Chapter 5

"That's right, it was a tip from a concerned citizen. He said he would keep following, and we've tracked his phone—he's at the station right now."

After a brief exchange, a tall man in a navy windbreaker, wearing silver-rimmed glasses, pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. His right hand rested on the sword at his waist as he spoke in a slightly deep voice:

"Surround the entire area. Team One, coordinate with the Metropolitan Police and stand by on the perimeter, keeping a close eye on anyone suspicious. Team Two, take over the station's surveillance room. Team Three, go inside and search for the target. Stay sharp! Don't miss a single corner. Remember! The target is very likely a psychic! Be extremely careful."

"Yes, sir!"

With crisp, decisive responses, the members of the Third Investigation Unit flowed into the crowd in front of the long-distance bus station like countless streams merging into a river.

......

"Please, make way! My husband is having a heart attack—we're tourists in Tokyo. Can you tell me where the nearest hospital is?"

"Honey, honey, say something..."

At an emergency exit in the station that the Third Investigation Unit hadn't yet taken over, a family of three appeared before the station security staff who had just received orders and were waiting in place.

A middle-aged woman in a red wool coat was struggling to support her pale-faced husband, her face full of anxiety and on the verge of tears. Beside her, their daughter was helping out, dragging a suitcase.

"Uh, what?"

A few of the station security guards were momentarily stunned.

They had just been told to wait at the exit and keep a close watch for any suspicious single girls, waiting for the Metropolitan Police to take over. They hadn't expected to run into something like this at such a critical moment.

"Squad leader, what should we do?"

"Should we just let them... wait?"

As they were discussing, the woman, her voice choked with sobs, spoke up again, "Why are you stopping me? My husband has already passed out! If something happens, who will take responsibility? Move! Let us through!"

Perhaps in her panic she lost her grip, and the middle-aged man being supported suddenly stumbled and collapsed to the ground, causing chaos all around.

Seeing the man lying motionless on the ground, his face deathly pale, and the woman's shrill voice ringing in their ears, the security guards were at a loss.

When illness strikes, it hits like a landslide.

A heart attack is no joke.

"Squad leader... this..."

"Let them out. Anyway, our orders are to watch for single girls, and this is a family of three..." As he spoke, he suddenly worried about being held responsible later, so he quickly added, "Send someone to follow them... yeah, go help out."

Hearing this, the woman quickly expressed her thanks. A tall, burly security guard squatted down, hoisted the middle-aged man onto his back, and stood up. The station exit gate opened with a click.

Many of the stranded travelers behind them saw what was happening and understood that special circumstances called for special measures—no one said a word.

Just as the family of three was about to leave the station, a sudden, abrupt teenage voice rang out from behind.

"Why?! I have an emergency and need to get home too—why do they get to go out first?"

As soon as the words fell, everyone's eyes immediately turned toward the speaker.

......

At the station exit, Charlotte was just about to slip through the gate with the couple she was controlling when the sudden voice behind her made her body tense up. The pointed ears under her hood almost popped out!

Stiff! They're stiff!

Her ears are stiff!

Who is so annoying?!

Charlotte turned her head and saw a high school-aged boy stepping out from the crowd, standing in front of the security guards and complaining loudly while pointing at them. For a moment, even the security guard carrying the man stopped in his tracks.

Tap tap tap—!

Suddenly, the pointed ears under Charlotte's hood twitched slightly as the sound of hurried footsteps reached her ears from not far away. Her expression instantly turned anxious.

Crap!

She had to escape quickly.

Anxious, Charlotte made a snap decision, turned around, and strode toward the boy who had just caused trouble. As she approached, she suddenly stepped forward, staring straight into his eyes and lowering her voice:

"Charlotte V. Prudence commands you!

Step back!"

.....

Edward Harris had actually already noticed the group from the Metropolitan Police approaching to take over, but he was alone and outmatched. The girl he had been watching was even more likely to be the psychic, so he tried to "outsmart" her with this unreasonable tactic.

But what he didn't expect...

The girl in front of him acted decisively, walking straight up to him. Her bright, silvery eyes, like those of a cartoon character, locked onto his, and the strange red pupils in the center seemed like bottomless black holes, instantly swallowing him whole.

Edward Harris's mind buzzed, and his consciousness suddenly felt as if it were falling into a pitch-black abyss, sinking... sinking... his body already completely out of his control.

Crap!

He'd let his guard down and fallen for it!

But in that instant,

Deep within Edward Harris's soul, there was a sudden, thunderous boom!
