This makes no sense. Other than being born into a good family, this person is clearly useless and not worth mentioning. I have absolutely no reason to be afraid of him.
Strange, strange...
Ryan Chandler saw that Ariel Kent had quieted down, so he was about to explain things clearly to this "paranoia" patient, but out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the security guard Parker sticking half his body out of the security room, talking to a short-haired woman, and pointing in his direction, as if the target had appeared.
That's right, the gender, appearance, and height all match—it's definitely the target!
He immediately stopped worrying about Ariel Kent. This matter wasn't urgent and could be dealt with later. He headed straight for the main entrance and started greeting from afar: "Miss Murphy, hello, may I take a moment of your time?"
Chapter 3: A TV Drama Script
Ian Murphy had been busy all day and was actually quite tired. She just wanted to hurry home, soak in a nice hot bath, and get some good rest. But she was well-mannered, so even when suddenly stopped, she didn't get annoyed. She just looked at Ryan Chandler curiously and asked with a smile, "Hello, may I ask who you are?"
"Nice to meet you. I am a freelance screenwriter, my name is Ryan Chandler. Pleased to make your acquaintance." Ryan Chandler followed local customs, bowing formally and properly. Ian Murphy was momentarily taken aback. A freelance screenwriter? Isn't that just a nicer way of saying unemployed?
She was thinking about this, but still politely returned the greeting, introduced herself, and then asked curiously, "Mr. Chandler, is there something I can help you with?"
"I wouldn't dare say 'help.' I just wanted to ask, is Miss Murphy preparing to strive for a producer position?" Ryan Chandler looked at Ian Murphy with great focus, but his tone remained very polite.
Ian Murphy gave him a somewhat odd look, not sure how he knew, but it wasn't a secret, so she smiled and said, "That's true, but is there a problem with that?"
Tokyo Broadcasting TEB was preparing to launch a satellite channel, so naturally, the number of programs would increase, requiring more producers. This was a rare opportunity, and she didn't want to miss it. At the very least, she wanted to give it a try—many people had the same idea, so it wasn't unusual at all.
Ryan Chandler had learned this by chatting with the security guards. Though unremarkable, they knew plenty of inside information. He asked with concern, "Of course there's no problem, but isn't Miss Murphy's experience still a bit lacking? Are you confident you can succeed?"
Even in the 21st century, Japanese workplaces still had a strong seniority system, not to mention the 1990s. As far as he knew, Ian Murphy had only been an intern and then an employee for four or five years. Wanting to be in charge of a program at this point was indeed a bit too soon and made her seem too young.
What's more, she was a woman. In the Japanese workplace of the 1990s, it was even harder for women to rise to the top.
Hearing his question, the smile on Ian Murphy's face faded, her brows furrowed slightly, but she quickly smiled again. "I do need to learn more, and my chances of success aren't high, but it's up to me to try. I want to give it my best... Mr. Chandler, is there a particular reason you're asking all this?"
She was starting to get a little impatient. Ryan Chandler took a deep breath and said seriously, "I can help you, Miss Murphy."
Ian Murphy was taken aback, and for a moment, her polite, reserved smile disappeared—was this young man an affiliate of some faction within Tokyo Broadcasting TEB? The child of some big shot?
Had her abilities been noticed by someone high up, and now they wanted to recruit her into their faction?
Was it the newspaper faction, the local faction, or the banking faction? The newspaper faction was most likely; she'd heard they were short on grassroots production staff...
In an instant, Ian Murphy became cautious. She came from an ordinary background and was troubled by her lack of factional support—no one to speak up for her on key matters. She immediately asked politely, "When you say 'help,' what do you mean...?"
Ryan Chandler glanced around and saw his "ex-girlfriend" Ariel Kent not far away, looking suspicious—she found it odd, since her ex-boyfriend had always been very well-behaved in front of her and never dared to show any attitude—so he smiled and said, "This isn't the best place to talk. If you don't mind, may I buy you a cup of coffee, Miss Murphy?"
This was right in front of Tokyo Broadcasting TEB's main entrance, with people coming and going—not a good place for a conversation. Ian Murphy thought for a moment and quickly agreed. Although the other party was a stranger, the area around Tokyo Broadcasting TEB was bustling and safe, so there was no danger. No matter what he had to say, listening wouldn't hurt, and if it turned out to be an opportunity, that would be a big win.
To be even safer, she smiled and suggested a location: "Let's go to COKC, it's quieter there."
Ryan Chandler clenched his fist lightly. He had made several plans and prepared five different approaches just to get a chance for a long conversation, but he hadn't expected Miss Murphy to be so agreeable and to accept so easily.
He didn't know why, but as long as it went smoothly, that was good!
He immediately gestured for her to go ahead, and walked with Ian Murphy toward the café, leaving his "ex-girlfriend" Ariel Kent behind, still confused—wasn't he here to pester me?
Did that loser already move on to someone else?
Ugh, how shameful!
