Chapter 20

"Am I... am I in the underworld now?"

Grace Miller walked over and lightly kicked him in the waist, saying:

"Look up—are there such beautiful girls in the underworld?"

Robert Morgan wiped away the water, his gaze gradually clearing. He glanced at Charlotte Harris and said with a smile:

"So the fairy is still here, which means this lowly one must not be dead."

Charlotte Harris turned and walked to the side, still feeling a bit of secret joy in her heart.

Grace Miller kicked Robert Morgan again. Now that he had no immortal energy in his body, the kick wasn't very strong, and he said:

"Hey, since you know this lady is a celestial descended to the mortal world, how dare you sneak a peek with your mortal eyes? Isn't that blasphemy and a grave offense?"

Robert Morgan shuddered, thinking this was a serious accusation, and hurriedly prostrated himself on the ground, saying:

"This lowly one knows his mistake. Please, immortal lord, give me a chance to make amends."

Grace Miller sat on a chair, acting all high and mighty, and said:

"Alright, I'll give you a chance. Tell me everything about Shi Dacheng's private residence: when does he return home? What guards are there? Who else is in the house? How many cockroaches are being kept?"

"Yes, yes, I'll tell you everything. The chief supervisor... the eunuch leaves the palace and returns to his private residence on the last day of every ten-day period, and returns to the palace at dawn the next day. The guards are usually fifty from the Wuyi Court and fifty warriors from the Imperial Stables."

"Imperial Stables? Why is the department in charge of horses also handling security?"

"Yes, yes, the immortal lord is right to ask. The Imperial Stables were originally responsible for looking after the emperor's horses in the palace, but later, I don't know which emperor added knights to the department. Gradually, the knights became soldiers, and the soldiers became warriors, turning into a force controlled solely by the palace eunuchs, not under the Ministry of War or the Five Armies Command. They're quite arrogant."

Robert Morgan was a guard from the Wuyi Court and had always been at odds with the warriors of the Imperial Stables, so he did his best to belittle them.

The Sword God's memory bank only had a general idea of this world's history, not the details, so Grace Miller didn't mind and said:

"Hmm, a hundred guards. Their skills are about the same as yours, right?"

Robert Morgan chuckled and said:

"Forgive me for being bold, but most of these hundred guards aren't as skilled as I am. However, there are a few who are true experts among experts."

"Even better than those 'Finger' guys like Peng Chengguo?"

"Stronger than Lord Peng."

Grace Miller was about to order Robert Morgan to get to the point when Charlotte Harris, standing to the side, interjected:

"Are you talking about the 'Blade, Spear, Sword, and Halberd' of the Imperial Stables?"

Robert Morgan didn't dare look up at Charlotte Harris, but gave a thumbs up and said:

"The fairy lady is indeed knowledgeable. That's right."

"'Blade, Spear, Sword, and Halberd'—what's that? Nicknames?" Grace Miller asked.

Charlotte Harris frowned slightly and said:

"Supposedly, they're the four top experts of the Imperial Stables, even more formidable than the Ten Fingers of the Wuyi Court, said to be invincible under heaven. But they rarely appear in the martial world, so who knows if it's true."

Robert Morgan said:

"The four of them don't all protect the chief supervisor at once—usually only one accompanies him home. And no matter how skilled they are, they're still mortals. They couldn't possibly withstand a single finger from the immortal lord."

Grace Miller waggled his right index finger, which had not a trace of magical power, and said smugly:

"Of course. As the saying goes, 'The better you are at kung fu, the sooner you die.' What's the use of martial arts against an immortal?"

"Yes, yes, the immortal lord's golden words are enlightening. This lowly one feels as if awakened from a dream and has benefited greatly." Robert Morgan flattered him with his words, but in his heart, he wondered where such a 'saying' came from.

"Continue. Who else is in Shi Dacheng's private residence?"

"The chief supervisor has a younger brother, Shi Dajin, who usually lives in the house. But the one actually in charge is Michael Bolton, an old family servant. He also has a house of his own in the east city."

Grace Miller said:

"What a mess! A eunuch has a private residence outside the palace, and his servant has another private residence outside of that. It's all so chaotic."

"Yes, yes, corrupt officials embezzle public funds for personal gain. We guards see it all the time but dare not speak out."

"Where is Michael Bolton's house?" Charlotte Harris interjected.

"At the very end of Tie Mao'er Alley in the east city. The plaque says 'Scholarly Family.' It's not far from the Shi residence—easy to find."

"A servant of a eunuch, even worse than a eunuch, dares to call himself a 'Scholarly Family'?" Grace Miller suddenly felt he was a true gentleman, and even Robert Morgan seemed honest and simple by comparison. So that's who the phrase 'shameless' was made for.

"Yes, yes, that Michael Bolton can't even read a single character. It's laughable."

"Hmm, what else?"

"Uh, when the chief supervisor returns home, the entrance to the alley is guarded by Wuyi Court, and inside the residence, it's the Imperial Stables' responsibility. Five men per shift, eight shifts in rotation. Those off duty—the Wuyi Court guards stay in the front yard, the Imperial Stables warriors in the back. That's about it."

Grace Miller glanced at Charlotte Harris, who nodded, indicating that this information was sufficient. Grace Miller then asked:

"Not bad. Last question: how many cockroaches are in Shi Dacheng's private residence?"

"Ah? That, I haven't counted. About..."

"About? I want an exact number."
