Chapter 7

Such mugwort, from sprouting to maturity, is steeped in yin energy and is highly sensitive to it. When it comes into contact with yin energy, it feels cold—the denser the yin energy, the colder it gets, like a small ice cube. That’s why it’s called ‘Ice Pellet’ instead of mugwort.

Moreover, the human mouth is also very sensitive to hot and cold, so as soon as you hold the mugwort ball in your mouth and come into contact with yin energy, you can sense it.

Furthermore, mugwort, together with calamus, pomegranate flower, garlic, and lily, is known as the Five Auspicious Herbs of the Summer Solstice, with the power to ward off evil and drive away misfortune. Holding an Ice Pellet Pearl in your mouth can also resist the invasion of yin evil, making it a dual-purpose herb.

The Ice Pellet Pearl isn’t some rare magical treasure, but it’s also not something ordinary people can get their hands on. Seeing David Bennett so casually give him an Ice Pellet Pearl, William Clark guessed that he either has some skills or some connections.

He guessed again: David Bennett has some connections.

Chapter 005: The Mortuary

There was no human sound in the clinic, only the rustling of plants being blown by the wind. Red lanterns swayed in the night breeze, looking like gloomy, crimson eyeballs.

After trying a few directions, William Clark found that the further northwest he went, the colder his mouth felt. David Bennett noticed this too. The two of them crouched low, gripping their knives, and silently crept to the door of the northwest wing room.

David Bennett whispered, “Do you know what this room is for?”

William Clark’s face twitched, and he said with some difficulty, “The mortuary of the clinic.”

David Bennett asked again, “Did you go in and check during the day?”

William Clark nodded, “I did. There was nothing wrong at the time.”

“There’s something wrong now.”

David Bennett sneered, lifted his foot, and kicked the door open with a crash.

Inside the mortuary, it was pitch black. After entering, David Bennett took out a fire striker and shook it, seeing thick white candles on the offering table, each as thick as a pig’s trotter.

Each of them took a white candle, and the room finally became a bit brighter.

William Clark raised his candle and looked at the two low beds against the south wall. He remembered that each bed had a corpse covered with a white cloth.

But under the candlelight, only one bed still had a bulging white cloth; the other bed was empty.

William Clark gripped his knife handle and quickly walked over to take a closer look. The corpse that should have been on the low bed had fallen to the ground, but was still covered with a white cloth.

The two of them guessed that the qi-eating ghost had possessed this corpse; otherwise, how could the corpse have rolled off the bed?

David Bennett gave him a look, signaling him to use his waist knife to lift the white cloth. He was about to act, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw the white cloth covering the corpse on the other bed twitch.

Seeing this, he grabbed David Bennett and pointed.

He didn’t need to say anything—the white cloth twitched again.

David Bennett, skilled in martial arts, flashed his knife, the tip lifting the white cloth and flinging half of it aside.

An arm was revealed.

A rat was revealed as well.

The lower half of the rat’s body was gripped in the dead man’s hand, while the upper half was crouched on the back of the dead man’s hand, gnawing at the flesh. The twitching of the white cloth was caused by it.

Seeing this, David Bennett spat, “Damn rat, you scared the hell out of me!”

William Clark let out a sigh of relief and turned back to keep an eye on the corpse on the ground. Then, suddenly, he realized, “Wait! How could a dead man catch a rat?”

‘Clang!’

A crisp sound—the long knife was drawn!

Opening move of the “Supreme Yin Soul-Cutting Blade”—the night is dark and the wind is high!

The tip of the blade swept by like a gust of wind, and the white cloth was instantly flung away, revealing the pale, delicate face of a young man beneath.

William Clark turned to David Bennett and said, “Is the qi-eating ghost—what’s wrong with you?”

David Bennett’s face looked terrible, his brows tightly furrowed, eyes wide open, as if he had seen something unbelievable:

“I’ve seen this person before—just yesterday! He’s the youngest of the Zhang family’s grandchildren!”

“Was he seriously ill too?”

“He was healthier than you!”

Hearing this, William Clark’s heart sank. “Then he couldn’t have died suddenly—was he killed by the qi-eating ghost draining his yang energy?”

If so, then this qi-eating ghost has already achieved its cultivation!

This morning, he’d asked Zhang Yuning if anyone had died last night, and that little brat actually lied to him!

If they’d known the qi-eating ghost had already become so powerful, they would have run away long ago!

David Bennett grunted, “That must be it. While the qi-eating ghost hasn’t acted yet, let’s go!”

His words seemed to be a signal. As soon as he finished, the wooden door he’d kicked open earlier slammed shut on its own with a bang!

David Bennett was annoyed—why hadn’t he just kicked the door down earlier?

A beam of moonlight drifted in through the window, and the young man on the low bed eerily stood up like a puppet on strings.

His eyes were still tightly closed.

His face was still expressionless.

There was no way this would end peacefully. David Bennett made a snap decision, drew his knife, and shouted angrily, “Old Qi, go first! I’ll take it down!”

He glared, strode forward, veins bulging on his big hand as he raised the long knife and brought it down.

In an instant, the steel blade became a meteor slash, chopping straight at the young man’s head!

I want you dead!

David Bennett was as fierce as a tiger!

And then the corpse possessed by the qi-eating ghost smashed him to the ground with the low bed.

Then the ghost threw aside the bed, eyes still closed, and lunged at his face: Don’t speak, kiss me.

David Bennett hurriedly covered his mouth and nose—this ghost was trying to suck out his yang energy!

His yang energy was reserved for his favorite at Yicui Brothel—no one else could have it!
