Chapter 12

He just stood there quietly, silently, standing outside the door.

It...

Seemed to be waiting for him to open the door!!

‘Something’s wrong!’

Feeling a chill in his heart, Henry Clark slowly released the doorknob and stepped back.

Step by step, he kept retreating.

Until he stood in the center of the room, his hand slipped into his pocket, gripping the reinforced white stone.

He had almost been fooled!!

That voice, just now, that voice was exactly the same as Dr. Carter's!!

Damn it!!

Henry Clark's heart was full of panic, an indescribable sense of suffocation made it almost impossible for him to make a sound.

His chest felt heavy, so heavy.

His panic wasn’t just from being scared by these unknown things, but even more from the lingering fear.

The fear of almost being tricked into opening the door.

He stared fixedly at the crack in the door, not daring to look away for even a second.

Very soon, perhaps realizing it hadn’t fooled him, the figure outside the door silently moved to the right and left.

Just as quietly as it had first appeared, the figure’s departure was also extremely silent, without a single footstep.

It was only after the other had been gone for a long while that Henry Clark slowly relaxed from his tense emotions.

He gasped for breath, still not daring to open the door, but instead quietly walked to the window.

Through the gaps between the thick wooden boards nailed over the window, he carefully peered outside.

From the window, he could see the area outside the door at an angle.

He’d been outside once before, so he knew that outside this house was a narrow gravel path.

The houses in this village were all located on either side of this gravel road.

The house he was in was one of them.

Now, standing at the window, Henry Clark quietly slowed his breathing and looked outside through a crooked gap in the boards.

But as soon as he looked—

Outside the gap, Dr. Carter’s face was staring at him expressionlessly.

The other was actually standing at the window too, watching him as he secretly peered out!!

Chapter 6: Danger Four

Their eyes met.

The stuffiness in Henry Clark’s chest exploded all at once.

A wave of intense nausea and discomfort surged up from his stomach.

His abdomen convulsed, pain shot through him, his whole body began to tingle and stiffen uncontrollably.

An indescribable terror surged from his heart, flooding his entire body.

Around his eyes, black veins began to bulge and branch out like tree roots.

The veins grew thicker and thicker, as if they were about to burst.

But just then, the reinforced white stone in his pocket suddenly released a wave of icy energy, rushing into the outside of his thigh.

This surge of energy was like a steel nail, fiercely stabbing into Henry Clark’s stiffening body.

It yanked him out of his paralysis.

Bang!!

His legs gave out, and he collapsed weakly to the ground, finally breaking eye contact with the other.

Huff!

Huff!

Huff!

Lowering his head, Henry Clark gasped for breath, feeling the stiffness in his body quickly eased by the reinforced white stone in his pocket.

A strong sense of having survived a disaster welled up in his heart.

Not daring to look outside again, he quickly pulled out the reinforced white stone and saw that the red symbols on its surface were glowing with a very faint red light.

If you didn’t look closely, you wouldn’t notice at all.

‘What a treasure!’ he thought, feeling incredibly lucky that he’d chosen to reinforce this white stone first.

Ever since Little Grace used it to save him, he’d realized how important this thing was.

Fortunately, he hadn’t been wrong.

Sitting on the floor, slowly backing away from the window, Henry Clark didn’t dare look around anymore. Who would have thought that in this haunted place, even a glance could be dangerous.

‘But why... why is it that Little Grace and Dr. Carter, when they go out, don’t run into danger?’

‘Do they have some other means of protection?’

A trace of doubt rose in Henry Clark’s heart.

But soon, the exhaustion overwhelmed him again.

Too weak.

This body...

Clutching the reinforced white stone tightly in his palm, he crawled back onto the bed, wrapped himself in the stinking gray-white quilt, and after waiting a long while to make sure nothing outside could get in, he finally relaxed a little and drifted off to sleep again.

He didn’t know how much time had passed.

Maybe a few hours, maybe a whole day.

When Henry Clark woke up again, Little Grace was already busying herself around the room.

“You, awake?” She noticed the movement, quickly turned her head, and looked happily at Henry Clark on the bed.

“Come eat.” Soon, she brought over a bowl of black mush and started feeding Henry Clark.

Unconsciously, Henry Clark swallowed the last spoonful of mush, and his body felt much better.

“Is there any more?” he asked.

Little Grace got up and rummaged around for a while, but this time, it seemed there was none left.

She searched for quite a while but couldn’t bring back any more black mush.

“It’s all gone,” she soon returned to the bedside, a little dejected.

Henry Clark sat up, slowly got out of bed, walked to the corner with the supplies, and saw the wooden bucket she’d been searching through.

It seemed to be where the raw materials for the black mush were kept.

It was a kind of mixed-color powder, with a little residue left at the bottom of the bucket.

He held onto the edge of the bucket and looked inside—there really was nothing left.

Gurgle~

Suddenly, a stomach growled from behind.

It was Little Grace.
