Chapter 1: Who’s Best at Catching Softies? A Bridge Flies Across the Han River
Han River Bridge.
Although it’s an important spot, bustling with traffic during the day, few night owls venture here, so after dark it becomes deserted, sometimes not a soul in sight. Being alone here, feeling the night breeze and listening to the gentle flow of water, it’s truly a great place to clear your mind.
“Ah! Ah! Ah!” A petite girl leaned over the edge of the bridge, shouting at the river to vent her frustrations. It was clear she was releasing stress this way, but to outsiders, it still looked a bit cringey.
Not far away, a handsome young man leaned against the railing and sighed, “Didn’t expect it, such a little thing, but quite the lungs... Tyler, go shut her up, she’s too noisy.”
“Yes, young master.” A burly Black man walked over and delivered a karate chop.
“Smack!” The girl collapsed on cue.
The young man straightened up, rubbing his forehead with his right hand: “Tyler, I think there are more civilized ways to ask a lady to be quiet.”
“Yes, young master, that’s why I used a hand chop instead of my elbow.”
“Alright... Are you sure your name is Tyler, not Pig?”
“Young master, you’ve asked that many times.” Tyler replied earnestly.
The young man sighed again, walked over, and took a closer look: “Huh? This woman looks familiar... OH SHIT... This is... So the Han River Bridge really does have a 100% capture rate?”
“Young master, is this another poor woman you dumped?”
“Shut up!” The young man’s expression turned odd. He stared at the girl on the ground for a while, then suddenly laughed: “If I said she dumped me, that’d actually be closer to the truth.”
...
Ashley Carter slowly regained consciousness, feeling dazed and confused. When she opened her eyes, a huge Black face filled her vision. Ashley Carter screamed, instinctively kicked out, and with a “bang” it was like hitting a wall—her toes throbbed with pain. Only then did she notice the ache in her neck, and as her mind cleared, she finally remembered what had happened.
She’d been venting on the bridge and got knocked out by this Black guy.
So... where was she now? Ashley Carter nervously glanced to the side, seeing only the dazzling bridge lights. The sound of water below was clear—she was still on the Han River Bridge... For some reason, Ashley Carter felt a bit relieved.
The Black man grinned widely and called out, “Young master, the little one’s awake, and she even kicked me.”
“You could’ve left out that last part, I saw it.” The young man walked over and extended his right hand: “Ashley Carter XI, I’m very sorry...”
Ashley Carter glared with anger, slapped his hand away, and gritted her teeth: “Who are you people!”
The young man said playfully, “What if I told you I was waiting here on the Han River Bridge just to catch you, would you believe it?”
Ashley Carter froze, shrank back, her eyes full of wariness.
The young man smiled, “Just kidding. I’m Brian Bennett, and my bodyguard was a bit rough—sorry for hurting you.”
A bit rough?
Ashley Carter rubbed her still-aching neck, her anger flaring up again. Knocking someone out without a word, and just calling it “a bit rough” to brush it off?
But she was smart. It was late at night, and she was a woman facing two men, one of whom was built like a tower. If things got physical, she’d definitely lose. If things went badly, tomorrow’s headlines might be “Girls’ Generation Leader’s Body Found in Han River” or something... Ashley Carter instantly imagined a bunch of horror movie scenes, shivered, and forced a smile: “Since it’s a misunderstanding, let’s just forget it...”
Brian Bennett watched her, his playful expression deepening: “How could I? If we did something wrong, we should apologize. How about I treat Ashley Carter XI to a late-night snack?”
“I said there’s no need!” Ashley Carter blurted out, then quickly held back, lowering her voice: “It’s already late, I have a schedule tomorrow...”
“What daytime schedule could Girls’ Generation possibly have these months? Oh, right, you did appear on Family Outing last month. When the whole group is on ice, you sure get a lot of gigs.” Brian Bennett said blandly, “Are you sure you want to keep sitting on the ground to talk?”
Hearing the first part, Ashley Carter tensed up—this sounded just like something an anti-fan would say. But after the second part, a rush of heat went to her head and she jumped up: “None of your business!”
Brian Bennett laughed: “That’s more like it. Auntie Kim, Pervert Taeyeon, what’s with the cautious act?”
Ashley Carter stayed silent.
Brian Bennett continued, “That’s even more like it. Auntie or pervert, that’s just your public face. Silence is the real you.”
Ashley Carter looked up sharply: “Who are you, really?”
