Chapter 1

Book One: The Evil Monarch Emerges

Chapter One: The Evil Monarch, Jun Xie

  Ethan Brooks suddenly woke up.

He didn’t even wait to open his eyes. Instinctively, his right hand slapped the ground, ready to leap up. This was a place of danger, life and death hanging by a thread—he could not linger!

That was his first thought upon awakening, a reflex almost ingrained in an elite assassin!

His body sprang halfway up, but suddenly his arm went limp, completely unable to support his own weight. With a thud, he crashed heavily back down!

For a moment, Ethan Brooks was utterly shocked. What was going on?! Then he suddenly realized that beneath him was a soft bed! Looking around, he found himself in a lavishly decorated room, but it was empty except for a square table and the “giant bed” he was lying on. It truly was a “giant bed”—at least seven or eight people could sleep on it without feeling crowded!

What was happening? Wasn’t I in the middle of a fight? How did I end up on a bed??

At this moment, Ethan Brooks’s mind was still stuck in the moments before he lost consciousness—or rather, lingering on the very last thoughts of his previous life!

  ※※※

Ethan Brooks was an assassin, and not just any assassin, but an exceptionally skilled gold-ranked one. Since his debut, in five years he had never failed a single mission, boasting a one hundred percent success rate unmatched by anyone before him! Thus, he became the number one ranked assassin on the assassin leaderboard, and the name “Evil Monarch” soared to the top of the underworld’s rankings! He also held another record: for three years running, the bounty on his head had dominated the world’s most-wanted list!

It wasn’t that no one dared to take the job, but that no one could. No one had the ability to kill this near-legendary miracle assassin!

Many top-tier assassins had accepted the task, but they all died, while the Evil Monarch lived on!

A tycoon from Country Y once offered a hundred million dollars for “Evil Monarch’s” life. Two assassins, both world-class and as famous as the Evil Monarch himself, took the job, but three days later, both died mysteriously. After that, no one was willing to take on this death mission, everyone kept their distance, and even though the bounty kept increasing, no one dared to accept it.

No matter how wonderful money is, if you don’t have your life to enjoy it, what’s the point!

The name “Evil Monarch” became a taboo on the underworld bounty list!

And the name “Evil Monarch” struck fear into the underworlds of every nation! Many people knew of the “Evil Monarch,” but not a single person knew what he looked like, or what kind of person he truly was!

Ethan Brooks’s personality matched his name—one word: evil! Two words: very evil! Three words: extremely evil!

He always acted alone, never teamed up with anyone, and didn’t have a single friend! Moreover, when taking jobs, he not only scrutinized the client, but also picked his targets!

If he didn’t like a client, no matter how much money they offered, even if it was to kill a defenseless beggar, he would refuse without hesitation. But if he thought someone deserved to die, he would act on his own, then go to that person’s enemy’s doorstep to demand payment—and they had no choice but to pay. Often, these people had never even hired him, or even heard of him before…

Rumor had it… once, he killed a notorious human trafficker but couldn’t find the victim’s family; in the end, he asked a little girl who had been rescued for a dime as his fee, insisting: I’ve never done a job for free, and I never will…

His personality left his master and fellow disciples utterly speechless…

Legend has it… once, he removed all the toilet paper from the restroom before his master went in. When his master asked him to bring some, he took the opportunity to demand a labor fee of five hundred thousand dollars—and his master actually paid up…

As for why his master gave in…

It was because that day, he had called all his fellow disciples to the restroom door, and even invited a few beautiful women to watch…

But he considered his greatest flaw to be that he was simply too compassionate. As an assassin—especially a top assassin with blood on his hands—this claim had made countless people scoff!

But this guy’s claim of compassion actually had some basis!

At home, he couldn’t stand the rich bullying the poor, especially officials oppressing commoners; abroad, he couldn’t stand anyone bullying his fellow countrymen! Because of this “patriotic” streak, who knows how many huge disasters he had stirred up.
