Kevin Thompson began to regret his impulsiveness in leaving those two guests behind. But regret aside, he was not the kind of man to shrink back at the first sign of trouble. Even as he regretted it, he was already thinking about what dishes he should prepare next.
In fact, the reason Kevin Thompson kept those two master and servant was not out of a fit of pique, but because he felt he had been eating and staying here for free for so many days, and he ought to do something for them—whatever he could repay, he would.
It had to be said, Liam Foster was indeed a master at lighting fires. In just a short while, he had the stove burning fiercely.
Liam Foster stood up, wiped the sweat from his face with his sleeve, and seeing Kevin Thompson still standing at the table in a daze, his heart tightened and he hurriedly called out, “Young Master Li, Young Master Li.”
Kevin Thompson was slightly startled, turned around, and seeing the fire was ready, said, “Alright, you go out and attend to the guests first. I’ll bring the dishes up myself in a bit.”
Liam Foster shot Kevin Thompson a suspicious glance, his face full of anxiety, and said, “Then be quick, and if you need anything, remember to call me.”
Kevin Thompson was still thinking about what dishes to make and didn’t really listen, just nodded perfunctorily.
What a strange person.
Liam Foster scratched his head and walked out.
After leaving the kitchen, Liam Foster went up to the second floor. Seeing that the two guests had no instructions, he returned to the counter.
After a while, Liam Foster noticed there was still no movement from the kitchen. Feeling uneasy, he paced back and forth at the door, muttering to himself, “Why isn’t it ready yet?”
After another half a stick of incense’s time, Liam Foster saw that Kevin Thompson still hadn’t come out. He was now full of regret, scratching his head hard—why on earth did I let him cook? He’s a drunkard, what kind of food could he possibly make? If uncle finds out, he’ll scold me to death. Sigh, forget it, I’d better go in and check to be safe.
The more Liam Foster thought about it, the more nervous he became. Just as he was about to go to the kitchen to see what was going on, he suddenly heard Yvonne Foster’s voice from outside, “Sixth, Sixth.”
Speak of the devil.
Liam Foster shuddered all over in fright. Turning his head, he saw Yvonne Foster coming in from outside, travel-worn. He asked anxiously, “Uncle, why are you back already?”
Yvonne Foster frowned at him and asked in surprise, “When should I have come back, then?”
Liam Foster was momentarily at a loss for words. Seeing that Yvonne Foster had come alone, he quickly changed the subject and asked, “Huh? Where’s Master Zhou?”
“Master Zhou is still at the residence. I came back first to take care of things.” Yvonne Foster took a sip of tea and instructed, “Sixth, go close the door.”
Liam Foster was taken aback and quickly asked, “Uncle, you mean—?”
Yvonne Foster nodded, “Yes, Madam has decided to sell the shop.”
“What?”
Liam Foster’s eyes instantly dimmed as he asked, “Has Madam found a buyer yet?”
Yvonne Foster shook his head, “Not yet. But for the next few days, don’t do any more business. There aren’t any customers anyway. Go close the door.”
“Oh!”
Liam Foster responded, but suddenly remembered there were still two guests upstairs, and was immediately stunned, not knowing what to do.
“What are you standing there for? Go on!” Yvonne Foster saw Liam Foster still standing there in a daze and scolded him angrily.
At this point, Liam Foster knew he couldn’t hide it anymore. With a miserable face, he pointed upstairs and said, “Uncle, there are still two guests upstairs.”
“What?”
Yvonne Foster exclaimed, then immediately lowered his voice, “You fool, Master Zhou isn’t here—what are you going to serve the guests?”
“It’s all that Young Master Li’s fault. He insisted on keeping those two guests.” Liam Foster hurriedly shifted all the blame onto Kevin Thompson.
“Kevin Thompson?” Yvonne Foster asked in surprise.
“Who else but him? If you don’t believe me, he’s in the kitchen right now. Go ask him yourself.” Liam Foster said irritably.
Yvonne Foster looked at Liam Foster suspiciously, glanced at him, and said, “You stay here and watch. I’ll go check the kitchen.”
Just then, a delicious aroma wafted from the back room.
“Wow! What’s that? It smells amazing!” Liam Foster exclaimed.
Yvonne Foster also stopped in his tracks, sniffed hard, and frowned, “Could it be…”
He had barely finished speaking when Kevin Thompson came out of the back room carrying three bowls of dishes. Seeing Yvonne Foster standing in the hall, he said, “Oh? Uncle Wu, you’re back!”
Yvonne Foster nodded blankly, hurried forward, glanced at the three dishes in Kevin Thompson’s hands, and gasped. He had never seen these dishes before. In disbelief, he asked, “Did—you make these?”
Kevin Thompson nodded, smiling sheepishly, “I saw Master Zhou wasn’t here, so I took it upon myself to keep the two guests. You’re not angry, are you?”
“Wow! Young Master Li, you really can cook!” Liam Foster, having recovered, also walked over to Kevin Thompson, staring excitedly at the three fragrant dishes.
What kind of comment is that!
Kevin Thompson rolled his eyes and ignored him, then said to Yvonne Foster, “Uncle Wu, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go serve the dishes to the guests.” Although Kevin Thompson had learned to cook since childhood, this was the first time he’d ever carried dishes to serve, and he found it quite amusing.
