Chapter 5

Four bowls of wontons were, of course, not enough to fill them up. With the sun half set, the group began to head back.

【Beginner Mission: Help Kevin Clark become the class monitor of Software Engineering 1801】

  【Reward: Beginner Gift Pack】

Watching the dialogue box in front of him gradually fade away, Yvonne Harris looked utterly disheartened.

  What a mess...

What the hell kind of bullshit missions are these?

But fortunately, this sudden system took away more than 99% of his worries.

  A system!

  It really is a system!

Although he had no idea what would be inside the beginner gift pack once he opened it, at least it brought a ripple to his otherwise ordinary life.

  Maybe...

He might even have a chance to become a winner in life?

If that were really the case, let alone helping that jerk become class monitor—even if he had to eat something disgusting, he’d just hold his nose and accept it...

Well, maybe he’d still hesitate a bit about that.

So, all the way back to the dorm, Yvonne Harris was thinking about how to complete this damn mission, barely paying attention to what his roommates were chatting about beside him.

At this moment, Brian Cooper suddenly moved closer to him without drawing attention, and spoke in a voice only the two of them could hear.

“Are you planning to vote for him?”

Yvonne Harris glanced at this handsome guy and shot back a question.

“If not him, then who? If he doesn’t even get four votes, wouldn’t that be super awkward?”

Brian Cooper didn’t say anything, but Yvonne Harris could see right through his thoughts just by looking at his expression.

“You’re planning to run for class monitor too?”

Without answering directly, Brian Cooper replied nonchalantly.

“Who wouldn’t want to give it a try? They say being class monitor is a great way to build character.”

The speaker was casual, but the listener took it to heart.

Hearing this, Yvonne Harris immediately guessed his intention, and instantly became conflicted.

  What now?

If this guy runs too, Kevin Clark is definitely going to lose!

At the very least, this guy would probably sweep all the girls’ votes.

And not just the girls—if it weren’t for the system mission, and he had to choose between the two, he’d probably vote for this guy too.

It was a bit annoying, but whether in his past life or this one, it just so happened to be an era where looks mattered.

  Speaking of looks...

Just thinking of that greasy, shiny side-part and the old-fashioned POLO shirt, Yvonne Harris pressed his forehead in frustration.

  What a headache!

Chapter 003: Reverse Canvassing, the Most Lethal

  Dorm balcony.

Leaning against the railing, Yvonne Harris held his phone, talking to his family.

“So, how was your first day?”

  What a headache...

Yvonne Harris originally wanted to say that, but he was afraid his dad would worry, and even more afraid he wouldn’t be able to explain clearly and end up being sent to a mental hospital, so he sighed and said,

  “It was good, everything’s fine.”

Except for dinner—I didn’t really get full.

“How about your roommates? Getting along well?”

“Pretty well. Everyone in our dorm is talented, except for me.”

There was a moment of silence on the other end.

After a while, his dad spoke again.

“How about your living expenses? Is 800 enough?”

“It’s enough, it’s enough. If it’s not, I’ll figure something out, maybe get a part-time job or something.”

“Focus on your studies. If you need more, just let me know.”

Yvonne Harris smiled and declined, “No need, no need. I can manage. Besides, freshman year isn’t that busy. Doing some work to build experience is better than just playing games in the dorm, right?”

His dad was silent for a moment.

“Take care of yourself, then... Want to talk to Mom for a bit? She just went for a walk, should be back soon.”

“Maybe tomorrow night. I’m really tired today. I’ll take a shower and go to bed. Say hi to Mom for me. I’ll hang up now.”

After hanging up, Yvonne Harris took a deep breath, exhaled slowly toward the balcony, then closed his eyes and began to ponder that earlier feeling.

When he first got back to the dorm, he’d already been thinking about everything that had happened to him today, but just as he was starting to figure things out, his dad’s call interrupted him.

Recalling that earlier feeling, he silently tried saying “system” in his mind.

Just as he was thinking how silly he must look and opened his eyes, lines of azure blue light, like AR projections, instantly replaced the deep night sky, casting themselves into his widened pupils in surprise.

  【Host: Yvonne Harris (Soul-bound, cannot be unbound)】

  【Talent: Good Luck (0)】

【Attributes: Locked, will unlock after completing the beginner mission】

  What the hell?

This cheat only activates after the beginner mission is done?

Or is he still in the trial period, and the so-called beginner mission is a test?

Looking helplessly at the attribute panel in front of him, Yvonne Harris tentatively reached out and tapped the “Good Luck” in the talent section.

Almost at the same time, a line of explanatory text popped out from the right side of the icon.

【Good Luck (0): As long as you accumulate good deeds, maybe something good will happen?】

  Yvonne Harris: ...

How is this any different from saying nothing at all?

And why is it phrased as a question?
