Chapter 5

Prostrate on the ground, Henry Brooks stared fixedly at the stone spear, wanting to laugh out loud. Blood at the corner of his mouth stained the dirt, pulling at his wounds and making him gasp in pain.

“Senior, are you serious about this?!”

But the stone spear no longer emitted any purple light, clearly having fallen silent once again.

“Ha...!”

Struggling to sit up, he burst into laughter. Fortune and opportunity—he had finally seized them!

On the vast wild land, from the great expanse where the human race multiplied and heaven and earth vied for fate, down to Ethan Brooks sheltering thousands of miles, propagating and passing on the lineage, weren’t all living beings struggling for survival?

Even though his whole body felt shattered with pain at this moment, compared to the chance to leave the ancient land of Lishan, what did it matter!

Worth it!

Puh!

Pulling the stone spear from the ground, Henry Brooks used it to support himself as he walked out of the ancient forest. This place was simply too dangerous. Earlier, the stone spear’s purple light could intimidate many fierce beasts, but now the spear had fallen silent again.

Awooo! Awooo! Awooo!

Fortunately, he hadn’t gone far when he heard howls ahead. The familiar sound made Henry Brooks breathe a sigh of relief—the warriors of the Qingyang clan were searching for their young master!

The ancient forest erupted with thunderous roars, the earth trembled, as if a horde of beasts was passing through, a ferocious aura surging all around.

Three miles away, a group of thirty or forty men exuded a murderous air, each carrying several thick white bone spears on their backs.

As they advanced, they howled and hurled the bone spears, piercing ancient trees right through!

Awooo! Awooo! Awooo!

The rain of bone spears tore through the ancient forest. The burly men revealed their wild and domineering nature, howling loudly like a band of savages passing through, rampaging with unstoppable force!

“Big brother, I’m here!”

“It’s the young master! I hear the young master’s voice!”

A voice like muffled thunder rang out. A man nearly ten feet tall, his rough beast hide unable to conceal his dark, gleaming muscles, quickly waved to stop the spear-throwing men.

Henry Brooks also saw the dark-skinned burly man. He was used to such physiques—men of the wild were all robust and rugged. Even some women in the tribe were big and strong, sometimes carrying long spears like the men, fighting beasts in the forest hand-to-hand, truly fierce beyond compare.

“You little brat, sneaking into the ancient forest again after ditching your clan guards! If I don’t beat you so you’re bedridden for three months, I’m not your big brother!”

Soon, an angry roar came from the ancient forest ahead. A burly, bow-backed man crashed through the woods, charging toward Henry Brooks, already swinging his huge hand mid-stride!

“Little brother!”

But when he saw him leaning on the rough stone spear, covered in blood, the big man’s hand did not fall.

“Which beast did this to you? Big brother will hunt it down and make soup for you!” With a roar in his eyes, Logan Brooks shouted.

At this moment, Henry Brooks couldn’t help but glance at the stone spear—fortunately, there was no reaction.

Seeing his pitiful appearance, Logan Brooks said gruffly, “The ancient forest is full of dangers. Good thing you’re only injured and not carried off by some strange beast. Next time, I’ll break your legs!”

Watching his big brother try to act fierce, Henry Brooks couldn’t help but smile, though it pulled at his wounds and made him grimace.

“Come on, let’s go back to the tribe!”

Immediately, Henry Brooks was hoisted onto his big brother’s shoulder. Waves of pain shot through him, making him grit his teeth.

His big brother really was a bit rough.

“If we don’t go back soon, mother will start to worry. Good thing you’re alright. This time, big brother hunted a Black-Horned Python at the Divine Treasure level. Absorbing its blood essence will be enough for you to temper your blood and bones, maybe even refine your Dao marrow. Let the surrounding Langyun tribe and Jinge clan be envious—my little brother is the real genius!”

Carrying Henry Brooks, Logan Brooks kept muttering as the group quickly headed out of the ancient forest to join up with the Qingyang clan’s hunting party.

The team was several hundred strong. Each burly man bared his chest, scars crisscrossing, shoulders loaded with all kinds of prey—black bears, giant pythons, each at least ten feet long.

The men shouted and howled to each other as they marched toward the Qingyang settlement.

“I heard the Langyun tribe has a talented young girl. Little brother, you should go carry her back to continue the Qingyang line!”

“Yeah, young master, you’re already thirteen. Go to the Langyun tribe and bring that girl back—let her become one of our Qingyang people.”

“Awooo! Awooo! Carry her back! Carry her back! If the young master brings her back today, all this game will be the betrothal gift. It won’t be long before our Qingyang clan has a little young master! Awooo!”

Big brother’s words immediately set off a chorus of howls from the men around, all supporting Henry Brooks in going to the Langyun tribe to bring back a wife.

Lying atop a scaled horned horse, Henry Brooks felt pain all over, but showed not a trace of shyness. That’s just how men of the wild are—the more embarrassed you get, the more they’ll tease you, bold and uninhibited.

Just like that, the group soon returned to the Qingyang clan’s territory—a mountain range over ten miles across, situated in the center of a vast wilderness.
