Chapter 13

“I know this person—he’s classified as an S-level dangerous individual. Unless you have hundreds of well-trained special forces armed with guns, cornering him in a dead end, there’s barely a chance to take him down.” A sharp young man stood up. “Who killed him?”

“The person who killed him is called Ethan Thompson.”

Ethan Thompson’s profile appeared above.

As soon as Ethan Thompson’s family background was revealed, everyone fell into deep thought.

“If he were an ordinary person, we could have him assist with the investigation. But his identity is special, so let’s send someone to approach him.” The man presiding over the meeting waved his hand. “Anyway, Duan Zhanlong has bounties on his head from more than twenty countries, totaling tens of millions of US dollars. How should we write the report? Should we say our security system took him down, or that it was an individual?”

In the city, a quiet residential complex.

Ethan Thompson took out his key and opened the door. There wasn’t a speck of dust on him—he looked just like a white-collar worker coming home after working late into the night.

But behind him followed two stunning women, Brian Carter and Grace Fisher.

“Why are you following me?” He opened the door and frowned. “It’s over, our paths have diverged, let’s go our separate ways.”

“Don’t be so distant…” Brian Carter smiled. “Even though you acted decisively today, this is still a society ruled by law—there will be trouble. I’ve already reported the incident to the authorities, and they might question you. With me as a witness, I can help you handle a lot.”

“No need, I’ll handle it myself.” Ethan Thompson raised his hand, and the two women immediately felt a powerful force surge toward them, making them step back involuntarily.

Bang!

The door closed.

“Damn!” Grace Fisher almost stomped her foot. “He’s so cold! But honestly, he’s cool, really manly.”

“You’re not falling for him, are you?” Brian Carter wasn’t angry, but smiled sweetly. “Don’t you have a boyfriend, Henry Ford?”

“I’m just curious about him.” Grace Fisher looked around the complex. “This place is nice, very elegant. The price must be over 100,000 per square meter, and people here don’t rent out their apartments. That means he bought it himself—this man is rich.”

“No matter how rich he is, can he compare to you?” Brian Carter snapped her fingers. “I want to see what his daily life is like. Maybe I can gain insight into a higher level of martial arts from his routines. He’s ten times stronger than my master—I wonder how he trained his skills?”

“That’s easy. I’ll look into the developer of this complex—they must have business dealings with my dad. Finding out what Ethan Thompson does every day should be a piece of cake.” Grace Fisher thought for a moment. “What worries me now is who my dad has offended, to the point that someone like Zhanlong was sent to kidnap me. From what they said, even more dangerous people might come. Can you really protect me?”

Chapter 11: Invulnerable

“If it’s someone at Zhanlong’s level, even ten of me couldn’t protect you. Honestly, there aren’t many people in the world who could. Of course, Ethan Thompson is one of them.” Brian Carter pondered for a while.

“My dad recently negotiated a project abroad worth about two billion US dollars. He won it through bidding.” Grace Fisher thought aloud.

“A two-billion-dollar project? That’s enough to drive countless people crazy. On the international black market, it only takes tens of thousands of dollars to have someone killed.” Brian Carter looked around warily. “Let’s go, hurry home. I’ll take you back. From now on, you’d better not show your face in public.”

“But I feel safer here.” Grace Fisher looked a bit frightened. “Do you really think I’d be safe at home if someone like Zhanlong came after me?”

“Not safe at all.” Brian Carter said firmly. “Not just your home—even a military compound or a top official’s residence, he could sneak in. You’re right, the only truly safe place is by Ethan Thompson’s side.”

“Sigh, I’ll try to talk to him and see if he’ll protect me.” Grace Fisher didn’t dare go home.

“There shouldn’t be any trouble for now. People like Duan Zhanlong are rare. Go home first, then talk to him.” Brian Carter said. “Call your dad and have him send more bodyguards to pick you up. Even if numbers don’t guarantee safety, it’s better than nothing.”

“Now I realize that some people alone are worth a thousand troops.” Grace Fisher looked at the tightly closed door, wishing Ethan Thompson would open it.

But the door never opened, remaining shut.

Inside.

Ethan Thompson ignored the two girls and sat cross-legged.

After his battle with Duan Zhanlong, he had gained new insights into martial arts. He needed to calm his mind and reflect, since opportunities to fight such masters to the death are rare—maybe only once or twice in a lifetime.

In a mysterious state, he experienced a flash of enlightenment. The room was pitch black, but when he opened his eyes, it was as bright as day.

Every inch of muscle on his body was slowly writhing, like insects in spring emerging from the earth, full of vitality.

A mouse-like qi bubble swelled again from his belt meridian, this time traveling throughout his body except for his head.
