The layout of the room combined the bedroom and study into one. There was a desk—not very large, but sufficient for writing—a wardrobe for clothes, and a single armchair.
Charlotte couldn't help but feel a bit hungry when he saw the gas stove; he hadn't eaten anything all day.
Miss Newman seemed to have forgotten about this as well. She hadn't eaten anything either, so naturally she hadn't prepared any food for Charlotte.
Charlotte stood up, lit the kerosene stove by the dim light of the oil lamp, and searched the room. He found a few potatoes, some vegetables that looked like peas, a bottle of seasoning that looked and smelled like curry, and half a loaf of hard, black bread.
There was no electricity in this era, but the apartment had running water. Charlotte filled half a pot with clean water, peeled and chopped the potatoes, tossed in a handful of peas, added two spoonfuls of seasoning, and, once the water boiled, crumbled the black bread into the pot.
A few minutes later, he served the dinner onto a plate.
To be honest, it tasted terrible.
But after a whole day without food, Charlotte didn't care about the taste and quickly finished the entire pot, even boiling half a pot of water to make some black tea.
The black tea was also from his supplies. It was very strong, tasting nothing like black tea on Earth—more like peppercorn water mixed with chili, strange and invigorating.
Charlotte frowned as he took a sip, sat back in the wicker chair, took out his diary, hesitated for a moment, and didn't open it.
After returning from Sainis, he had sent his luggage by Imperial Post, carrying only this diary with him. He had only discovered the diary right before leaving, and had skimmed through the last few pages in a hurry, confirming that its original owner had died summoning an evil god, but hadn't yet read it thoroughly.
The oil lamp's light was weak, and under such lighting, he didn't want to look at anything, as it was bad for his eyesight.
What was even more worrying was that the diary was tainted with the aura of an evil god. Its previous owner had died summoning one, so there was a chance he might see something "unclean."
Sipping the black tea, Charlotte slowly recalled the documents he had seen during the day, just to pass the time.
Honestly, he hadn't expected to come across so many explosive secrets.
Most of these documents were related to one person.
Axel Robinson Zimmerman!
This man was of noble birth, originally named: Robin Zimmerman!
Five eras ago, Robin Sanders assisted King Akser, rising from a commoner to the throne, and with loyalty, bravery, iron will, and great achievements, became the perpetual holder of the highest title in the Fars Empire.
Before Sanders burst onto the scene, the Robin family was already the oldest noble house in the Ingrima Empire, producing countless scholars, military strategists, adventurers, peerless warriors, and unruly swordsmen!
In the newly founded Fars Empire, the Robin family's power, prestige, and status surpassed even that of the Ingrima Empire era.
From a young age, Zimmerman displayed extraordinary talent. At six, he entered Habosk Public School, and in his third year graduated at the top of his class, gaining admission to the First National Academy.
All public schools in the Empire used a credit system, with the average time to complete all coursework being six and a half years.
Habosk Public School was the top-ranked public school in the Empire, with especially rigorous academics. It was common for students to take more than eight years to finish, and even those who took over ten years were not unusual.
For Zimmerman to complete his studies in three years and graduate first in his class was enough to outshine all his peers. To call him the Empire's star of the future was hardly an exaggeration.
Charlotte graduated in five years, but ranked eighty-ninth in his class, and his school, Leman Public School, was far inferior to Habosk—just a second-rate institution.
Robin Zimmerman's résumé didn't end there. At thirteen, he smoothly completed his studies at the First National Academy, then, with astonishing results, was admitted to the Royal Hogwich University, and as a once-in-a-century genius, finished his studies there before the age of twenty.
After graduation, he declined lucrative job offers and chose to join the Imperial Navy. Within a year, he rose from captain of a third-class ship to commander of a naval fleet with five warships, leading his fleet to crush eight pirate fleets in succession and capturing Dongli, a long-standing headache for the Empire, turning it into an overseas dependency.
He should have naturally become the governor of Dongli, but instead, he refused the appointment and... led his troops in rebellion!
He joined the largest pirate group.
This favored son of heaven immediately became the Empire's most wanted criminal, topping the bounty list with a reward of 500,000 gold Aegis—unprecedented!
Before he appeared on the list, the previous number one, the Pirate King, had a bounty of only 116,000 gold Aegis, and the combined bounties of the top ten pirates totaled just 486,000 gold Aegis.
At the time, the Empire was swept by an indescribable frenzy. No one could guess why he would abandon such a bright future and willingly fall from grace.
The king was furious, publicly humiliating the head of the Robin family several times.
The family head, enraged, announced the removal of his surname and published a statement: "The Robin family will never accept a traitor to the Empire."
No one could have imagined that this audacious man would go on to do something even more earth-shattering!
