Chapter 8

As they spoke, the two of them each hopped onto their motorcycles and left.

The old town really wasn’t big. As they rode along, they exchanged a few words and quickly decided on a place to eat. Riding over, it only took five or six minutes to get there.

Just as they stopped in front of the restaurant and turned off the engines—before they’d even pulled out the keys—Samuel Wright suddenly said, “No, let’s go! Quick!”

He immediately started his bike again.

David Brooks hadn’t even figured out what was happening when he suddenly heard someone shouting not far away, “Samuel Wright, you dare run? Stand right there!”

Instinctively turning his head, David Brooks was momentarily stunned.

Wow, this girl was really beautiful!

Unlike William Carter, who had an air of elegance and pride, this girl was the epitome of a typical Jiangnan beauty: dewy, delicate skin, bright, lively eyes, a slender and graceful figure—so well-proportioned that even bundled up in thick winter clothes, you could still see the beauty of her frame at a glance.

However, in reality, she was by no means the gentle, soft-spoken Jiangnan girl of tradition—maybe she inherited it from her mother, but her personality was always strong-willed.

Beautiful, smart, ambitious, and bold.

Sometimes, she could even be a bit domineering. That was the impression she’d left on the original David Brooks.

Oh, right, her name was Emily Wright.

Samuel Wright’s older sister.

David Brooks had been to their house for dinner several times before, so he knew her.

Samuel Wright had no choice but to turn off his engine again. Both of them got off their motorcycles and exchanged a helpless glance.

Almost at the same time, they both realized—Emily Wright’s workplace was just nearby.

And now, without a doubt, it was lunchtime, and Emily Wright had just gotten off work.

It was only then that David Brooks noticed that Emily Wright wasn’t alone; there were four other young women with her, chattering like little birds as they followed her across the street.

Emily Wright was about 1.6 meters tall, and up close she looked even prettier and more radiant, but her temper was fiery—nothing like the gentle women of Jiangnan. With one swift motion, she expertly grabbed Samuel Wright by the ear. Samuel Wright didn’t even dare dodge, just pleaded miserably, “Don’t, don’t, don’t pull, it hurts, sis…”

“Why aren’t you at work? What are you doing here?”

“I… I’m on shift!”

“Bullshit! Didn’t you just ask Dad a few days ago to help you get off the night shift? You can’t even lie properly…” Suddenly, she looked over. “You two together—definitely up to no good! Planning to go drink, aren’t you?”

David Brooks looked thoroughly embarrassed.

Maybe it was the original host’s memories acting up, but David Brooks instinctively wanted to avoid her too.

The original host must have been pretty afraid of her.

Just then, the other girls had caught up. Almost in unison, they all glanced at Samuel Wright, then turned their eyes to David Brooks—and this time, they didn’t want to look away.

Someone asked, “Jiaying, who are these two? Aren’t you going to introduce us?”

Emily Wright was glaring at David Brooks, and without even turning her head, replied in a mocking tone, “Don’t even think about these two—they’re no good, just a couple of punks!”

Well, that was even more awkward.

But one of the girls laughed and said, “Punks are the best—some people just like punks.”

Emily Wright couldn’t help but laugh.

She let go of her brother’s ear, turned around, and scolded with a smile, “Pfft! At least have some shame, will you? Haven’t you ever had anything better than bran to eat?”

But in the end, she still introduced everyone.

As expected, these girls were all her colleagues, just off work and planning to go eat together!

And it turned out they’d picked the same place as David Brooks and his friend.

Emily Wright clearly didn’t want to miss out on the meal with her colleagues, but she also didn’t want her brother going out drinking—especially not with David Brooks, who in her mind was the worst of the worst. So she said, “Samuel Wright, if you dare go drinking, I’ll tell Mom and Dad as soon as I get home tonight!”

Samuel Wright looked helpless and was about to say something when one of the girls laughed and said, “We’re all going to eat anyway, Jiaying. If you’re worried about your brother drinking, why not just have everyone go together?”

Emily Wright hesitated for a moment, then smiled.

She was sharp—she immediately understood what was going on, and shot a half-smiling glance at the girl who’d spoken. “Fine, but let me make this clear first! These two really are punks! Have you ever seen any decent guys riding motorcycles around town all day? So if you end up liking one of them, don’t say I introduced you, and don’t come blaming me later!”

As she said this, she pointed especially at David Brooks. “Especially this one—he got into a fight just a few days ago!”

David Brooks rubbed his nose and tried to defend himself, “Jiaying, I’ve changed for the better now!”

Chapter 6: Someone Destined for Great Things

David Brooks didn’t mind eating with a bunch of girls.

But Samuel Wright immediately objected, and with good reason. “We’re not eating with you! We’re two guys—sitting in the middle of a bunch of girls, how embarrassing is that!”

David Brooks couldn’t help but laugh.
