Chapter 5

So amazing! Emily Thompson's mouth dropped wide open—he was stunned by the conclusion he had just reached. Isn't this basically the Aladdin's magic lamp?

Without another word, Emily Thompson put the black jade ring back on, steadied himself, and began experimenting. While wildly imagining, he shouted with all his might, "RMB... RMB... RMB..."

Five minutes passed, and Emily Thompson was seeing stars from shouting so hard. Not only did no RMB appear, not even a scrap of paper showed up. Could he have guessed wrong? He glanced at the emerald wine gourd sitting on his desk and dismissed his doubts. On second thought, maybe there was a problem with some part of the process...

Since this black jade ring can sense my thoughts, maybe I can also sense the "thoughts" of the black jade ring? With this new angle in mind, Emily Thompson took action.

The moment Emily Thompson whimsically tried to communicate mentally with the black jade ring, a whole bunch of strange objects suddenly appeared before his eyes.

I want that jade pendant, Emily Thompson thought, and as soon as the thought formed, he snapped back to himself to find an ancient, uniquely shaped butterfly jade pendant in his hand.

A flash of inspiration hit him, and Emily Thompson shouted excitedly, "I get it... I get it..." If it weren't for the soundproofing, people might have thought someone in his house was being slaughtered.

Emily Thompson rushed to his computer desk, skillfully opened Qidian Chinese Network, which he had set as his homepage, and clicked on the Xianxia category in the library. After flipping through the settings of several Xianxia novels, Emily Thompson's eyes went wide, almost sparking with excitement. Turns out being a Qidian fantasy novel fan really has its perks—an ordinary person probably couldn't have figured out the mystery so quickly.

Emily Thompson was so excited he was about to jump for joy. He had really struck gold this time—the black jade ring on his finger was basically something that only existed in legends or Xianxia novels: a storage ring!

Chapter 3: Heavenly Dao Foundation

A vermilion pill the size of a longan; a dragon-shaped white jade bottle containing nearly a hundred pea-sized pills; a scroll made of some unknown, leather-like material; a butterfly-shaped jade pendant; a gourd of fine wine; and half a room full of mysterious medicinal herbs that probably wouldn't even be found in a medical encyclopedia.

These were all the items Emily Thompson had taken out from the black jade ring.

At this moment, Emily Thompson felt a bit frustrated. He hadn't expected that, even though he had figured out how to use the storage ring, he could only actually retrieve a few items, despite seeing so many things inside the ring.

What on earth is going on? Is there anything more painful in this world than seeing something but not being able to touch it? Like entering a treasure mountain and coming back empty-handed!

It was one o'clock at night, and Emily Thompson was still pondering this headache of a problem. The storage ring's space was just too abundant—just the pile of gold sand stacked like a small mountain and the hundred or so pigeon-egg-sized gems of various colors had left Emily Thompson dumbfounded, not to mention the various magical treasures and flying swords sparkling with fantastical light.

After racking his brains and several failed attempts, Emily Thompson finally gave up on trying to find answers from the black jade ring and instead turned his attention to the items he had managed to retrieve, hoping to find some clues there.

He picked up this, put down that, and finally, Emily Thompson's gaze settled on the scroll made of some unknown material. The scroll was densely covered in tiny writing, so small that even with Emily Thompson's excellent 2.5 vision, he had to use a magnifying glass to read it clearly.

After more than an hour of painstaking reading, Emily Thompson finally finished all the content on the palm-sized scroll.

From the tiny script on the scroll, Emily Thompson learned that the original owner of the ring was someone named Henry Scott, said to be an elder of the Xuanyuan Sect. As he was about to ascend to immortality, he wanted to leave something behind for future generations, so he wrote this scroll at the place of his final ascension and placed all the magical treasures, elixirs, and various odds and ends he had crafted throughout his life into the storage ring, burying it deep underground, saying it was for a fated person. The black jade ring also had a very elegant name: "Shenghan Ring."

Besides this, the scroll also contained a cultivation method for becoming immortal called "Heavenly Dao Record," but it wasn't complete—only the opening section, also known as "Heavenly Dao Foundation."

"What the heck, that's it?" Emily Thompson angrily tossed the scroll far away, grumbling to himself. After all that reading, there wasn't a single mention of how to actually retrieve the items from the Shenghan Ring.

As for cultivating to become immortal, Emily Thompson had no interest at all. Enjoying the pleasures of the modern world was definitely more fun than spending all day cultivating, only to ascend to some unknown world. This guy Henry Scott is really something—if you're going to give the ring away, why not at least include instructions on how to use it!

So frustrating! The image of the mountain of gold sand and pigeon-egg-sized gems in the Shenghan Ring flashed through his mind again. Emily Thompson shook his head hard a few times, then went to the bathroom to splash some water on his face.
