Chapter 1: The Young Eric Bennett
The Sirius Continent is vast beyond measure. In the center of the Sirius Continent lies the Sirius Mountain Range, stretching from north to south and splitting the continent in two. The continent itself is named after this mountain range. Around the Sirius Mountains, dozens of kingdoms and empires have been established, relying on the mountains for their foundation.
According to ancient records, this was once a vast plain. One day, a howling moon Sirius wolf fell from the sky and died here. Over time, the dead wolf turned into a mountain range. As for whether this is true or not, no one can say for sure. People of the Sirius Continent just treat it as a joke. A Sirius wolf stretching for tens of thousands of miles? If that were really the case, it could probably sink the entire continent with a single strike! That’s simply impossible.
Niujiao Village, located on the outskirts of the Sirius Mountains, is a remote mountain village under the jurisdiction of the Sky Blue Kingdom. At the very edge of the village, a middle-aged woman in her forties and a boy of about ten stood in front of a shabby thatched hut, anxiously waiting for something.
After a moment, a middle-aged man in his fifties walked out of the house.
“Master Carter... Master Carter, how is my little Feng?” Seeing the man come out, the middle-aged woman and the boy hurriedly gathered around, anxiously asking.
“Alas, Eric Bennett's meridians are severed, his breath is weak. Miss Ye, prepare for the worst!” Hearing their questions, the man sighed and replied.
“Are they talking about me?”
At this moment, a boy of about fifteen or sixteen lying on the bed in the hut slowly opened his eyes, a hint of confusion on his face as he thought to himself. Then he closed his eyes again, pondered for a moment, and mused silently, “No, they’re not talking about me. My meridians aren’t broken. Although my breath isn’t strong, it’s far from being weak!”
“Heh, then they’re not talking about me. Must be someone with the same name!” Once he figured it out, the boy shook his head and muttered to himself.
With that, he stopped paying attention to the voices outside.
“This isn’t my home. Is this the clinic in that village? It’s so shabby! But after a disaster, having a place to stay alone is already pretty good!” After speaking, the boy turned and glanced around. Seeing that everything in the room was extremely worn out, and not even a piece of paper covered the window, he thought to himself.
“So thirsty!” At this thought, the boy finally felt his mouth was dry, as if it was about to catch fire.
At this moment, Eric Bennett, sitting on the bed, saw a teapot on the table in the middle of the room, so he got up and walked over.
“Hiss...” As soon as the boy took a step, his face twisted in pain, and he couldn’t help but suck in a cold breath, secretly sighing, “Damn, that flood was really something. But at least I survived!”
Enduring the pain, Eric Bennett made his way to the table, picked up the teapot, and started pouring water into his mouth.
“Clack...” Just as the boy was drinking, the teapot lid suddenly fell to the ground with a crisp sound.
Eric Bennett didn’t care. His throat was burning, so why would he bother with a teapot lid!
He didn’t care, but the middle-aged woman and boy wiping their tears outside, as well as the man who was just about to leave, couldn’t ignore the noise from inside.
The three of them froze for a moment, exchanged glances, and then pushed the door open together and entered the room.
Uh...
The three who entered the room saw Eric Bennett gulping water from the teapot and all stood there with their mouths agape in shock.
Especially the middle-aged man—he had just checked Eric Bennett, whose breath was extremely weak and could die at any moment. He was very confident about this diagnosis, so seeing Eric Bennett drinking water left him completely dumbfounded.
Eric Bennett was also startled by the sudden intrusion of the three, especially when he noticed their clothes looked like something from ancient Huaxia, which made him even more suspicious.
If it weren’t for their healthy complexions, he might have thought he was in a mental hospital.
“Who are you? I’m just having some water, do you have to stare at me like that?” Looking at the three, Eric Bennett asked in confusion.
“Ah! Xiao Feng, son, you’re finally awake! You scared your mother to death...” Eric Bennett’s words instantly snapped the three out of their daze, especially the middle-aged woman, who rushed over to Eric Bennett, her hands trembling as she grabbed his arm.
Hearing this woman call herself his mother, Eric Bennett felt she might be traumatized. Her son probably died in the flood, and she was mistaking him for her son.
He wanted to shake off the woman, but seeing how sad she looked, for some reason, he felt a pang of sympathy. Especially her words of concern, which unexpectedly warmed his heart.
