Chapter 2

“Mm.”

Collecting my thoughts, I lay down on the bed, thinking about all the things that had happened over the past two years. Life’s ups and downs left me feeling helpless.

I’d been following The Boss for over a year, but had never met her in person. She said her in-game appearance was altered, and that in reality she was a “dinosaur,” not a beauty.

I didn’t really mind that.

……

The next morning, I got up early, put on some casual clothes, and strolled down the street. Where I lived wasn’t far from the gym—just a ten-minute walk.

Still, I felt a bit nervous. I called The Boss: “The Boss, what do you look like? How will I recognize you?”

A pleasant laugh came from the other end: “Silly boy, just go to the front of the gym. The brightest one there is your The Boss.”

“Mm.”

I hung up and went to the bus stop by the gym, looking around as I waited.

There were seven or eight people at the stop. Not far away, a brand-new black sports car was parked, sleek and beautiful. I didn’t recognize the brand, but it had to be very expensive.

Time passed, but The Boss still hadn’t shown up.

I was getting impatient and pulled out my phone to call again.

At that moment, everyone noticed something: the owner of the luxury sports car was actually a stunningly beautiful woman—bright eyes, perfect teeth, breathtakingly gorgeous, with a faint smile and long hair gently flowing. Her smile was so captivating that almost all the young people at the stop were dumbfounded. No one expected such a beauty to step out of such a nice car.

……

That was the first time I met Grace Bennett. She was beautiful and elegant, like a bolt of lightning splitting through the chaos of my life. In that instant, my mind went blank; everything else faded away, and only her peerless beauty remained, like a holy light cast from the sky, drawing me toward her uncontrollably.

The beauty didn’t care about others’ gazes. She picked up her phone and dialed a number, her rosy lips curving slightly in a hint of displeasure.

“Beep, beep, beep…”

My phone rang, and The Boss’s voice came through: “Ethan Carter, why aren’t you here yet?”

Stunned, I could hardly believe it. Was the The Boss I’d followed for nearly two years really this beautiful woman in front of me? She had obviously lied—she was absolutely a super beauty, the kind that takes your breath away and shocks the world.

“The Boss, I’ve been here for a while…”

A bit embarrassed, I stood in front of her, phone in hand.

The beauty turned to look at me, flashed a charming smile, opened the car door, and said with a laugh, “It’s you? Get in, I’m taking you somewhere today.”

Under everyone’s gaze, I got into the stunning beauty’s car, feeling countless envious, jealous, and hateful stares stabbing into my back like needles.

“The Boss, I didn’t expect you to…”

“What about me?” She turned and laughed, her beautiful eyes full of mischief.

I swallowed and didn’t continue. The neckline of her uniform was low, revealing a breathtaking expanse of snowy white skin and a deep, alluring cleavage that made my head spin.

Pinned next to The Boss’s collar was a delicate work badge. Clearly, she had come over during work hours. The badge had the big company name “GGS,” and below it was The Boss’s name—Grace Bennett! Even more shocking, her title was: Vice President of the Asia Region!

“The Boss, your name is Grace Bennett?” I asked.

“Yeah, not a bad name, right?” She chuckled and started the car. “Ethan Carter, what are your plans for the future? Or, do you have any dreams?”

“Dreams?”

I thought for a moment and smiled. “My dream is to retire to the mountains starting tomorrow, live a happy life, feed horses, chop wood, travel the world. From tomorrow on, I’ll care about grain and vegetables, build a big house, face the sea, and watch the flowers bloom in spring…”

“Pfft!”

Grace Bennett burst out laughing. “You hopeless guy, let your The Boss be your guiding light! Come on, I’ll take you somewhere.”

“Where?”

I sat in the passenger seat, feeling a bit uneasy.

Grace Bennett smiled mysteriously, her elegant brows arching slightly. “A place where dreams come true. Our Gujian Hunmeng guild is setting up a high-level studio, and all the core members will be moving in. You’re the first person I thought of.”

“A studio?”

I felt a bit lost. I’d been alone for so long, and now I was actually going to join a gaming studio?

“The Boss, I want to be alone…” After a long silence, I said, “Actually, Gujian Hunmeng would be the same with or without me…”

Grace Bennett shot me a look, her aura suddenly intense, and scolded, “Cut the crap, if I tell you to come, you come!”

I could only keep quiet. In the two years I’d followed Grace Bennett, everyone knew about her decisiveness. When Grace Bennett made a decision, the rest of us could only obey.

I said nothing more, and Grace Bennett focused on driving, occasionally sneaking glances at me, a smile playing at her lips.

Grace Bennett handed me a card—it was part of my earnings from the past six months. The car sped out of the city, and the traffic on the road grew sparser and sparser.
