“Right, the basement! Let’s go, to the basement—maybe we can still hide there!”
Mr. Harris made a quick decision, rushing out of the study straight toward the basement, with Grace Harris and David Clark following close behind. All three of them wore panicked expressions—the villa was about to be blown sky-high, how could anyone inside not be terrified? However, it seemed that if someone really intended to destroy the place, the basement was actually the only place in the villa where they could possibly hide.
Very soon, Ryan Carter, who was sitting in the basement, heard the sound of someone pounding on the basement door. Then, Mr. Harris’s voice came through:
“Ryan Carter, why did you lock the door from the inside? Open up, hurry, open the door!”
Ryan Carter heard the banging and shouting, but remained unmoved. Instead, he pressed his back more comfortably against the basement wall and lazily said:
“Since you all refused to listen to me and leave the villa earlier, then when the villa is blown up, there’ll have to be a few charred corpses left outside so no one will suspect anything, and they won’t search the basement, right?”
“What? Ryan Carter, what do you mean! Are you looking to die, you bastard? Believe it or not, I’ll kill you myself!” Grace Bennett cursed furiously.
“Ryan Carter, if you don’t open the door, you’re dead meat!” David Clark also began to threaten.
But neither of their threats got any response from Ryan Carter. He continued to sit quietly on the chair inside the basement. Meanwhile, the David Scott family all looked surprised—they had no idea what was happening outside, nor what was going on between this group of thugs.
“Move aside, let me break down the door!” Mr. Harris barked at David Clark and Grace Bennett beside him.
Grace Bennett and David Clark quickly stepped back. They knew how strong Mr. Harris was—maybe he really could break down the door.
Suddenly, Mr. Harris’s arm swelled, growing several times thicker, and a terrifying aura radiated from him. He stepped forward, twisted his waist, and slammed his fist hard into the basement door.
“Bang!”
The basement door shook violently with a loud crash. Even Ryan Carter, sitting inside, could no longer remain calm. Seeing the door now deeply dented, he showed a shocked expression:
“So this is the power granted by the Lord God? Incredible.”
Seeing how effective Mr. Harris’s punch was, David Clark and Grace Bennett both looked excited, thinking a few more punches might really break open the basement door. They didn’t dare face hundreds of armed thugs outside—without the ability to protect themselves, they’d be riddled with bullets in an instant. Right now, this basement had become their only hope!
But the members of the Slaughter Corps outside didn’t give Mr. Harris any more time to punch. At the command of Father Martin, the explosives set outside the villa were detonated all at once.
“Boom!”
The entire villa collapsed in an instant!
Chapter 6 Entering the Lord God’s Space
A deafening roar sounded. Inside the villa’s basement, Ryan Carter felt the world spinning around him. The ground shook violently, the walls began to crack, the ceiling started to cave in, and Ryan Carter couldn’t keep his balance—he fell to the floor. Chunks of broken concrete began to fall from above, and Ryan Carter could only crawl into a corner, curl up, and cover his head, doing his best to protect himself.
Soon, everything quieted down. Since the basement lights were connected to a backup power supply, most of the lights remained on except for a few that shattered during the tremors, ensuring visibility in the basement.
Ryan Carter had suffered some wounds just now, and his whole body was covered in a layer of cement dust, looking extremely disheveled. But at this moment, appearance was the least of his concerns—staying alive was all that mattered.
The David Scott family huddled together as well, covered in dust and bits of concrete, but fortunately none of them were seriously hurt—a few minor injuries weren’t life-threatening.
Ryan Carter found the food he’d brought from the kitchen earlier, tossed some over to the David Scott family, then sat alone on the other side of the basement, gun in one hand, eating with the other.
About half an hour later, Ryan Carter still hadn’t heard any sounds of people digging for the basement outside, so he finally relaxed a little, lowering the hand holding the gun. He spoke softly to David Scott across from him:
“Don’t worry. Once the Night of Slaughter is over, I’ll leave. I’ll make sure you’re all safe.”
David Scott seemed to have been frightened by the recent explosion as well. He just numbly nodded at Ryan Carter’s words. At this point, waiting quietly for the Night of Slaughter to end was undoubtedly the safest plan, and he had no other options.
This was Ryan Carter’s first mission world after entering the Lord God’s Space. Yet, for most of the time, Ryan Carter just sat in a basement, holding a pistol, facing the trembling David Scott family.
