Chapter 10

When he said that, Ethan Foster was a bit tempted as well: “Are you sure there’s really no problem?” Adam Brooks spread his hands: “What could go wrong? Anyone who spends money on this kind of treasure generator is definitely someone who uses our smuggled appliances. Would he dare report us to the Imperial Inspectorate?”

Ethan Foster thought for a moment and nodded: “You make sense. Alright, let me think—among the people I know, who has practiced lightning magic... and is also reliable...” Adam Brooks chuckled: “Young Foster, if you want him to be reliable, that’s easy. Just find out what he likes, I’ll go down to the mortal realm and get some for him. Once he uses it, he’ll be in the same boat as us.”

Ethan Foster glanced at him and said coolly, “I’m just helping out, I have no intention of smuggling with you.” Adam Brooks quickly replied, “Of course I understand that. If the Imperial Inspectorate catches me, I’ll keep my mouth shut, don’t worry. Besides, if I get caught, it’s a dead end for me. Even if I rat you out, they won’t pardon me, so why would I die and still be a disloyal immortal ghost?”

Ethan Foster nodded repeatedly at his words, apologizing, “Old Brooks, don’t take it the wrong way, that’s not what I meant.” Adam Brooks laughed heartily: “Then please put some effort into this for me.” Ethan Foster patted his chest: “Don’t worry, leave it to me!”

Chapter 04: Even Immortals Have Shady Deals

“What, bird food? Are you kidding me, Young Foster?” When Adam Brooks heard the weakness of the lightning magic expert Ethan Foster introduced, he spat out the tea in his mouth right out the window of Guanyan Tower. Ethan Foster shook his head: “Of course not. This guy is a demon immortal, you know what that means? In the immortal realm, nine out of ten weirdos are demon immortals.”

Adam Brooks nodded: “You’re not wrong.” He stroked his chin, looking thoughtful, calculating in his mind that it seemed he’d have to make another trip to the mortal realm. Just as well—last time, the disc he smuggled for Evan Carter had a preview of the latest film by that actress at the end. Just a few scenes, but they were so hot that Young Carter could barely contain himself, and kept asking him to get the new DVD as soon as possible. Adam Brooks was worried that Evan Carter’s “allowance” had been cut lately and he couldn’t pay his bill, so he’d been putting it off. This time, he’d just do a good deed and get it for him.

Ethan Foster lowered his voice: “Old Brooks, are you going down again?” Adam Brooks nodded, and Ethan Foster said, “Perfect, bring me a gaming magazine, and send this out for me while you’re at it.”

Adam Brooks took it and saw it was a voting slip for a game beauty contest. It turned out that this famous domestic gaming magazine was holding a cosplay competition, letting readers vote for the prettiest girl in their eyes. Ethan Foster had cut out a ballot from the last magazine Adam Brooks brought him, already filled in with the contestant number of his favorite girl and his own information.

Adam Brooks glanced at it, frowning: “Young Foster, why is all the info you gave mine?” The phone number and address Ethan Foster provided were all for Adam Brooks’s “base” in the mortal realm. Ethan Foster grinned, slinging an arm around his shoulder: “Brothers for life—can’t you help me with this little thing?”

Adam Brooks looked at him, a sly smile on his face: “Young Foster, do you have something on your mind? Hmm? Be honest, have you taken a liking to this girl?” He shook the ballot in his hand. “If you don’t tell me, don’t blame your brother for not helping.” With that, he stuffed the ballot back into Ethan Foster’s hand.

Ethan Foster hurriedly said, “No, no, I’ll tell you, alright? Listen, this girl is cosplaying my favorite game beauty. Wow, you have no idea, it’s uncanny—her looks and aura are almost exactly like the character in the game!”

Adam Brooks thought about it. His obsession with game beauties had nothing to do with him; he couldn’t go down and flirt with her himself, so it was irrelevant. As long as Ethan Foster had enough immortal jade, what couldn’t he help him with?

“Alright, no problem, leave it to me.” Adam Brooks patted his chest.

Taking the ballot, he returned to his own Fushan cave residence, and Ryan Brooks tidied up briefly, preparing to descend to the mortal realm.

Following his usual method, Ryan Brooks held a breath of immortal energy in his body. Normally, at this point, the immortal energy would be forced into that mysterious channel inside him, opening the passage to the mortal realm. But this time, as soon as he held the immortal energy in, it somehow leaked out from somewhere!

Adam Brooks was stunned: What’s going on? The compensation immortal technique that had never failed before suddenly didn’t work. Try again! The immortal energy entered his body, but it was like air going into a punctured tire—it quickly leaked out from somewhere.

Adam Brooks started to panic. This was bad. He’d been doing pretty well in the immortal realm, all thanks to this compensation technique. Without it, he’d have no way to make a living. Could he survive the next five hundred years? It was really hard to say!

He tried several more times, but the result was the same. However, after a few attempts, Adam Brooks noticed something different: it seemed the leak wasn’t a bottomless pit. After several infusions of immortal energy, the leaking was gradually slowing down. Could it be that this “leak” was about to be filled?
