Chapter 7

"Sorry, I was copying some stuff. Have you been waiting long?"

Brian Clark really wasn't late on purpose. After lunch, he went to the mall, then after returning to school, recorded a song demo, copied it to a USB drive—he was busy the whole time and didn't have a moment to rest.

"Not long, I just got here too. You don't have to rush like this."

Grace Carter pulled up the corners of her mouth in a slight smile and shook her head.

How strange. Usually, they're often late when meeting up, but today, why did they arrive so early?

Brian Clark handed over the USB drive in his hand and reminded, "Take this USB drive. It's the song we'll be singing for our first session. I recorded my demo. I'll send you the lyrics on WeChat later. Practice when you have time—this song really suits you."

"Okay, I'll work hard to practice."

Grace Carter carefully put away the USB drive.

Evening breeze, exercise, music, romance...

The university track at night is the most youthful place.

After leaving campus for many years, Brian Clark suddenly wanted to take a walk on the track. Turning his head with a smile, he said, "Let's walk around the track together, help digest after dinner."

"Okay."

Grace Carter nodded and followed Brian Clark's steps. The distance between their shoulders was like that of a boy and girl on their first date.

Hmm, real couples always sit on the grass.

Although they were walking side by side, Brian Clark always felt there was a gulf between them.

According to the memories of his predecessor, although she was introverted and lacked confidence, she used to talk quite a bit when with him, sharing daily anecdotes—definitely not like she was now.

But it was understandable. It was the predecessor who had distanced the relationship to this point. Having things this way had both disadvantages and advantages for him—the advantage being more room to improve his system attributes.

There's plenty of time ahead, so let's take it slow and get to know each other again.

"Gēzi."

Brian Clark couldn't help but softly say, "Sorry about before."

"What?"

Grace Carter was stunned for a few seconds, blinking her almond-shaped eyes as she asked.

"Nothing... it's nothing."

Brian Clark shook his head and stretched lazily.

As for apologizing, even though he didn't owe it for his predecessor's actions, after receiving such a big favor, he did owe the girl.

He didn't know if she heard it, but at least saying it made him feel better.

"By the way."

Brian Clark changed the subject: "There's another important thing—we need to come up with a name for our duo. Do you have any good ideas?"

Grace Carter pursed her lips, looking troubled. "I'm not good at naming things... You can pick a name you like, I'm fine with anything."

After hearing her, Brian Clark remembered that even her WeChat nickname was just a pigeon emoji, so he didn't expect much. "Then I'll suggest a few, and you can pick the one you like, okay?"

"Okay."

"Alright."

Brian Clark had actually thought of a few that afternoon. "What do you think of the name 'Dragon and Phoenix Legend'? Give me your honest opinion, don't just brush me off."

Grace Carter was silent for a while, then looked up and quietly asked, "Isn't that name a bit outdated?"

Basically, it's just tacky...

Brian Clark scratched his head and asked again, "How about 'Dragon and Phoenix Myth'?"

"Feels pretty much the same as the last one..."

"Hmm... What do you think of 'Phoenix Perched on the Wutong Tree'?"

"What does that name mean?"

Grace Carter thought for a moment, then asked in confusion.

"Ahem."

Brian Clark cleared his throat and explained, "The phoenix is a rare and auspicious creature. Since your name has the character for 'pigeon' in it, I thought of the phoenix. My name has 'lin' (forest), so I likened myself to the wutong tree. I hope that after we form a duo, we can both improve and evolve, and work together as harmoniously as the phoenix and the wutong tree—a good omen."

Hmm, as a transmigrator, comparing himself to the wutong tree isn't over the top. Even comparing himself to a money tree wouldn't be a problem.

Grace Carter's eyes lit up, and she nodded with a smile. "I like this name."

"Great, then that's settled."

Brian Clark made the decision on the spot. After walking a bit more, he casually asked, "Gēzi, graduation is coming up. Do you have any plans for the future? Or do you have any dreams?"

Grace Carter was silent for a moment, then replied, "Grandma said she wants me to become a music teacher."

I wasn't asking your grandma...

Brian Clark wasn't too satisfied with this answer. "You don't have to listen to the elders' career advice. Can an official from this dynasty be beheaded by a sword from the last? Whether you listen to them depends on whether their thinking keeps up with the times. What do you want for yourself?"

Grace Carter lowered her head and muttered softly, "I'm fine with anything, I don't have any dreams..."

Brian Clark frowned and blurted out, "If a person has no dreams, how are they any different from a salted fish?"

"Mm..."

Grace Carter nodded, not arguing.

Her lack of confidence was written all over her face.

Brian Clark spread his hands, unable to help but complain, "Gēzi, can't you be a bit more confident? You're quite pretty, why do you always keep your head down? Are you afraid of people looking at you? With your back hunched like that, all your poise is gone."

"Mm..."

Grace Carter nodded, obediently straightening her back, still not arguing.

Brian Clark was speechless, pursed his lips and said, "Maybe you should get a part-time job at a gas station. That kind of work would suit you."

"Huh, why?"

Grace Carter blinked her almond eyes, asking very seriously.
