Chapter 14

This scene happened so suddenly that Ethan Brooks was completely stunned. He had been on the mountain for nearly four months and had caught quite a few pheasants, but this was the first time he had encountered something like this. Especially when he looked at the pheasant’s now-exploded backside, Ethan Brooks’s face was full of astonishment. He hurriedly looked around, but everything was quiet, with no sign of anyone nearby.

“What’s going on?” Ethan Brooks shivered. The pheasant had died so miserably, especially with its bloody, mangled rear end. One could imagine how much pain it must have suffered before dying.

Ethan Brooks took a deep breath, suppressing his inner tension. The pheasant’s death was just too strange, too tragic. Ethan Brooks even felt a chill running up from his lower back.

“Something’s not right.” Ethan Brooks immediately threw away the pheasant with the exploded backside and quickly took out the mirror and spirit stone from his clothes pocket. He remembered that before the pheasant started acting strangely, something in his pocket had suddenly heated up.

“It can’t be the spirit stone…” Ethan Brooks stared fixedly at the bronze mirror, his heart racing, his eyes shining with a strong light.

“Could it be…” Ethan Brooks’s hand trembled as he held the bronze mirror. At this moment, he couldn’t care less about the pheasant or looking for the chubby kid. Instead, he grabbed the mirror and rushed into the forest as fast as he could. He wanted to find another wild animal to see if the culprit behind the exploded pheasant’s backside was really this mirror.

As he ran, it wasn’t long before a roe deer appeared right in front of Ethan Brooks, staring at him blankly. Soon, its eyes flashed with a fierce light. As Ethan Brooks approached, he immediately shone the mirror at it.

The roe deer’s previously dazed expression changed instantly. Its whole body leapt up, letting out a heart-wrenching, miserable scream as it tried to escape. The sound was indescribable, as if it was in excruciating agony. Just hearing it, one could imagine the extreme suffering. But Ethan Brooks clearly saw that as the roe deer jumped, its backside seemed to be struck by an invisible force—twice in quick succession. Its screams rose and fell, and before it even landed, its rear exploded with a bang, and it died convulsing.

Ethan Brooks stared blankly at the dead roe deer, then looked at the mirror in his hand. After a long moment, his expression showed unprecedented excitement and exhilaration.

“A treasure, this must be a treasure!!”

“It’s just… this treasure is a bit strange, it likes to blow up the butts of wild animals…” Although Ethan Brooks was a bit puzzled, excitement far outweighed confusion at this moment. He didn’t care why this treasure was so odd; instead, he felt an urge to try it out on other wild animals.

Chapter 0007: I Want Spirit Stones!

As he walked along, Ethan Brooks grew more and more excited. The path he took was a bloody one…

Dozens of wild animals’ backsides had been blown open, staining the ground with blood.

“Bang.” Up ahead, a rather furry wolf, in the midst of a piercing, miserable howl, was struck three times in the rear by an invisible force. By the time it finally exploded, its entire backside was a bloody mess.

“Boom.” A huge eagle swooping down to hunt in the forest didn’t even have time to take off. Its tragic cry sounded as if it was experiencing the worst nightmare of its life, and its rear exploded instantly.

“Bang, boom.” That was a tiger as big as two men, pouncing at Ethan Brooks from the forest. But while it was still in midair, its terrifying roar turned into a miserable scream. With a wail, half its rear exploded in a spray of blood and flesh. Maybe because its fur was so thick, it actually exploded five times in a row.

“A treasure, this is a powerful treasure.” Before he knew it, dusk had fallen. Ethan Brooks was so excited he could hardly contain himself. Looking at the bronze mirror in his hand, he realized that nearly a hundred fierce beasts had had their butts blown up by this mirror today.

Fortunately, there were many desolate mountains here. Otherwise, if all these beasts had been concentrated on one mountain, the place would have been drenched in blood.

“But this mirror doesn’t work on everything. Earlier, I tried it on a python and a river fish, but it had no effect on creatures with scales. The more fur an animal has, the stronger the mirror’s power.” Ethan Brooks had experimented many times that day and also discovered that the mirror was useless when kept in his storage pouch; only when held in his hand did it work wonders. He even had a strange feeling that the bronze mirror in his hand was even more excited than he was when blowing up the animals’ butts. Even the rust on it seemed to be melting, as if it had never been so thoroughly unleashed in countless years.

As dusk approached, after a whole day, Ethan Brooks had already walked beyond several desolate mountains. Now, as the night wind blew, Ethan Brooks took a deep breath, feeling excited as he prepared to return to his cave dwelling along the original path. After all, there were many wild beasts in these desolate mountains, and Ethan Brooks had even heard that sometimes there were demon beasts cultivating here. So, although he was excited, he knew it was dangerous.

On the way here, he had to search for wild animals, so he couldn’t move quickly. But on the way back, focused on hurrying, Ethan Brooks sped through the mountains, moving swiftly among the desolate hills. Before long, the bright moon hung high in the sky, and with only three more mountains to cross before reaching his cave, suddenly, a wave of hot, foul-smelling wind rushed at him. Ethan Brooks stopped in his tracks, his heart skipping a beat, and he quickly retreated without hesitation.

Roar!

A low roar that shook the surroundings echoed almost at the same time as Ethan Brooks retreated. With the howling hot wind came a fierce beast about the size of a person, looking like a monkey. Its eyes were blood-red and filled with ferocity, its body covered in extremely thick fur, some of which even dragged along the ground.
