Even though he is now already in his thirties, he still often flips through those classics on his bookshelf that have faded with time. Occasionally, he even fantasizes: what if he were William Bolton, or if he were Logan Flynn... Of course, it would be even better if he were Brian Harris or Benjamin Wade with a harem of wives and concubines—after all, it’s in a man’s nature to be fond of women.
Now that James Bolton's martial arts dream is about to come true, it’s no wonder he can’t help but laugh wildly with joy.
Humans are never satisfied, which is why there are idioms and sayings like “give an inch, want a mile” and “greed knows no bounds, like a snake trying to swallow an elephant.” Of course, this is also why humanity has always been at the forefront of evolution among Earth’s species.
And now, this insatiable nature is making the once silly-smiling James Bolton feel deeply regretful again.
“What a pity, I had no idea something so fantastical would happen! If I’d known earlier, I wouldn’t have chosen this ‘Sunflower Manual’ for my newbie gift box. I definitely would have picked the ‘War God Record’ that’s unbeatable in both duels and group fights, or the so-called ultimate pick-up technique ‘Dao Heart Cultivation of Demons.’
Sigh, what a miscalculation!”
After just a couple of sighs, James Bolton shook his head again.
“No, no. If I had known something so fantastical would happen to me, I definitely wouldn’t have modified ‘Wulin Three Kingdoms.’ If I’d changed ‘Investiture of the Gods’ or ‘Legend of the Lich’ back then, wouldn’t I be an immortal now? That’s way cooler than being a martial arts master.”
Then, James Bolton quickly discovered something else that made him feel disappointed.
Back when James Bolton was modifying the game, besides the fun, it was all about that feeling of “爽” (thrill). So when he was tweaking the game, he had already planned to learn every single martial art in ‘Wulin Three Kingdoms.’
But now that it’s come to reality, James Bolton no longer has the chance to enter quest dungeons to learn martial arts or obtain secret manuals like in the game, so it’s no wonder he feels a bit down.
After all, in real life, there’s no John Foster or Henry Hall to teach him the ‘Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms,’ no Simon Snow to help him comprehend ‘The Sword God’s Smile,’ and no War God Hall built beneath Jingyan Palace. So those martial arts even more awesome than the ‘Sunflower Manual’ are destined to be out of his reach—how heartbreaking!
Chapter 003 The Arrogant Perpetrator
While James Bolton was still lost in greedy regret over missing out on several of the top martial arts, two hours had already passed. Frank Shelton, who had completed his rescue mission, pushed the door open and entered once again, still with that booming voice:
“Boss, I’m back! You must be bored out of your mind staying in the hospital room by yourself, right?”
Seeing the tired look on Frank Shelton’s face, James Bolton knew this guy had rushed over right after finishing his work, clearly thinking about him, which warmed his heart a little.
But, being used to joking around with this brother, he still put on a dissatisfied face and scolded with a smile:
“You never learn, do you? Don’t you know your boss has a headache? Still so noisy!”
After five years in college and nearly six years of work, Frank Shelton had spent ten years with James Bolton and was completely unfazed by his teasing, not taking offense at all. He grinned and sat down by James Bolton’s bed, not intending to respond to the previous topic, and instead asked cheekily:
“Boss, you didn’t crash on purpose this time, did you? You went on vacation, drove around for days without a problem, but as soon as you were coming back to work, you got into an accident? Didn’t get enough rest, huh? But for that bit of sick leave pay, you really dared to take the risk!”
James Bolton was so choked by Frank Shelton’s words that he rolled his eyes. After taking a couple of angry breaths, he finally let out a roar that made the window glass tremble.
“Get out!”
James Bolton’s voice was loud, making his already stuffy and uncomfortable head throb even more. But Frank Shelton still had that cheeky grin, not even frowning, and lazily teased:
“Boss, give it a rest, will you? See, your head hurts now—serves you right!”
This guy clearly noticed the pain on James Bolton’s face after his outburst. Seeing Frank Shelton so unfazed, James Bolton could only give in:
“Whether it hurts or not is none of your business. Tell me, what happened to the bastard who hit me? Did they get disfigured?”
“Huh? Why didn’t you ask if she died? How do you know she’s still alive?”
Frank Shelton asked in confusion. James Bolton rolled his eyes, “Of course I can guess that bastard didn’t die. Because I have a brain!”
As he spoke, James Bolton pointed at his own head with a look of disdain. Seeing Frank Shelton still looking confused, James Bolton continued to explain:
“Deduction, do you get it?”
“My car broke down, so during the accident, my car was parked on the emergency lane of the highway. While waiting for the tow truck, I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, but I only got this little injury.”
As he spoke, James Bolton pointed at his bandaged head and continued:
“What does that mean? It means the car that hit me wasn’t very big, and it definitely wasn’t going very fast! Following this logic, even if the car that hit me was the smallest MINI or QQ type of ‘toy,’ as long as you’re wearing a seatbelt, you wouldn’t get fatally injured.”
