Charles Quinn continued, “Hold down Henry Lang, don’t let him move recklessly! If there’s a way out later, take him to my house and explain everything to my father!” With that, she smeared the last bit of red clay on her lips, reversed her grip on the Yangshou Evil Bow, nodded lightly at Henry Lang, and then leapt up, sweeping toward the jade wall like the wind!
Henry Lang’s eyes widened as he let out a muffled roar, but his body was pinned down tightly by Isaac Lowell, whose face was just as twisted, leaving him unable to move at all.
Charles Quinn moved with incredible speed, weaving through the horde of ghosts and monsters. He held his breath, sealed himself with red clay again, and though the little ghosts seemed to sense him, they couldn’t catch him. They spun in place, looking utterly confused. In the blink of an eye, Charles Quinn disappeared into the jade wall, leaving not a trace behind...
Henry Lang felt his chest tighten to the extreme, his heart sinking with every passing moment. After waiting a while with no movement from the jade wall, just as he was about to turn to look at Isaac Lowell, Isaac Lowell suddenly brought his mouth close to Henry Lang’s ear and whispered, “If the lord doesn’t come back, I’ll go all out. Take care of yourself.”
Then Henry Lang felt the big tendon in his neck twisted hard, and everything went black as he fainted!
When Henry Lang opened his eyes again, he caught a glimpse of Isaac Lowell, also covered in red clay, flashing into the jade wall.
Beside Henry Lang, the spirit lamp was emitting a faint blue glow, enveloping him. After a moment’s thought, Henry Lang understood: although Isaac Lowell had knocked him out, perhaps because his mind was scattered or he was afraid of hurting him, he hadn’t controlled his strength well, so Henry Lang only passed out for a moment before waking up again.
Looking more closely around, Henry Lang’s heart turned cold in an instant... In just that short time, the little ghosts had already given up searching for food and started gathering and retreating, slowly returning to the jade wall!
If he waited any longer, once all the little ghosts returned to the jade wall, it would solidify again. At that point, no matter how capable Charles Quinn and Isaac Lowell were, they’d be trapped inside with no escape.
Charles Quinn, Isaac Lowell, the desperate mine, the evil jade wall... and those words: “I’ll go all out. Take care of yourself!”
Holding the spirit lamp, swaying as he stood up, the big tendon in his neck throbbing, his whole body still numb, Henry Lang dazedly realized that even if he wanted to fight to the death, he wasn’t qualified—he’d only be throwing his life away.
Henry Lang burst into tears, and realizing he was doomed, only one thought filled his mind: perish together!
Just as the words “perish together” flashed through his heart, Henry Lang shivered. While observing the gap between the jade wall and the stone vein earlier, a vague idea in his mind suddenly became clear.
Take care of yourself?
Better to perish together!
Chapter 9: Perish Together
Henry Lang gripped the spirit lamp, not caring about the snot and tears on his face, and, bawling loudly, staggered straight toward the jade wall!
The little ghosts, their eyes shielded by the spirit lamp, couldn’t sense him at all and retreated into the jade wall. Henry Lang had no idea how many ghosts he bumped into along the way, but he stumbled to the gap between the jade wall and the stone vein, threw away the silver-headed human figurine lamp, and pressed his hands onto the two ancient evil objects!
His left hand sank into the jade wall, and his left ear was suddenly filled with the wails of ghosts and the rumble of sinister thunder;
His right hand gripped the stone root, and in his right eye he saw endless graves and a sky full of vengeful spirits.
Henry Lang’s method was as simple as could be. The jade wall and the stone vein beneath Mount Ku Nai were both evil spirits, but they never interacted—each kept to its own, never interfering with the other. But what if they were connected? He would use himself to link them together.
Sure enough, as soon as Henry Lang’s body connected the two evil objects, they both let out savage, furious howls almost simultaneously and began to stir. Henry Lang felt as if countless carts loaded with boulders were forcing their way through his arms, crushing through his veins, thundering through his organs, and finally colliding again and again in his chest!
Seeing his “cunning plan succeed,” even though his body was in unbearable pain, Henry Lang couldn’t help but feel elated, giggling through a mouthful of blood, “Who will win? Whoever wins, I’ll let them eat me!”
As the two evil objects clashed, a blue mist rose from the jade wall, while a gray-black smoke billowed from the stone vein. Like two dragons, they hovered in midair, twisting and entangling, wrapping Henry Lang layer by layer. From a distance, Henry Lang looked as if he were inside a giant cocoon.
In contrast to the raging force inside his body, both the blue mist and the black smoke felt cool as they passed over him, greatly easing his agony.
Henry Lang felt he wouldn’t live much longer, but that brought him a strange peace. As he enjoyed the soothing touch of the smoke and mist, he was also a bit puzzled. After a moment’s thought, he suddenly understood: these two evil objects seemed to be natural enemies, close for countless years but unable to fight. Now, finally given the chance, they were afraid this “little battlefield” wouldn’t withstand their power and be destroyed, so as they fought, they spared some strength to protect his body.
In recent years, Henry Lang had experienced many strange things, but nothing as bizarre as this. Yet at this moment, unable to move, all he could do was stare in shock...
