Compared to the yellow and white items in the inner room, the things here were actually quite interesting. In fact, Henry Clark had come today with the intention of finding a weapon to play with, but after searching for a long time, he couldn’t find anything that felt right. The weapons here were either too heavy or too light. His strength couldn’t compare to that of the George; the heavy ones he couldn’t lift, and the light ones just didn’t feel right in his hand. In the end, he rummaged through the pile of weapons and found a pair of golden clubs. These two golden clubs had jade-inlaid handles, gold leaves set into them; green velvet cords for hand guards, and a polished bronze finish that gleamed. When he weighed them in his hands, the weight was just perfect.
Looking at their quality, a misty immortal aura emanated from the clubs, and the bronze-colored bodies were clearly forged from the primordial star iron—at a glance, it was obvious these were treasures of the immortals.
Who knows what the Old King Smith was thinking, putting such a treasure in a pile of scrap metal in this room—his judgment was certainly questionable.
Henry Clark didn’t stand on ceremony. Having taken a liking to this pair of golden clubs, he put them away in his jade gourd, planning to refine them when he had time.
After stowing the golden clubs, Henry Clark was about to search around some more, but unexpectedly, the space around him suddenly began to shake.
The surrounding seawater churned and roared, the world spun, and cries of alarm and screams rang out all around. Henry Clark couldn’t help but shake his head and smile wryly, giving up on finding anything else. It turned out that outside, after the George had obtained the Ruyi Jingu Bang, he started showing off his skills, causing chaos in the Crystal Palace. He frightened the Old King Smith out of his wits, and the Little Smith was scared out of his soul; turtles, soft-shelled turtles, and terrapins all shrank their necks, while fish, shrimp, lobsters, and crabs all hid their heads. The entire East Sea was thrown into turmoil, and Henry Clark lost all interest in further exploration.
As for what happened next, Henry Clark naturally had no desire to watch this extortion drama. With a water-parting spell, Henry Clark left the East Sea and returned to Flower-Fruit Mountain.
You should know that Flower-Fruit Mountain covers a vast area. Besides the The Carter Family on the mountain, there were also wolves, insects, tigers, leopards, muntjacs, roe deer, foxes, raccoons, badgers, lions, elephants, suanni, orangutans, bears, deer, wild boars, mountain cattle, antelopes, blue rhinoceroses, jackals, divine mastiffs... all sorts of demon clans, with a total of seventy-two caves.
Each of these seventy-two demon clans had a demon king, and by now, all acknowledged the George as their leader. Beyond these seventy-two caves, there were also many perilous mountain ridges, waterfalls, and deep pools. Some cliffs were so high and steep that even eagles couldn’t fly up to them.
Henry Clark chose one such precipitous cliff as the site for his own cave dwelling. He favored this cave for two reasons: first, it was far enough from the Water Curtain Cave to avoid attracting the attention of that complacent George; second, there was no demon king’s influence around this cliff, making it one of the more desolate places on Flower-Fruit Mountain. The cave itself was spacious, making it the ideal temporary residence.
Entering the natural cave, Henry Clark walked to the wall at the back, stretched out his left hand, and activated his mystical power. A red magic array appeared in his palm. He pressed his left hand against the wall, and when he removed it, a magic array appeared on the wall, revealing a doorway.
Henry Clark stepped through the doorway into a space that still resembled a stone cave, but the previous stone bed, stone table, and other simple furnishings were all gone, leaving only an empty space that looked rather bleak.
Apparently, even the furnishings had to be brought in by oneself!
Henry Clark shook his head with a wry smile, walked out of the doorway, selected a green stone at the foot of the cliff, and used his mystical power to carve it into a stone bed, stone table, and other necessary items. With a gust of wind, he swept all these things into the magic array space.
Chapter Twelve: Havoc in Heaven—The Spirit Bird Benefits (Part Two)
After entering the magic array, Henry Clark devoted himself entirely to cultivation.
He was different from the George. The George was a naturally gifted being, born from the gathering of heaven and earth’s spiritual energy, a true prodigy. Henry Clark, on the other hand, was just an ordinary crow. To achieve success in cultivation, he naturally had to work hard at all times.
During this period of cultivation, he came to understand one thing: cultivation is not something to be rushed, nor is there any shortcut. Perhaps you might get lucky and obtain some treasure, causing your cultivation to soar in a short time, but if your state of mind can’t keep up, if your comprehension isn’t enough, then such improvement is only superficial glory.
Previously, his cultivation had relied too much on clever tricks and lucky encounters. Now, what he needed to do was lay a solid foundation.
By his calculations, there was still some time before the George would cause havoc in Heaven. During this period, he didn’t know much about what was happening, but there was one major event: the seven great sages would become sworn brothers. Besides the George, the other six great sages were no weaker than him. Heaven only knows—if he wandered around Flower-Fruit Mountain and happened to run into one of them when they were in a bad mood, he’d be in big trouble. So, he decided to take this opportunity to improve his own strength. He didn’t expect to be on par with the George, but having a bit more ability to protect himself in the future—why not?
