A serious rear-end accident occurred on the overpass, and cars lined up in endless queues, completely stuck on the overpass, unable to move forward or backward.
“Hey, young man, have a cigarette. No one could have predicted this kind of thing. Just be patient and wait. I’d say you won’t be going anywhere for at least twenty minutes.” The experienced driver, seeing Emily Clark’s anxious expression, pulled out a cigarette and handed it to Emily Clark, trying to comfort him.
A trace of gratitude appeared on Emily Clark’s anxious face. He waved his hand and said, “Thank you, but I don’t smoke.” As he spoke, Emily Clark glanced around again and said, “Sir, why don’t you just let me off here?”
“Young people are always in such a hurry. Not to mention it’s not safe to walk on the overpass—even if you could, it’d take at least twenty minutes to reach the next exit. By then, the cars will be moving again.” The driver shook his head.
Emily Clark knew the driver made sense, but how could he stop worrying about that chubby guy? A strange glint flashed in his eyes. Emily Clark pulled fifty yuan from his wallet and handed it to the driver, saying, “Keep the change. I’ll get off here!”
The driver was about to persuade him again, but saw that Emily Clark had already gotten out of the car. In the darkness, he moved like a ghost and actually vaulted over the guardrail of the overpass.
The driver stared in shock, eyes wide, and only after a long moment did he come to his senses. He hurriedly opened the car door and got out, looking around, but there was no sign of Emily Clark anywhere.
“Could it be that there really are people in this world who can leap over roofs and walk on walls?” The driver muttered to himself in disbelief, holding the fifty yuan bill.
At this moment, Emily Clark had climbed over the guardrail and was clinging to the concrete pillar of the overpass, quickly crawling down to the ground like a gecko. Fortunately, the cover of night kept him from being noticed.
Emily Clark brushed off the dust, looked up at the overpass, a trace of sadness flashing in his eyes, then disappeared into the night, hurrying toward the East Bus Station.
There was no other way—the overpass was paralyzed, causing a complete traffic jam on the surface roads.
At the East Bus Station, the bald man turned and viciously kicked David Sullivan in the stomach. David Sullivan immediately clutched his belly and sat on the ground, unable to get up for a long time.
The bald man still wasn’t satisfied and kicked again, knocking David Sullivan over and pinning him under his foot. His eyes gleamed fiercely as he glared at David Sullivan, saying, “If your so-called brother doesn’t show up in ten minutes, I’ll break your pig legs.”
David Sullivan shivered all over, lying on the ground and turning his face to look into the distance—the direction of Datang New Village.
“Bro, hurry up and come, or I’m done for!” David Sullivan silently pleaded, pitifully.
“Ah, my brother’s here!” David Sullivan cried out excitedly, his eyes unknowingly growing moist.
Not far away in the darkness, a thin figure was running toward them. Under the dim streetlights, a delicate, handsome face gradually came into view.
Chapter 7 Brothers
The bald man ignored Emily Clark’s approach, his foot still pressing down on David Sullivan’s face, squashing his chubby cheeks out of shape.
“Kid, did you bring the money?” The bald man looked at Emily Clark’s somewhat thin frame and delicate, handsome face, and asked slowly, his face full of contempt.
Emily Clark glanced at David Sullivan, and after making sure he was all right, slowly swept his gaze over the four men in front of him.
“Let my friend go first,” Emily Clark said calmly.
Although his cultivation had made some progress and taking down the three men in front of him wouldn’t be a problem, Emily Clark wasn’t confident he could guarantee that the chubby David Sullivan underfoot wouldn’t get hurt.
“Pretty boy, who the hell do you think you are, daring to bargain with our Baldy?” the red-haired thug cursed at Emily Clark, pointing at him.
In the darkness, a cold glint flashed in those deep eyes.
But Emily Clark didn’t make a move, only looked calmly at the bald man.
“Didn’t expect it—you may look like a pretty boy, but you’ve got guts and loyalty.” The bald man clearly didn’t take Emily Clark seriously. He curled his lip disdainfully, then withdrew his foot and kicked David Sullivan’s chubby body, cursing, “Get the hell out of here!”
Ignoring his pain, David Sullivan scrambled and crawled over to Emily Clark’s side.
Seeing the battered and miserable David Sullivan reach his side, Emily Clark breathed a sigh of relief, then turned his gaze back to the four people in front of him.
“Kid, I’ve let your friend go. Now hand over the money!” The bald man, seeing that Emily Clark had no intention of taking out any money, said impatiently.
“I didn’t bring any money,” Emily Clark shrugged, his gaze growing cold and menacing.
David Sullivan’s face instantly turned pale, while the bald man and his three companions’ expressions changed dramatically.
“You’re fucking looking for trouble!” the red-haired thug cursed, stepping forward and kicking at Emily Clark’s stomach.
“Red Hair, let’s talk—” David Sullivan shouted anxiously, but before he could finish, Emily Clark had already moved like lightning. His five fingers turned into an eagle’s claw, and with a snap, he gripped the red-haired thug’s ankle like a cold iron clamp.
“Get lost!” Emily Clark shouted coldly, flinging his hand. The red-haired thug spun 180 degrees in the air and crashed hard to the ground, clutching his right leg and howling in pain.
The bald man, the green-haired thug, and the voluptuous woman all turned pale, finally realizing they’d run into someone tough.
