Chapter 15

Come again! If I fall for it again, I’d truly be unworthy of the name “chivalrous thief”! Ethan Grant’s face turned pale, and he waved his hands repeatedly, saying, “You go ahead and eat by yourself. I—I already ate outside.”

Why didn’t you take me with you? That was Sean Cooper’s first reaction, but she said instead, “Where did you eat?”

Ethan Grant sat on the couch and said, “At Uncle Yang’s place.”

Sean Cooper frowned and said, “Uncle Yang has it tough too. How can you just go eat at someone else’s house?”

Better to lose face than lose your life! Ethan Grant laughed and said, “It’s not like I ate for free. I helped him with work all day—for you.”

Then you should have taken me with you! As soon as Sean Cooper heard this, she was instantly angry, her phoenix eyes wide open. “We owe so much money out here, and you’re still running off to help others? Do you even care about this family?”

She sounded just like an elder.

Ethan Grant was taken aback. “Didn’t you say you had a way to handle it?”

“I—”

Sean Cooper looked a bit guilty. “Even so, you shouldn’t go help others. If you have the energy, why not help me?”

She had a point. Ethan Grant said awkwardly, “Sorry, you didn’t say anything, so I thought you didn’t need my help. If you need me to do something, as long as I can, I’ll do it without a word.”

“I—”

Sean Cooper saw the innocent look on Ethan Grant’s face, and her own face flushed red. She snorted angrily and turned to leave.

What’s that about? I already apologized and agreed to help. Why is she still mad?

Ethan Grant felt terribly wronged.

After a while, Sean Cooper came in holding a bowl.

Just looking at her made Ethan Grant nervous.

Bang!

Sean Cooper slammed the bowl down on the low table, full of anger.

Ethan Grant glanced inside—it was a bowl of porridge. To be precise, wild vegetable porridge.

It looked half-raw. Good thing I was cautious—this woman must have been sent by the dark culinary world to torment me.

Ethan Grant didn’t want to watch the tragedy about to unfold, so he decisively turned his head away, lest anyone say he was gloating. He still had some conscience and knew it wasn’t right to kick someone when they’re down.

Sean Cooper stared at the porridge, struggling inside. But when she glanced at Ethan Grant’s trembling shoulders, she didn’t want to be looked down on. Gritting her teeth, she picked up the spoon and tasted a little. Instantly, her brows furrowed tightly. After struggling for a while, she finally put down the spoon. Just as Ethan Grant had thought earlier, better to lose face than lose your life. She glanced at Ethan Grant again, saw him half-lying on the couch facing the wall, and suddenly her eyes showed a hint of confusion. She spoke: “Ethan Grant.”

“Hmm?”

Only then did Ethan Grant turn back to look at Sean Cooper.

Sean Cooper looked confused. “Are you really Ethan Grant?”

“Who else would I be?”

Ethan Grant muttered inwardly.

Sean Cooper said, “But—but I feel like ever since you were struck by lightning, you’ve changed into a different person.”

You’re only noticing now? That’s a bit slow. Ethan Grant grinned, “This is the real me. Before, I was just pretending. And you can stop pretending to be gentle—I can tell it’s hard for you.”

“Good point.”

Sean Cooper nodded, a look of sudden realization on her face. She mused, “I also think I’m not suited to be a virtuous and gentle wife.”

“It’s not that you’re not suited—it’s that you’re completely unsuited.”

Ethan Grant shook his head.

Bang!

“Ow!”

Ethan Grant clutched his nose and glared at Sean Cooper. “Why did you hit me?”

That punch landed squarely on Ethan Grant’s nose, and it wasn’t light. The pain made his eyebrows twist together.

Sean Cooper withdrew her dainty fist, jumped off the couch, and said with a dark face, “This is the real me. I’ve wanted to teach you a lesson for a long time.”

But Ethan Grant wasn’t one to be trifled with either. After all, he was a wanderer, and fighting was nothing new. He glared back, “Don’t think I won’t hit a woman.”

Sean Cooper sneered, “If you really have the guts, I’d actually be happy for you.” As she spoke, she extended her right hand in a “please” gesture.

Provocation!

Absolute provocation!

Ethan Grant was furious. A grown man, being looked down on by a woman like this—if he could tolerate that, he might as well become a eunuch! He slapped the table and stood up. “Fine! Today I’ll have a fair fight with you, so you can see what I’m made of!”

Before he finished speaking, he grabbed the bowl of porridge and flung it at Sean Cooper.

So much for a fair fight—Sean Cooper hadn’t expected that. A flash of panic crossed her eyes, but she was quick, shielding her face with both hands while cursing him as despicable in her heart.

“Take this—!”

Ethan Grant pressed his advantage, yelling as he lunged. He was a seasoned fighter, and you could tell just from the way he used that bowl of porridge.

Bang!

“Ah—!”

As the candlelight flickered, there was a miserable scream. Ethan Grant was back on the couch, curled up, clutching his stomach, his eyes nearly bulging out.

Experience is one thing, but strength is what really matters!
