"What, blow it up? No, no, that's impossible." The one who spoke up first was not Mr. Harris, nor Grace Bennett, but rather David Scott, the so-called "hostage." He shook his head like a rattle-drum and shouted:
"The weapons allowed on the Night of Slaughter are restricted. Knives and guns can be used, but explosive weapons are absolutely forbidden, or else you'll be punished by the government forces. The security system at my house means that those thugs with ordinary firearms can't break in at all, so my home is the safest place. It's fine if you want to stay at my place for the night, but if you plan to take me out of here, I absolutely won't go!"
At this point, David Scott had already accepted the fact that he was being held hostage. His hope now was that these thugs would hide out in his house for the night and then leave, and he could pretend this never happened. After all, they entered his home before the Night of Slaughter began, which counts as a crime. Now, when David Scott heard that someone among the thugs wanted to take him outside, in his eyes, that was basically a death sentence.
"You heard him. There's no way to use those kinds of explosive weapons here, so stop worrying about it." Mr. Harris bluntly rejected Ryan Carter, and at the same time, reached out and shoved David Scott to the ground.
Mr. Harris's refusal was entirely within Ryan Carter's expectations. Seeing that he was still being rejected, Ryan Carter pointed at David Scott in front of him and said:
"Since we've already used him to activate the security system, he's useless now. May I suggest locking him in the basement? I'll be in charge of guarding him, because I still believe there will be an explosion here tonight."
"You think you're a god, able to see the future? You just told me you used to write novels, but now you sound more like a fortune teller."
Grace Bennett couldn't help but mock Ryan Carter for "talking nonsense" again and again. Whatever relationship she had with him before was now completely forgotten. After all, for her, Grace Bennett, getting a man was easy—who she slept with didn't matter. She was only after that pleasure, and who had the time or qualifications to talk about love in the Lord God's space?
Mr. Harris also seemed both amused and exasperated by Ryan Carter's stubborn seriousness. But since he had already acknowledged him as a member of his team, he couldn't just fall out with him completely. So he nodded and said:
"Fine, you can take him to the basement and lock him up. I want to see where this explosion is supposed to come from. If there really is an explosion, I don't want to be the team leader anymore—you can take over."
Ryan Carter had no interest in being the so-called team leader. He walked straight over to David Scott, grabbed him by the collar, and actually lifted him up. Seeing this, Mr. Harris and Grace Bennett's expressions changed slightly. They had always thought Ryan Carter was a frail intellectual, good at analyzing things but not physically strong. But seeing him lift a medium-built man with one hand, it was clear his physical strength was impressive.
"Where's the basement?" Ryan Carter asked David Scott.
Being grabbed like that, David Scott's clothes tightened around his neck, making it hard to breathe. He could only struggle and say, "It's... it's... behind the kitchen..."
Hearing this, Ryan Carter carried David Scott in that direction. As he passed the kitchen, he deliberately took some food and water from the fridge to bring along. Then he opened the basement door, which wasn't locked and was even slightly ajar, because there were people inside.
Earlier, David Clark had brought David Scott's wife and two children here. Now, David Clark was on top of David Scott's daughter, moving his body relentlessly, while David Scott's wife lay naked to the side, her lower body a mess, clearly just ravaged by David Clark. David Scott's daughter was crying continuously, in obvious pain. However, foreign women are more open; though David Scott's daughter was young, she was no longer a virgin, so physically the rape didn't hurt much—it was more a humiliation of the soul.
"You bastards, you devils!"
Seeing his wife and daughter violated by these thugs, rage surged in David Scott's heart. Before, he had played the coward to avoid angering the thugs and to keep his family safe. But now, faced with this scene, David Scott couldn't hold back anymore. He struggled to break free from Ryan Carter's grip, finally deciding to resist after all his previous submission.
But although Ryan Carter looked thin, he was surprisingly strong. He held David Scott firmly with one hand, and when David Scott struggled too much, he suddenly raised his other fist and punched David Scott hard in the back.
The punch was powerful, landing with a dull thud. David Scott was knocked breathless and instantly went limp. Then Ryan Carter kicked him in the abdomen, sending David Scott flying into a corner of the basement.
"Well, well, didn't expect that—you've got some skills, huh. Tsk tsk."
