Chapter 11

"Peiyuan Dan!" Emily Brooks answered quickly, "I'm not free right now, but after I kill that demon beast, I'll buy you a big bottle of Peiyuan Dan."

"Thanks!" William Carter replied with a smile, reaching out to pat the bundle wrapped in brocade not far away on the ground. "I believe these things should be enough for me to buy some, right?"

Chapter 6: The Instinct to Kill

Emily Brooks left to take care of her own business.

William Carter watched Emily Brooks leave and closed the courtyard gate. Now that he was alone, William Carter could finally quietly reflect on everything that had happened today.

He had arrived in a strange world and had even become younger. There was now a gray figure in his mind, as well as a low-level remnant soul of a little carp, and he had become the fiancé of the stunningly beautiful Emily Brooks. All of this felt like a dream.

As a sniper, one must be good at finding clues in every tiny detail. For now, William Carter had already confirmed a few things.

First, Emily Brooks was definitely not just the dependent young lady she appeared to be in this town. Uncle Old Fish and that Dai Huan's attitude toward Emily Brooks was absolutely not how one would treat someone insignificant.

Why did Emily Brooks admit that he was her fiancé? If it was just an excuse at first, then now, it was probably still just an excuse.

William Carter was self-aware enough not to delude himself into thinking a beauty would throw herself at him. Emily Brooks must have done this to let someone—or some people—here know, even at the risk of being ridiculed at the academy. The purpose was clear: he was being used as a shield.

As for the help in three months, maybe Emily Brooks really did intend to use him, but William Carter would never take it seriously. He was just a low-level guy who had barely cultivated—what could he possibly do to help her?

This house, this courtyard, could be considered Emily Brooks's way of repaying a life-saving favor, and William Carter lived here with a clear conscience. Having just arrived in this world, there was no need to sleep on the streets.

Carrying the brocade bundle, William Carter went straight to the marketplace. On the way to and from the academy, William Carter had already seen a sizable market and believed he could get rid of these things there.

Many people on the road recognized William Carter. There was no helping it—his signature buzz cut was unlike anyone else's here, making him stand out at a glance. Quite a few people pointed at him and whispered, and William Carter could always catch words like "low-level," "overestimating himself," "trash," and so on.

But William Carter was indifferent. What others said was their business. Trying to anger a sniper with mere words was no easy task. As William Carter himself had said, if everyone here saw him this way, he would actually be quite happy.

He walked up to the largest storefront on the street, "Baoqing Yu Tang," and swaggered in with his bundle. A shop assistant promptly came up to greet him warmly.

Even though everyone knew William Carter only had a low-level remnant soul and was considered trash, whose gold wasn't still gold? The shop assistant's hospitality was no less than when dealing with the instructors.

"I want to sell these things. Do you buy them here?" William Carter casually lifted a corner of the bundle, revealing a pile of weapons and various exquisite accessories, then covered it again.

That was enough for the assistant to see plenty. His smile grew even warmer as he immediately invited William Carter to the back. Not long after, William Carter walked out of Baoqing Yu Tang with a satisfied look, now carrying an ordinary burlap bundle.

Bang! Just as he stepped out of Baoqing Yu Tang, William Carter was bumped in the chest by a young man. William Carter didn't step back, but the other person leaned in and said in a low voice only William Carter could hear, "Kid, dare to compete with me for Xiao Yan? Go home and wash your neck clean."

William Carter shot him a glance and sneered, saying nothing, then carried his things back to his little courtyard at an unhurried pace.

In the main room of the rear courtyard of Baoqing Yu Tang, a middle-aged man who looked like the manager was respectfully reporting to a veiled woman sitting at the table, "Miss, we've received a batch of items. Several of them bear the Dai family's crest. The most luxurious sword is very similar to the one used by the Dai family's young master, Grace Dawson."

"Similar?" The veiled woman frowned, apparently displeased with such an imprecise description.

"It should be exactly the same," the manager quickly corrected himself, knowing his lady's temperament. "If it weren't for the fact that Grace Dawson is always accompanied by the Dai family's seven iron guards, making it impossible for ordinary people to get close, I would suspect this is the very sword."

"The Dust-Repelling Pearl on the hilt—could there really be two identical ones in the world?" The veiled woman chuckled softly. "Or do you also think that boy is a low-level piece of trash, so the things he brought must be fake?"

The manager's face changed, and cold sweat instantly covered his forehead. That was exactly what he had been thinking—how could a low-level piece of trash bring in something that really belonged to Grace Dawson?

"Send someone to investigate," the veiled woman's cool voice commanded. "Lately, it feels like something is about to happen between the Dai and Song families. Maybe we can find their whereabouts from this sword."

"Yes!" The manager breathed a sigh of relief, agreed, and hurried off to make arrangements, leaving only the veiled young woman and her maid in the room.
