she struggled to breathe.

Finally, she opened her sleepy eyes and stared blankly at William Carter in front of her.

There was a moment of silence as William Carter let go of her nose, helplessly meeting her gaze.

Once she was a little more awake, he tried to pull his finger out again, but still couldn’t get it free.

With a serious face, he said sternly to Ethan Lane, “This… doesn’t taste good.”

Finally realizing what she was biting, Ethan Lane dazedly opened her mouth, and the saliva-covered finger was finally freed by William Carter.

Truly something to celebrate, truly something to celebrate.

But looking at the two neat rows of teeth marks on his finger, William Carter could only sigh helplessly.

Still not quite recovered from this bizarre situation, Ethan Lane stared at him blankly. “Why are you… here?”

As if she couldn’t make sense of this strange situation, Ethan Lane rubbed her eyes and asked in confusion.
