Chapter 9

"Little girl, whether your father stole anything or not will be thoroughly investigated by us police officers. The police will not wrong a good person. We are just taking your father in for questioning."

Hearing the officer's words, Brian Carter's gaze fell on the middle-aged man. He was wearing a security guard's uniform shirt, his face ashen, and there was a look of panic on his face.

"I didn't steal anything. I didn't steal that gold. Please don't make things difficult for my daughter."

"If you didn't steal anything, why did you run?"

One of the officers snorted coldly, and his question left Eric Foster speechless, because he knew there was no way he could clear himself of suspicion, so he could only run.

"Come with us to the club and explain everything clearly. If you hand over the gold, your sentence will be lighter."

Several officers pressed down on Eric Foster and were about to leave. The little girl cried and screamed, refusing to let them take him, but how could a child possibly stop the police? Watching her father about to be taken away, the little girl sat right down on the ground, crying like a little ball of tears.

The officers were troubled as well. Naturally, they couldn't lay a hand on the little girl, but they also couldn't let her interfere with their work.

"Little sister, don't cry. Big brother believes your father is innocent."

Just as the officers were wondering what to do, Brian Carter walked up to the little girl, gently patted her head, and spoke.

"You're a bad person! You're the one who got my dad in trouble!"

When the little girl saw Brian Carter, she grabbed his outstretched hand and bit down hard.

Brian Carter frowned, but didn't pull his hand away. Only after the little girl let go did he give a wry smile and say, "Trust me, big brother will make sure your father comes back."

The little girl's tear-reddened eyes looked at Brian Carter with suspicion. After hesitating for a moment, she finally stopped crying, but still turned her head away, ignoring Brian Carter's outstretched hand.

Seeing the little girl stop crying, Brian Carter smiled and looked at the officers, asking, "Officer, just out of curiosity, what exactly is he accused of?"

"Embezzlement—he stole gold jewelry from Baoyuxuan." Knowing that it was Brian Carter who helped them catch Eric Foster, the officers' attitude toward Brian Carter was fairly polite.

"Stole gold jewelry?"

Brian Carter's gaze fell on Eric Foster again. It seemed that Eric Foster was a security guard at Baoyuxuan. But how could a security guard have the opportunity to steal gold?

Moreover, anyone planning a theft would think about their escape route in advance. Whether to destroy evidence or prepare to run, they wouldn't have their daughter with them at the scene.

"You say he stole gold—do you have any evidence? It can't be easy for a security guard to steal gold, can it?"

"He was in charge of guarding that batch of gold. Who else could it be? If Boss Cai didn't trust him, how could he have stolen it?"

One of the officers looked at Eric Foster with disgust, and from his words, Brian Carter more or less understood the situation.

Eric Foster was the head of security at Baoyuxuan, and he had worked there for over ten years. Other than the boss, he was the most senior person at Baoyuxuan.

Because he had worked there so long, the boss trusted him a lot. Three months ago, Baoyuxuan received a batch of gold jewelry, which they planned to sell during their anniversary celebration. Normally, it was locked in a safe on the second floor.

Baoyuxuan had four security guards, but only Eric Foster could go upstairs. He also had a key to the room with the safe, because every night, the jewelry from the showroom had to be put away in different safes in that room, with both the manager and the head of security present for the handover.

The boss of Baoyuxuan had been abroad for a while and only returned today. But when he opened the safe containing the gold jewelry, he found it was gone.

Only the boss had the key to the safe, but both the boss and Eric Foster had keys to the room. So, naturally, Eric Foster became the prime suspect.

As for how Eric Foster could have stolen the gold without the safe key, the officers had a simple explanation: he must have seen the boss enter the code when opening the safe, or he managed to crack it.

The gold jewelry was stolen, and Eric Foster was suspected. When Boss Cai saw that Eric Foster refused to admit it, he called the police. When the police arrived, Eric Foster was just about to run away with his daughter, which made the officers even more convinced of his guilt.

If he wasn't guilty, why would Eric Foster try to run?

After understanding the whole story, Brian Carter pondered for a moment. After a while, he spoke with certainty: "Although I don't know who stole the gold jewelry, I can say for sure—it definitely wasn't him."

Chapter 4: Blue with White—Wrongfully Imprisoned

Brian Carter's gaze fell on Eric Foster. He had his reasons for saying this.

Seeing the officers' puzzled expressions, Brian Carter smiled and said, "Although I've never been to the scene, let's look at it from another angle. If I were Eric Foster, and I stole the gold jewelry, I would know the crime would be discovered. In that case, why wouldn't I run away immediately after stealing it, instead of waiting until after the crime was discovered to flee?"
