Chapter 14

“Can’t see through it!” The mountain god only said this one sentence. At this point, no one expected any hope of survival. Everyone understood clearly, yet their demeanor was that of true immortals—each one’s conduct made James Carter admire them.

“Every grievance has its source, every debt its owner. There is no old grudge nor recent enmity between us. I am merely fulfilling my duty, acting under orders. Forgive me!” Before executing each immortal, James Carter would tirelessly repeat these words. Only after saying them would James Carter raise his blade.

“Why do you say those words every time before you strike?” The fifth one, who looked like a scholar and whose official rank was unclear, asked James Carter this as soon as he came up, even with a hint of mockery in his tone: “Are you afraid that after killing immortals you’ll meet a bad end, feeling guilty perhaps?”

“I simply wish to avoid entangling myself in karma!” James Carter paid no mind to the mocking tone, replying calmly, “Though you all die by my hand, the true cause of your deaths does not lie with me. If karma is to fall, it will be upon the one who gave the order. If you have any grudges, direct them at your true enemy! I am but an executioner, untouched by karma!”

“You think just saying so makes it so?” Though the scholar was bound, his eyes darted quickly. “I’m afraid it’s not up to you, is it?”

“Whether I am touched by it or not depends entirely on my own heart.” James Carter was not angered, simply answering at his own pace: “Executing you all is my duty, and I have a clear conscience. If I say I am untouched, then I am untouched.” The powerful confidence in his words left the scholar feeling discouraged.

Since entering the Immortal Execution Platform, James Carter had almost always referred to himself as “I, the humble one.” Any of these immortals about to be executed could have been his senior, so James Carter only addressed them as “senior” and referred to himself humbly, never using any other form of address.

“Very well, I too have an unfulfilled wish. If you kill a few more, I’ll leave you something good.” The scholar smiled for a moment, then said to James Carter: “In Dan Yu Valley of Luqing Mountain, I have left behind some magical treasures and elixirs. After you get out, you can go there and look for them. Whether you find them or not depends on your luck!”

“Is there anything special about entering or leaving Dan Yu Valley?” James Carter asked, his tone unchanged.

“Entering is easy, just walk in. To leave, you need to use the Eight-Treasure Wind Bronze Mirror to suppress the formation’s core, only then can you exit the valley.” The scholar answered quickly, without the slightest hesitation.

“What a scheme!” James Carter suddenly sneered, “Dan Yu Valley is a dead end—easy to enter, impossible to leave. The Eight-Treasure Wind Bronze Mirror—there’s no way out! I have no intention of deceiving you, senior, yet you deliberately seek to harm me. In that case, forgive my offense!”

“Hahahaha! You youngster, you’re clever indeed, to know there’s a trick.” The scholar laughed heartily. “By chance you know about Dan Yu Valley’s trap, it seems your fate is not yet sealed. But I am already in this state, death is near. Besides death, what other offense could you possibly mean?”

“I am not talented, but I happen to know a technique called the Crippling Immortal, Severing Demon Hand.” James Carter’s face showed a cold smile, but his words were calm: “Though I am a mere mortal, without magical power, with the Immortal Execution Platform in hand, I can still perform it to some extent. Senior, before your demise, enjoy it well!”

As soon as James Carter finished speaking, the scholar’s expression changed dramatically. Not only him, but all the immortals below the platform also turned pale.

Chapter 11: Only When All the Hairy Gods Are Executed Can the Demons Be Seen (Part 1)

Not only the scholar on the platform, but all the other condemned prisoners below shivered at James Carter’s words. The Crippling Immortal, Severing Demon Hand was said to be the most vicious punishment in the immortal realm. Once afflicted, even a Great Luo Golden Immortal would suffer unbearable itching and pain all over, to the point where, at the extreme, one would lose all sense of shame, strip naked, and scratch themselves until they were covered in blood.

What was especially sinister about this technique was that not only could the caster control the victim at will, but it also had a crucial effect: it would forever sever the victim’s cultivation. Once afflicted, the victim’s cultivation would be at the mercy of the caster. Only someone with magical power several times greater than the caster could find the method to break the control and relieve the victim’s suffering. Otherwise, it would cling to them like maggots on a bone, haunting them for life.

James Carter, having been framed by William Carter, offended people from the Mortal Realm’s Tai Tian Sect, not realizing that Tai Tian Sect was merely a branch of the Xuan Tian Sect in the immortal realm, and Xuan Tian Sect was a main force in this heavenly rebellion. After his ascension, James Carter was targeted. To set an example for others, the Xuan Tian Sect’s master placed the Crippling Immortal, Severing Demon Hand on James Carter.

Intentionally making James Carter a model of disobedience, every month the restriction on James Carter would activate once, each time causing him unbearable pain and utter humiliation in the immortal realm. To make the lesson even more memorable for others, James Carter’s cultivation was not suppressed; he was even allowed to reach the level of Great Luo Golden Immortal.

The Crippling Immortal, Severing Demon Hand was a stolen demonic technique, extremely sinister, and only the heads of a few great sects were qualified to practice it, passing it down by word of mouth, unknown to outsiders. But after being subjected to it so many times, James Carter had learned a thing or two.

“Who exactly are you? How do you know the Crippling Immortal, Severing Demon Hand?” The scholar was shocked, almost in despair, as he asked. Clearly, James Carter had no need to intimidate a man about to die.

“I’ve said, I am but a mortal, merely in control of the Immortal Execution Platform.” As he spoke, the execution blade in his hand suddenly turned into a fine needle.
