Several floors of tenants are preparing to move out, and moving trucks are lining up downstairs. Should I also consider moving to a new place?
Is there something wrong with the structure of this room? It’s been sunny these past few days, so why is there still mold growing everywhere?’
‘April 19th, Year 30.
Smelled a faint odor of dead rat, but couldn’t find where the rat was.’
Adam Carter kept flipping until the last page.
There was no date recorded on the last page; a line was hastily written in red pen: So many people have died recently— is the killer really human?
What does this mean?
If not human, then what is it?
A chill welled up in Adam Carter’s heart.
He closed the notebook, but the chill in his chest hadn’t faded yet. Suddenly, a thick, overwhelming stench of dead rat hit his nostrils.
An even colder presence suddenly emerged from behind, pressing tightly against his entire back!
What’s happening!
He turned his head in a hurry, and out of the corner of his eye, he barely caught a glimpse of a black shadow at his feet suddenly rising up. Then, a wave of excruciating pain, accompanied by the sound of flesh and bone being torn apart, surged straight to his head!
Adam Carter looked down—
A bloody hole had burst open in his chest.
A pitch-black hand, with ten fingers and not a drop of blood on it, was writhing in front of his chest.
Adam Carter’s vision went black.
Chapter 2: You Are—The Shadow
“You are dead.”
“This simulation has ended.”
“Score: None.
Comments: You wasted your own talent.
Reward: None.”
“The following items can be brought out of the simulation game this time. You may spend a certain amount of Yuan Jade to select and bring out some of these items.”
A dial over two meters in diameter floated in the darkness. Around the dial, various items appeared—moldy books, a hand gripper, a water cup, and so on. As long as Adam Carter paid, he could bring them into reality.
But Adam Carter had no time to care about the dial in front of him.
He was gasping for breath, still shaken.
Even with his green Calmness talent, it only allowed him to maintain above-average discernment and thinking ability among ordinary people.
But the things he encountered in his own future had already gone beyond what ordinary people could comprehend!
“The killer!”
“The killer, the killer!”
Suddenly, Adam Carter growled several times in a low voice.
His intuition told him that the ‘thing’ that suddenly emerged from the ground and pierced his chest with one hand was very likely the killer mentioned in the future diary entries.
He recalled the last line in the notebook—So many people have died recently— is the killer really human?
The killer was very likely not human!
Adam Carter glanced at the calendar in the corner of the desk, where a date—‘April 8th, Year 30’—had been crossed out in red pen.
Today was April 9th.
Tomorrow would be the first date recorded in the notebook.
Would his own future really turn out like the simulation game?
In at least nine days, would the world change, and things beyond people’s imagination start appearing in reality?!
Adam Carter leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes.
He was still recalling the scene in the game where his chest was pierced by a pitch-black arm.
That thing had suddenly emerged from the ground, like a mass of black sludge instantly forming a humanoid shape, killing him at a speed his mind couldn’t even process!
What was it?
Were there any signs before it appeared?
How could he avoid it, and could it be killed?
He remembered that in the notebook, he had mentioned smelling a faint dead rat odor, and just before being killed by that thing, he had also smelled an extremely strong dead rat stench.
The former was faint, the latter was overwhelming.
Did this mean that smelling a faint dead rat odor indicated that thing was already nearby, or had set its sights on him?
When the dead rat smell became extremely strong, would it appear? Suddenly emerging from the ground?!
Adam Carter also thought of the future room’s mold, and the window that was boarded up, letting in no light, and with the lights off.
He vaguely felt these might also be connected to that thing.
But he had only participated in one simulation, and couldn’t piece together all the clues.
After thinking for a while, he sat up straight.
Don’t wait until you see the coffin to shed tears, or only turn back after hitting a dead end—since the simulator had already given him the test paper for the future, he would do his best to score high on it.
Who isn’t a test-taker these days?
Adam Carter calmed himself and looked at the items appearing on the dial in front of him.
They were all things from his future room, but that didn’t mean every item in the future room was listed on the dial.
For example, the notebook and computer didn’t appear on the dial.
This showed that after each simulation, the items that could be brought out from the simulated world were completely random, or selected according to some rule.
Adam Carter skipped this option and said directly, “I want to start the next simulation.”
The electronic voice quickly responded: “Your wallet’s Yuan Jade balance is 3. Each personal life simulation consumes 1 Yuan Jade.”
“Would you like to spend Yuan Jade to bring real-world items into the simulation game?”
“No.”
“Loading talent…”
“Loading game…”
