Chapter 19

After the four people finished donating blood one by one, the doctor put away the transfusion tubes and announced that the transfusion could stop. If nothing unexpected happened, the chief’s life should be saved.

Just as the doctor announced the end of the transfusion, the chief woke up as well. With that, the atmosphere finally relaxed. After the doctor finished treating the minor wounds of the chief and David Bailey and gave them antibiotics, declaring everything was over, the ecstatic Brian Carter began to hug and thank everyone who had come.

When the excited Brian Carter gave Catherine a big hug as the last person and expressed his gratitude, he awkwardly realized he might have hugged Catherine a bit too tightly. Embarrassed, he took two steps back and laughed sheepishly, but fortunately, Catherine wasn’t angry.

Although the chief and David Bailey couldn’t communicate with Professor Buck and the others, they still tried their best to express their thanks and offered their sincerest blessings. Amidst the laughter and joy, the professor’s walkie-talkie at his waist suddenly crackled to life.

“We’ve been attacked, we were attacked at the camp, Professor, get out of here, don’t come back, they killed everyone.”

The sudden voice was accompanied by gunfire, instantly turning the joyful scene deathly silent. The professor grabbed the walkie-talkie, just about to press the transmit button to speak, when the walkie-talkie sounded again.

“Oh God, Charlie’s been shot dead, they’re catching up to me, there are so many of them, help, no, don’t come back, this was premeditated, they’ll kill everyone, they’re probably coming for you, for God’s sake, run, get out of this damned country, God, help…”

The voice on the other end was urgent and chaotic, mixed with rapid gunfire, and finally, after a gunshot, the crying voice was abruptly cut off.

Chapter 10: A One-Man Battle

After the voice in the walkie-talkie was abruptly cut off, Professor Buck looked utterly shocked. He pressed the transmit button and shouted, “How are you now? Respond, answer me, Albert.”

There was no sound from the walkie-talkie. After waiting a moment, Professor Buck pressed the transmit button again, “Albert, answer me quickly, how are you, Albert!”

Brian Carter grabbed Buck’s wrist, then with his other hand snatched the walkie-talkie from Buck’s hand, and shouted at Professor Buck, “Professor, you should understand, Albert is already dead. Don’t waste his last effort. What you’re doing now is leading the attackers here. What you need to do most right now is to leave here immediately.”

Professor Buck shouted, “No, I have to take responsibility for my people, I have to go back, I have to return to the camp.”

Brian Carter grabbed Buck, who was about to turn and run to the car, and yelled, “Do you want to go back and die? What you should do now is not go back to the camp to die, but take the living and leave. The living are more important than the dead!”

At this moment, an armed Black guard ran over, grabbed Buck’s hand, and shouted, “Leave here, let’s get out of here, quickly, everyone in the camp is dead, you heard it just now, listen to him, the living are more important than the dead! I can’t let you die here too.”

After a painful roar, Professor Buck shouted, “We’re leaving, quickly, Brian Carter, tell your people to leave with us.”

Brian Carter shouted to the chief and the others, “Follow me, get on this thing.”

As soon as Brian Carter finished speaking, he suddenly felt a heat on his face. Instinctively reaching up to wipe his face, he heard a gunshot.

When the gunshot rang out, Brian Carter was shocked to see that a Black guard with a gun standing next to him had already fallen to the ground. Then, after another gunshot, another armed Black man also fell.

Only then did Brian Carter realize what was happening. He shoved the professor in front of him to the ground and shouted at the top of his lungs, “Sniper! Get down! Get down!”

After Brian Carter shouted, everyone snapped out of their daze and hurriedly threw themselves to the ground. At this moment, Brian Carter rushed over and tackled Curtis Stone to the ground, and then shouted again in Akuri, “Get down, lie on the ground!”

Lying on the ground, Catherine was a bit flustered but still relatively calm. She whispered, “They’ve been following us all along. Who are they?”

Brian Carter’s heart was pounding. He glanced around from the ground but couldn’t see anyone. Although he could roughly judge the sniper’s position from the gunshots, he still couldn’t tell exactly where the bullets were coming from, nor how many snipers there were.

Lying on the ground, Brian Carter said to Professor Buck, “Find cover, get behind the car, crawl over, quickly.”

He had to repeat the same words in Akuri. As everyone crawled toward the car, Brian Carter reached out and dragged a double-barreled shotgun that was right next to him, then unfastened the bullet belt from the Black man’s waist and took it in hand.
